With numerous films and TV series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s a daunting proposition for a newcomer to even think about getting caught up on the various characters and storylines.
But Shawn Levy, who directed the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, says there will be no “homework” required to enjoy his film.
“I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies,” Levy told the Associated Press.
He added that his goal was to make the already established fans happy but also create a movie that anyone can enjoy.
“I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world,” he said. “But I didn’t want to presume that.

The superhero genre has traditionally been family-oriented. Often light-hearted and ending with a moral message, PG-13 is what most of these films aim for. However, every now and then there comes an R-rated superhero flick that completely blows off adult minds, forcing them to be hyped like kids again. And the Deadpool series did just that.
A still from Logan
However, Deadpool wasn’t the first R-rated superhero movie, and it certainly won’t be the last. Most of the time, R-rated movies earn much less than their PG counterparts, and just like Deadpool, that rule is occasionally broken. As in the case of Logan, which successfully clawed through its family-friendly genre to present a bloody masterpiece.

Hugh Jackman knew Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds would hit it off when they met.
In a conversation with People at CinemaCon, the director revealed that Jackman predicted Levy and Reynolds would be friends years before the duo actually sat down together for the first time.
The Deadpool & Wolverine helmer shared that he and the Logan star initially talked about Reynolds on the set of Levy’s 2011 movie, Real Steel, which starred Jackman. “Hugh said, ‘For what it’s worth, if you ever meet and work with Ryan Reynolds, you’re never going to stop,'” he recalled, adding with a smile, “That was 2010. Hugh Jackman, the prophet — a little-known special talent.”
Levy opened up about meeting The Adam Project star for the first time, explaining they had originally connected about a film they didn’t end up making, and their connection was almost immediate.

Marvel Studios currently has several movies in development, with one of the most notable being ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on early comments from viewers, it’s expected to rejuvenate faith in the MCU among fans.
Reportedly, this movie was chosen as the sole release for 2024 following disappointing performances of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’
According to Daniel Richtman, a well-known source, director Shawn Levy has impressed MCU executives, leading to expectations of more projects for him in the future.
Shawn Levy began his career directing television and gained fame in the 2000s with comedies like ‘Big Fat Liar’ and ‘Just Married.’ He went on to helm successful franchises such as ‘Cheaper by the Dozen,’ ‘The Pink Panther,’ and ‘Night at the Museum.’ In the early 2010s, Levy directed ‘Date Night’ and ‘Real Steel,’ alongside developing TV pilots and producing ‘Last Man Standing.’

Marvel Studios has quite a few movies currently in development or rumored to be currently in development and one of the most notable ones is certainly ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on the comments so far from the people who have seen parts of the movie, it’s going to be an McU-saver and restore the faith of the fans in the franchise as a whole.
Reportedly, that was the reason why it was selected to be the only movie to release in 2024 following the abysmal results of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ movies that barely scraped by when it comes to the box office.
Now according to Daniel Richtman, notable scooper and leaker, the movie’s director Shawn Levy impressed the execs of MCU and we can expect him to get more projects down the line.

“Barbie” is a cultural phenomenon, grossing nearly $1.5 billion and racking up eight Oscar nominations, all while launching scores of catchphrases and memes.
So it’s understandable that Mattel, the company behind the iconic doll, is looking to capitalize on its cinematic success by developing dozens of movies based on its games and toys. Moviegoers can look forward to Barney, Bob the Builder and He-Man hitting the big screen in the not-so-distant future.
But as Hollywood raids toy store shelves to feed its insatiable hunger for IP, it’s worth noting that when it comes to this type of film, for every “Barbie”-sized smash there’s a “Battleship”-like bomb. With that in mind, here are some of the movies that Mattel has in the works.

Before he became Ryan Reynolds' director of choice in decent but forgettable big-budget action comedies, Shawn Levy was known for family movies, as well as that brief moment when he made one of the best live-action anime movies (not based on any actual anime) ever — "Real Steel." The 2011 movie belongs to a category of 2010s genre releases that performed well enough to not be considered a failure, but not so well that it spawned a franchise. And to think it all started with a phone charger.
The film stars Hugh Jackman as a washed-up boxer in a world where human fighters have been replaced by 2000-pound, eight-foot-tall robots — essentially "Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots: The Movie." The film features stunning action, with actual animatronic robots used in the film, combined with motion capture to give the film a grounded look that's rare in big-budget movies today. Shawn Levy's 2011 sci-fi film "Real Steel" takes place in the near future of 2020 when boxing and Mma have been banned, having been replaced by high-octane robot fights. Robot "trainers" buy up powerful, tank-like fighting bots, program their unique fighting moves prior to a match, and then pit them against each other in outsize, heavily sponsored arenas. The robot to remain un-smashed is declared the victor. Hugh Jackman plays a former boxer turned robot trainer who aims to purchase a high-profile robot called Noisy Boy and relive his glory days, but his attempts fail. Instead, he begins seeing potential in a battered, unassuming, out-of-date sparring robot named Atom salvaged from a dump. The robots in "Real Steel" aren't alive, but Levy does throw in a handful of shots implying that Atom may be ... feeling something.
"Real Steel" wasn't talked about a lot upon its release, and only opened to $27 million domestically.

Between 1959 and 1964, there wasn't a more consistently brilliant show on television than Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone" — an accomplishment that's all the more amazing given its anthology concept. Every episode offered a completely new story, often in a completely different genre, from an occasionally different writer. Sure, the rotating staff was a murderer's row of scribes that included Serling, Richard Matheson, and Charles Beaumont, but, good as they were, they didn't have the safety net of writing for the same characters every time out. All they had was their imagination.
Considering Hollywood's risk-averse nature, it's a little surprising that more "Twilight Zone" episodes haven't been turned into full-blown features — at least, not as official remakes. Obviously, "Poltergeist" owes a massive creative debt to "Little Girl Lost" and it's hard to imagine "Child's Play" without the arsenic-laced genius of "Living Doll," but for straight-up adaptations there's Richard Kelly's "The Box...

Deadpool 2 started off by making the mistake of killing Deadpool / Wade Wilson’s girlfriend Vanessa, played by Morena Baccarin – then it, thankfully, used time travel shenanigans to erase that mistake by the end of the film. So Baccarin is reprising the role for the upcoming sequel Deadpool 3, which is still in production. While speaking to Screen Rant, Baccarin revealed that her work on Deadpool 3 is finished… and that the film keeps things fresh by reinventing Wade and Vanessa’s relationship.
Baccarin said, “I think it’s really cool that they are such well-met characters and that their lives… You can see them in and out of each other’s lives constantly. The comic, it’s the same way. After directing three “Night at the Museum” movies, Shawn Levy didn’t want to be confined to directing family comedies for the rest of his career. If you’re doing something successfully, he told IndieWire, it’s easy to be “pigeonholed” by Hollywood into that one thing.
But he’s been far from limited under the banner of his own production company, 21 Laps. Levy and his company have been prolific hit-makers since it launched in 2006, and he has produced and directed everything from indie darlings (“The Spectacular Now”), ambitious Best Picture nominees (“Arrival”), studio blockbuster satires (“Free Guy“), prestige limited series (“All the Light We Cannot See”), Stephen King horror movies (“The Boogeyman”), and the biggest Netflix show ever (“Stranger Things”), all of which depart from the family-friendly event movies on which he cut his teeth.
“You need to refuse to be limited by everyone else’s assumptions,” Levy told IndieWire during a recent interview.

Warner Bros. is building its own galaxy that is far, far away.

Adapted from a short story and an old Twilight Zone episode, Real Steel starred Hugh Jackman as an ex-boxer who becomes a trainer after human boxers were replaced by robots. The film became a surprise hit in 2011, and there are still rumblings about a potential sequel — either as a new movie or as a streaming series — to this day. To give the film a greater sense of realism, Jackman trained with a real-life boxing champion, Sugar Ray Leonard, to work on his own moves in the ring. At the time of the film’s release, Jackman talked to us about what a thrill it was to work so closely with one of his athletic heroes. If "Rocky" is for Boomers and Gen-Xers and "Creed" is for Millennials, then what is the boxing film of choice for Generation Z? One could argue it's "Real Steel." Yes, really.
Released in 2011, the Hugh Jackman-led sci-fi film is loosely based on "Steel," a short story written by Richard Matheson in the 1950s and one that was previously adapted into an episode of "The Twilight Zone" in 1963. Yet, the film itself was very much meant for families -- including then kiddie-aged Gen-Zers -- when it opened in theaters. It would proceed to top the charts on Netflix almost a decade later when the world was on lockdown in 2020, at which point it became apparent just how much of a lasting imprint Jackman's surprisingly heartfelt boxing robots flick had left on the public's consciousness.

Prolific producer and director Shawn Levy fell in love with “All the Light We Cannot See” long before he was attached to adapt the 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Anthony Doerr into a new Netflix limited series, out Thursday, November 2. “I did not read it as a filmmaker. I read it as a reader,” he said to IndieWire over Zoom. “By the time I got back from whatever holiday I was on where I read that book, the rights were already unavailable, having been snatched up by Scott Rudin and Fox Searchlight.”
The story of a blind French teenager Marie-Laure and German soldier Werner connecting via radio, providing each other salvation under the devastation of WWII, caught Levy right as he’d made the deliberate decision to take a step back from directing films, and focus on producing. “I had, at that point, directed maybe like nine movies in 11 or 12 years.

“Deadpool 3” and “Stranger Things” director Shawn Levy is showering praise on this weekend’s box office ruler, Taylor Swift, calling her a “generational voice and creative force” and likening her directorial vision to that of Steven Spielberg.
Swift, whose cinematic rendering of the blockbuster Eras Tour is poised to rake in north of $100 million this weekend, directed Levy as an actor in her 2021 short film, “All Too Well,” which also starred Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien. The pop star has set her feature directorial debut project with Searchlight Pictures.

It’s profoundly vivid and she has the strength of her convictions,” Levy said told Entertainment Weekly. “Spielberg was on the set of a movie he produced that I directed,...

Taylor Swift Is A “Generational Voice” And A Visionary Director, Says ‘Deadpool 3’ Helmer Shawn Levy
Director Shawn Levy likes what he sees in Taylor Swift’s directorial vision. So much so, he’s comparing her to film industry titan Steven Spielberg.
Levy, whose Deadpool 3 is the next line on his resume, said in an EW interview that Swift is ready to direct her first feature film. Searchlight Pictures previously announced last year that Swift would direct her first feature-length movie from a screenplay she wrote herself.
Before that, she received two MTV VMAs prizes for Best Director — one for All Too Well: The Short Film, and another for her The Man music video.
“Taylor has not consulted me about upcoming directing projects, but I think she has the makings of a hell of a director,” Levy said. He previously worked with Swift on the short film and briefly appeared in it.
Levy called Swift a “generational voice and creative force” in the industry.
“That list is short.

The Toronto International Film Festival will honor one of Canada’s own, Montreal native Shawn Levy, with the inaugural Norman Jewison Award, also named after another Canadian great filmmaker.
The Norman Jewison Career Achievement Award is presented by The Budman Family, and recognizes Canadians in the film industry who have made a global impact with their careers. The awards presentation will take place at the TIFF Tribute Awards gala fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
Levy originally set about pursuing a career in acting, attending Yale University. He turned to directing and received an Mfa from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1994. Hulu continues its implicit understanding that streaming services are basically true crime distribution machines this month with a trio of intriguing titles. While it’s not necessarily true crime per se, The Ashley Madison Affair about the notorious dating platform premieres on July 7. Real Steel was released well over a decade at this point, but fans of the sci-fi boxing movie are still campaigning for a sequel. One of those fans is Anthony Mackie, who actually starred alongside Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly in the 2011 movie.
During an interview with Inverse, Anthony Mackie mentioned that he actually calls Real Steel director Shawn Levy once or twice a year to push for a sequel. That’s commitment. “It was supposed to be a trilogy,” Mackie said. “It was supposed to be three or four movies together.“
Real Steel starred Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when robots took over the ring. When he hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goto) to build and train a championship contender. Anthony Mackie played Finn, a friend of Charlie’s who owns an underground robot boxing arena.

Vampires are taking a wacky bite out of summer. In Season 5 of FX and Hulu’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) looks for a vampire who can give him the transformation that Nandor the Relentless has kept from him. But it may not go as planned. The beloved comedy, which takes a mockumentary look at four vampires living in Staten Island, returns on July 14.
Check out the Season 5 trailer of “What We Do In the Shadows”:
Another highly anticipated return coming to Hulu in July is the latest season of long-running animated series “Futurama.” The show’s first four seasons aired on Fox from 1999 to 2003, it was then picked up by Comedy Central for three seasons from 2008 to 2013. Now, nearly a decade later, the Mike Judge-created series will return for the first half of the 20-episode Season 8 on July 24 with the original voice cast.

There are two gimmicks at work in the two "Deadpool" movies, released in 2016 and 2018 respectively. The first is that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) seems to recognize that he's in a superhero movie, and makes numerous metatextual gags about the shortcomings of the genre. In "Deadpool 2," the character comments that, if his plan goes well, the movie itself won't require a third act. He also goes back in time to the events of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and kills an alternate-timeline version of himself, fulfilling the bloodlust of fans who hated that version of the character.
The other gimmick is Reynolds himself, a wry, fast-talking comedic actor who delivers flip dialogue and irreverent humor better than anyone. Reynolds also seemed to oversee the films' ad campaigns, and he would appear in character, talking about how he, Deadpool, was now a movie star. All this while his face was completely covered by a superhero mask.

Exclusive: Kevin Durand (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is the newest addition to the cast of the as-yet-untitled monster thriller that Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett are directing for Universal.
The actor joins an ensemble which also includes Melissa Barrera, Alisha Weir and Dan Stevens, as previously announced.
In the vein of Universal’s recent films like The Invisible Man and Renfield, the Radio Silence thriller will provide a unique take on legendary monster lore, representing a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters. Universal monster films are rooted in the horror genre, with no restrictions on budget, rating or genre — and they are not part of a shared interconnected universe, which allows each to stand on its own. This new direction is filmmaker-driven, inviting innovative filmmakers with original, bold ideas for these characters to develop the stories and pitch them.

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" first hit the airwaves in 1993, and even though that original iteration of Rangers didn't last all that long, the series has remained remarkably enduring. 30 years later, the series has aired nearly 1,000 episodes through its various iterations, has inspired hundreds of issues of comics books, millions in toy sales, and is truly a globally recognized brand with huge staying power. Still, the franchise has never managed to fully crack the code in making the jump to movies.
Two films, the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie in 1995 and "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie," did fine enough by '90s "kids movies based on a show" standards, which were ultimately more about selling toys and copies of the films on VHS.

Matthew Macfadyen is going from one dysfunctional family to another, with the Succession star in talks to join Ryan Reynolds in the third Deadpool movie.
The film stars Reynolds as Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and The Crown‘s Emma Corrin in a villain role. Macfadyen’s role is unknown, but the feature was searching for a character described as being a third wheel to Deadpool and Wolverine.
Macfadyen has been celebrated for his work as the scheming, obsequious Tom in Succession, which had the premiere of its fourth and final season on Sunday. He won a supporting actor Emmy last year and was nominated for an Emmy in 2020. Deadline first reported the news of his casting.
Bobs Burgers‘ Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin previously wrote a previous draft of the script, with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick coming in later to write on the project.

"Molli and Max in the Future" is an out-of-this-world adorable romantic comedy that transforms the lowest lo-fi means into charms with a tractor-beam pull. Writer and director Michael Lukk Litwak shoots against a modular LED volume to create a cosmic universe where dating is still Earth-grade awkward. Props remind of resourceful high school theater productions of "Tron" while animation aims for "Blade Runner" or "Real Steel" except no more expensive than catering costs — which is never an issue because Litwak's vision explodes like a starburst of relationship charms. "Molli and Max in the Future" is the textbook definition of an indie darling that executes well above its obvious production restraints, as unique and boundlessly ingenious a film you'll find in today's media landscape.

It’s hard to argue that Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds has finally hit his stride as an action star with a string of genre pics that audiences have reacted rather well to with the “Deadpool” movies, “Free Guy,” and “The Adam Project.” Those last two movies saw him work with filmmaker Shawn Levy as the pair are getting ready to begin shooting “Deadpool 3” this spring in London with Hugh Jackman reprising the beloved Wolverine role one more time.

The earliest known stories to feature doppelgängers -- a German word that literally means "double walkers" -- first appeared in print in Jean Paul's 1787 novel commonly known as "Siebenkäs." The novel was a satire about a bourgeois man who was advised by his own duplicate to fake his own death and remarry under a new identity. The idea of doppelgängers, of course, was incredibly tantalizing to writers of fiction, and mysterious doubles have appeared throughout fiction ever since. What would you say to yourself, if you met a new version of yourself with their own agency? The philosophical implications are fraught.
In modern sci-fi parlance, doppelgängers have become common, usually thanks to advanced technology like cloning, time travel, or rifts leading into parallel universes. In comic book cinema, "the multiverse" recently became a buzzword, and already Loki, Spider-Man, Kang the Conqueror, and Doctor Strange have met their own doppelgängers...

A TV series adaptation of John Wyndham’s sci-fi classic The Day Of the Triffids has been put into fast-track development by Amazon Studios. According to sources, Johan Renick, Emmy winner for HBO’s Chernobyl, is attached to direct and executive produce. Don Murphy and Susan Montford executive produce for Angry Films.
With its post-apocalyptic setting and plot, Wyndham’s 1951 novel draws parallels to HBO’s breakout hit The Last Of Us. In The Day Of the Triffids, after most people in the world are blinded by a meteor shower, triffids — tall venomous, carnivorous plants — start killing the rest. The story centers on Bill Masen, a biologist who specializes in triffids. He leads survivors in their fight against the killer plants and at some point rescues a young sighted girls and travels with her for several days.
The English book has had three UK radio adaptations and a 1962 feature starring Howard Keel.

Somewhere out there in the multiverse of every possible Marvel movie ever, Evangeline Lilly is flying around as an X-Woman rather than the Wasp. It could have happened in our world, but even with Hugh Jackman — Wolverine himself — extending Lilly an offer to join the X-Men, she turned it down, according to the actress herself in a new interview.
In the past, Lilly has spoken about how she was uncomfortable being thrust into the spotlight with her first movie or TV speaking role as Kate on ABC's "Lost." In 2018, while promoting "Ant-Man and the Wasp," Lilly told The Hollywood Reporter, "I ended up deciding to retire after I finished 'Lost.' Evangeline Lilly was quite literally lost on set for her breakout role in “Lost.”
The “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” actress revealed that she found early seasons of the hit J.J. Abrams series “cringe” due to her “bad” acting.
“We would have ‘Lost’ parties where the cast would get together to watch the show, and when it would be a Kate-centric episode, I would want to curl in a hole and die because I knew I was bad,” Lilly said during the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. “And I still to this day will stand by the fact that I can watch the first couple seasons and I cringe because I’m not very good.”

Evangeline Lilly revealed that Hugh Jackman tried to persuade her to join an X-Men movie while the pair were filming Real Steel (2011) – Shawn Levy’s sci-fi about robot boxing.
Lilly later joined the Ant-Man franchise as Hope van Dyne (Aka Wasp) and reprises her role in the series’ third instalment Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, out 17 February.
Lilly recalled the anecdote while promoting the movie on Josh Horowitz’s popular Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“[Jackman] was like, ‘Hey, so, the X-Men guys are asking me if I would approach you because they know that you won’t talk to anybody, and won’t do anything, and you’re not reading scripts, and no one can reach you,” she said.
“‘They knew I was working with you and were interested to know if it would ever interest you to do an X-Men thing.’

Even the charms of Hugh Jackman were not enough to convince Evangeline Lilly to become an X-Man. Doing the promotional rounds for her new film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Lilly revealed she once turned down Jackman’s pitch to have her join an X-Men film.

Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has finally addressed speculation that he used steroids to transform into Wolverine.
Shutting down the rumours once and for all, the 54-year-old hunk said that he’s not interested in taking the performance enhancing drug after learning of the possible side effects, reports aceshowbiz.com.
In an interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace for his series ‘Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?’, the host mentioned fans’ questions: “Over the years people have wondered, did he juice? Did he take steroids?” He also remarked: “You got so jacked for these movies.”
Jackman, seemingly amused, laughed at the question before denying it, “No”.
He explained why steroids were not an appealing option: “I love my job, and I love Wolverine – I got to be careful what I say here, but, I had been told, anecdotally, what the side effects are of that, and I was like, ‘I don’t love it that much.

If January sets the tone for any streamer’s year then 2023 is certainly going to be the Year of True Crime on Hulu. That’s right, Hulu’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlight by several new true crime docuseries (and one charmingly goofy animated hero).
The true crime docuseries fest gets started with Death in the Dorms on Jan. 5. That will be followed by How I Caught My Killer on Jan. 12, and Web of Death on Jan. 19. The first is a six-episode series that will follow the real life case of murders at UCLA, while the latter two will both present several different stories.
It’s not just all true crime in January for Hulu. Jan. 9 sees the arrival of Koala Man, an animated series that envisions an Australian crime fighter of the same name. Also premiering is season 2 of How I Met Your Mather (Jan. 24) and superhero drama Extraordinary (Jan.

Shawn Levy is a busy man. As a director, his credits stretch back to the 1990s and include everything from family friendly movies like "Big Fat Liar" and "Night at the Museum" to less family friendly movies like "This Is Where I Leave You" and, uh, that's pretty much it, actually. From "Real Steel" to "Date Night" and "The Adam Project," most of Levy's filmography is considered pretty safe, if not deeply snarky, viewing for the whole family. Well, for everyone 13 and up, at least. It's a lucrative cinematic window that statistically ticks the most boxes but it can also be incredibly limiting for certain stories ... and Levy knows this all too well.
While Levy has yet to direct anything near as hard R-rated as the first two "Deadpool" movies (even the R-rated "This Is Where I Leave You" is pretty tame compared to a Ryan Reynolds superhero franchise...

While Shawn Levy has his hands full with Stranger Things and Deadpool 3, and recently, he’s been working with Lucasfilm to helm a Star Wars film, another project from the director that’s gotten a lot of positive attention is last year’s Ryan Reynold’s video game-themed movie, Free Guy. And while not nearly as prolific as the other properties on his plate, the director is still given inquiries as to the state of the sequel.
According to Collider, Levy has explained that he’s not ready to rush out a sequel that’s not ready.
It’s still in development. I don’t know if it’s in the cards, but it is very much still in development. It’s something that Disney and Fox want badly. I really try to not make sequels that don’t deserve to be. And it’s why I didn’t...

Last we heard, a "Real Steel" television series was in development, bringing the story of prizefighting mecha bots to streaming giant Disney+. Based on Richard Matheson's 1956 short story and Shawn Levy's feature-length 2011 adaptation, the sci-fi series welcomes Levy as executive producer under his 21 Laps entertainment label, and Levy reports that the project is progressing smoothly.
Levy's 2011 "Real Steel" film observes a near-future world where human-controlled robots go toe-to-toe in professional boxing matches. Has-been prizefighter Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) tag-teams with his estranged son (Dakota Goyo) to rebuild a scrappy dilapidated sparring bot into the people's champion. It's a story about pining for the glory days and of undefeatable human resilience, and it will have you shadowboxing to Eminem's "Till I Collapse." /Film's Ethan Anderton sums up the underdog tale as "'Rocky' meets 'The Iron Giant' with a big beating Amblin heart," the kind of sports comedy...

It’s last call for a number of noteworthy movies leaving HBO Max in December. If you remember “Project Popcorn” – the strategy that saw all 2021 Warner Bros. movies stream on HBO Max the same day they hit theaters – then “Mortal Kombat” and “Those Who Wish Me Dead” will sound familiar. The martial arts reboot and Taylor Sheridan thriller, respectively, will be leaving the streaming service this month.
It’s also final call for Martin Scorsese’s “Bringing Out the Dead,” the extended version of Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor” and Edgar Wright’s terrific sci-fi action-comedy “The World’s End” if auteurs are your thing. “Planet Earth” and “Planet Earth II” are also leaving the streaming service soon.
Here’s the full list of what’s leaving HBO Max in December 2022.
