Univision talks up 6 novelas, variety show
NEW YORK -- Spanish-language media giant Univision Communications held its glitzy upfront presentation for advertisers Wednesday in Manhattan, announcing six new novelas and a late-night variety show with a live audience. Ay Que Noche! will be a one-hour late-night show with stage acts and celebrity interviews airing midnight Monday-Friday. Univision described the variety show as an "intercontinental talk show" attracting a young, affluent audience. The six novelas will include such shows as Barrera de Amor, a drama set in the world of love and bull fighting; Contra Viento y Marea, about a woman forced to choose between two brothers; and La Esposa Virgen, the story of a woman forced into marrying an older, rich man against her will. Spanish-language cable network Galavision highlighted five new original programs, including newsmagazine En Profundidad, focusing on the biggest social issues facing Hispanics. Three other shows are where "fantasy meets reality," Galavision said. El Rastro del Crimen will be a forensics show, Pulso TV will relive the week's biggest moments on Spanish-language TV, and La Lista will follow a celebrity-driven, gossip format.
