The newly formed Overlook Film Festival has announced it inaugural year programming lineup, including 37 films (20 features and 17 short films from 16 countries), along with a bevy of location-appropriate genre-themed parties, interactive events, and live experiences. This year, the festival will also fete director Roger Corman with their Master of Horror Award. The award “was established to honor a living legend who has contributed lasting innovations to the genre throughout a long career, inspiring new filmmakers for years to come.”
The fest is styled a 4-day celebration of horror that runs from April 24 – 30 at the historic Timberline Lodge located in Mt. Hood, Oregon, featured in Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” as the location of the infamous Overlook Hotel. The new festival comes from some of the same minds behind the now-defunct Stanley Film Festival, a similar horror-themed gathering based in a hotel in Estes Park, Colorado that inspired Stephen King to write his 1977 “Shining” novel.

Criminal minds lurk and work beyond the borders of the United States — ergo, the title and concept of the Criminal Minds spinoff premiering Wednesday at 10/9c.

In CBS’ Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Gary Sinise (CSI: NY) stars as Jack Garrett, the head of the (admittedly fictional-ish) FBI International Response Unit, which races to the rescue of U.S. citizens done (very) wrong on foreign soil. Who doesn't love a good fan theory? Sometimes it's not enough to take movies at face value. Sometimes you have to read between the lines, employ a little out-of-the-box thinking and make connections between characters or events that no one ever expected. A lot of fan theories sound like utter nonsense, but sometimes they make so much sense you find yourself wishing they were true.
Between the various movies, TV shows, comics, novels and other media, the "Star Wars" franchise has attracted its fair share of fan theories over the years. As we wait these last few weeks for "The Force Awakens," we've selected seven Star Wars fan theories that are so convincing we can't help but wonder if they might be true.
1. Qui-Gon Jinn Is a Secret Sith

Start with the title: Clown Car! may sound like the movie someone will inevitably make about the 2016 presidential campaign, but how about evoking those great Seventies wacky-journey films like Death Race 2000, Vanishing Point or Smokey and the Bandit?
When I raised the question on Twitter, suggestions included All the President's Wanna-Bes, Every Which Way But Left, Cannonball Rug, A Kochwork Orange and the subtly appropriate Hair.
All excellent ideas, and we may have to put the movie name to a separate vote. Right now, though, the more pressing question is...

It’s been a little while since we heard any updates on Nero‘s new album. Roughly four years after releasing their debut album, Welcome Reality, the trio revealed that they were working on Between II Worlds earlier in the year – and the latest track to trickle out from the effort, “Two Minds,” has just received its own futuristic music video.
Taking place in some sort of alternate future in which storefronts are still lined with box-and-dial televisions, the video depicts the perils of a humanoid being that appears to be made out of static white noise. In between being pursued by trenchcoat-wearing thugs with futuristic weapons, the being manages to find a spark with a handsome, young love interest as Alana Watson’s visage sings on animated billboards around the surrounding cityscape.

House heads rejoice! Berlin house favorite Claptone has announced his highly anticipated debut album, Charmer, releasing one of its singles a couple months early. The man behind the golden mask has served up “Puppet Theatre,” offering a taste of the soul-tinged house that’s become synonymous with his eccentric stage persona.
The track begins with a dissonant piano melody before the delicate harmonies of vocalists Peter, Bjorn and John kick in, setting a dark ambience. Between contemplative lyrics, rich instrumental samples and minimal synth work, the single maintains a promising degree of crossover potential without being a complete bastardization of proper house music.
What’s more, it makes for a perfect means of promoting Claptone’s first album. With its official release slated for October 16th, Charmer will feature a much broader range of collaborators such as Nathan Nicholson of The Boxer Rebellion, Jimi Tenor, Young Galaxy, Jay-Jay Johanson and...

Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 8, “The Great Red Dragon”
Written by Nick Antosca and Steve Lightfoot & Bryan Fuller
Directed by Neil Marshall
Airs Saturdays at 10pm (Et) on NBC
The first half of Hannibal season three has drawn criticism from some (though not this critic) for its artistic, avant-garde approach to exploring the psychology and relationship between Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham. With “The Great Red Dragon”, the series opens a new chapter, returning to its stylistic roots and introducing a new key figure: Francis Dolarhyde. Fans of Thomas Harris’ work have been eagerly anticipating Dolarhyde’s debut and the start of the show’s Red Dragon arc/adaptation, and after this episode, it’s easy to see why. Being unfamiliar with Hannibal’s source material, this critic can’t speak to the faithfulness of showrunner Bryan Fuller and co.’s take on the character, but the glimpses shown here are certainly compelling.

A review of tonight's "Hannibal" coming up just as soon as I freebase my alibi... In their first major scene together in season 2, Will tells Hannibal, "You and I have begun to blur." This is an understatement, or perhaps just a reflection on an episode where everything — identity, sexuality, morality, and more — is a blur, both emotionally and visually. Bedelia's plan to escape prosecution is to present herself as another of Dr. Lecter's victims, so chemically and psychologically altered that she's come to believe she really is Mrs. Fell. Her scenes are hazy, her movements languid, her speech affected, yet it is clear to Jack, Will, and even the crooked Florence detective that she knows who and what she really is. (When Chiyoh, a character with no power to arrest or prosecute her, turns up, Bedelia has no problem identifying herself as Hannibal's psychiatrist. Gillian Anderson is so sharp...

It’s always a good day when Nero‘s got new material, and seeing as how they’ve got a new album coming up, the days have been good indeed. The UK trio turned heads with the announcement of their sophomore album, Between II Worlds, and the tracks they’ve released since have done well to stoke their eager fanbase. In case the buzz was starting to die down, they’ve rolled out another quality piece of music in the form of “Two Minds.”
This latest taste of Nero’s updated sound exhibits a twinge of future house – not enough to garner the staunch disapproval some critics have given it, but enough to keep it relevant amid the current house music resurgence. As always, Alana Watson’s crisp vocals accompany the contemplative progressions.

It looks like we’ve got more new Nero on our hands!
The UK trio has released “Dark Skies,” another track from their upcoming album Between II Worlds. Due out August 28th, the album will be their first full-length effort in roughly four years and they’ve already been letting tracks from it trickle out.
“Dark Skies” deviates slightly from what we’ve already heard from the group. The powerful, trance-y synths similar to other Between II Worlds tracks have remained, but a short vocal sample contributed by Alana Watson replaces the longer verses in the others. A brief, melodic breakdown with samples of police sirens breaks up the somewhat repetitive flow of the rest of the track before a final buildup takes the listener home.
The song definitely matches the sound of the other tracks we’ve heard from Between II Worlds so far, but what’s come before has been stronger.

Hannibal Season 2, Episode 11: “Ko No Mono”

Airs Fridays at 10pm Et on NBC
Well surprise, surprise…but not really.
I would hasten a guess that very few of us who populate Hannibal‘s savvy audience would have fallen for this trick, laid out as it was so very carefully throughout the narrative. In any case, now the jig is up: Alana is in on the play, Freddie Lounds is indeed alive, and Jack Crawford is taking more gambits than I can count. But let’s start from the top, shall we…
The episode opens with yet another misleading sequence, although exactly how misleading the gorgeously shot Will-digo transformation/birth scene really is remains to be seen—after all, we still don’t know with any certainty who arranged the Randall exhibit, or whose body was sent...

In the history of Doctor Who there are many names in the end credits that always seem to stand out. For some reason, I always look out for Alec Wheal in Eighties Who credits or, since 2005, the Script Editor. Over the years there have been hundreds of unsung contributors behind the scenes, and this article seeks to celebrate a handful of those who put in one helluva slog for our benefit.
Oh, and in researching this article I discovered that Dorka Nieradzik – who worked on Logopolis, Revelation of the Daleks and Silver Nemesis to name but a few – now appears to be Clive Owen's personal Hair and Make Up Artist.

In Will’s latest nightmare, he is walking through the woods and finds a bloody tree. Someone - or something - is there. He wakes to discover his dogs whimpering, and discovers his feet are muddy. He stumbles into the kitchen for water and some pills. His vision becomes jittery and he vomits into the sink. That is when he sees a human ear settled next to the drain.
Will waits on the porch, in the cold, like a lost child, until Hannibal shows up. He relates to Hannibal what happened in Minnesota with Abigail - or at least, what he can remember happened. "Entree" reveals Lecter’s true colors tonight (not that there’s any doubt), and, rather amazingly, Lecter is at times a man who sympathizes with others.
Lecter’s ability to feel empathy is the greatest strength and asset he has in maintaining the status quo. He can continue to do whatever he wants so long as he can continue keeping the mask of his persona on, and project this stability that is always missing from Will’s profiles or Alana’s summaries.
Seeing Lecter finally snap as Miriam found his trail is completely necessary, and makes for some wonderful television. Up until now there’s been glimpses or hints to Lecter’s natural tendencies, but nothing that is truly showing the depraved man he is. We needed a reminder of the man he really is, and a wake up call that Lecter’s mask is just that – a mask – he...

Between being played by Bobby Moynihan wearing a prosthetic double chin on SNL and everyone throwing up on the Internet over her now infamous sketti recipe, you would think Mama is the most horrifying matriarch since Mommy Dearest. Or Psycho. But despite the fact that she farts almost nonstop on TV, every interview with Alana Thompson‘s (a.k.a. The Spice Girls first hit the music scene in 1994 and iconized the Union Jack dress, platform shoes and "Girl Power," but 12 years after unofficially breaking up, the British girl group reunited to perform at the Olympic closing ceremony in London. And Mel "Scary Spice" Brown says the reunion brought back that "girl-power feeling."
"We didn't realize it was such a big, you know, worst-kept rumor," the Spice Girl told MTV News on Tuesday. "And now that we've known that we all kind of find it funny. And, at the same time feel kind of very lucky and happy that people were so excited about it."
The Girls had not been together on stage since a reunion tour in 2007. Since then, each has gone her separate way. Victoria Beckham, most notably, is a blossoming fashion star and wife of Los Angeles Galaxy heartthrob David Beckham.

Do you remember those old sticker albums that you used to have when you were a kid? There you are, stuck plonk in the middle of a 1983 school playground, clutching a tattered copy of the Return Of The Jedi sticker album, wondering how to fill in those missing gaps. They're frustrating things, those sticker albums – what would happen would be that you would spend your hard-earned pocket money on packs of stickers, only to find that tucked away inside are stickers that you already had. So your next option is to trudge wearily around the school playground asking if you can swap your duplicate sticker for one that you don't have. Of course, it never worked out that way, since the missing stickers were as rare as a sighting of the sun in Britain in June 2012.

Movies; Games; Entertainment. Between crushing originality with repetitive sequels and milking the consumer for all they’re worth…and then some more with constantly inflating prices, these two genres of entertainment take their time to crossover.
Either with lacklustre movie adaptations of games, such as Max Payne, Hitman, Resident Evil and Silent Hill or top quality movie adaptations of games like… Or hastily forced game versions of the movies like Transformers, Avatar, and Harry Potter. These genres enjoy their intertwining, yet we here at WhatCulture! towers we can’t help but notice there are some top quality (and not so top quality) films they have missed which would be ripe for a game adaptation.
Therefore, to save the already pressed for imagination gaming industry the trouble of doing this themselves so they can focus on more sequels to Cod, Battlefield and other games no-one wants to see on the shelves again.

With the "unanimous" approval of both boards, Google has agreed to hand over $40 per share to acquire Motorola Mobility--the spun-off phone-making wing of the original Motorola, separate from its government and enterprise business. The price is a big premium on Motorola's last closing share price, and amounts to some $12.5 billion. That's about a third of Google's cash reserves, as per the most recent figures, which demonstrates exactly how gigantic a move this is. But exactly why is Google pulling this trick off?
Hardware-software synergy
The most obvious interpretation of the deal is that Motorola is already an internationally renowned expert in something Google is painfully naive about: manufacturing hardware in massive numbers. Motorola brought the world many of its important mobile phones over the last several decades, and the famous Razr device was so unusual and radical in design that it sold over 130 million units. While Motorola's fortunes then took a dive,...

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are planning the party of the season when they come to visit Los Angeles, but soccer star David Beckham had to decline the invite!
It’s all work and no play for international soccer sensation David Beckham. Although he and his wife,Victoria Beckham, are arguably the hottest Brits in Tinseltown, they will not be able to attend one of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s upcoming Los Angeles soirees.
“I know they have an event that we were meant to go to but I have a game that night after so I’m not really allowed at events the night before a game,” the 36-year-old L.A. Galaxy soccer stud told E! Online.
David may not be allowed to attend the royal extravaganza of the season, but the loyal Brit hopes he will be able to meet up with the royal newlyweds at some...

2 Broke Girls
According to the Official CBS Description: 2 Broke Girls is a comedy about two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner who strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business – if only they can raise the cash
Why We’re Excited: As evidence by her ability to make Michael “One Note” Cera seem believably crush-worthy in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, combined with her more recent penchant for upstaging Academy Award Winning It-Girl Natalie Portman in Thor, Kat Dennings is — for lack of a better word — da’ bomb.
Why We Probably Shouldn’t Let Our Excitement Get the Better of Us: Thanks to Sex And The City’s Michael Patrick King at the helm, James Burrows in the director’s chair, and the already winning duo that is Kat Dennings and relative newcomer Beth Behrs, that ship has sailed!

Law & Order: La returns tonight after a long break and a major cast overhaul. Skeet Ulrich is out. Alana De La Garza is in. And Alfred Molina and Terrence Howard no longer alternate weeks. Instead Terrence remains a Da upholding the "law" while Alfred is now a detective on the "order" side. Alana, who starred in the original Law & Order series, which was just canceled after 20 years on the air, reprises her role as Connie Rubirosa in the La version. In a recent conference call interview we spoke with Alfred and Alana, along with series' creator Dick Wolf, about the new dimensions to their roles.
Alfred's character, Ricardo Morales, who was a Da in the first half of the season, has returned to his roots as a cop. The actor pointed out, "The interesting thing, from a creative point of view, is that he goes...

And just what is a “Renaissance Man” anyway? No, I’m not referring to the Voyager episode and I’m also not talking about the Penny Marshall film. In this context, the term Renaissance Man is defined as a person who excels at many different endeavors: the guy can do a lot of stuff and he does it all quite well. Such a one is the subject of this interview.
Larry Blamire first came across my radar when he and I were both living in Hollywood. I was at a private screening in the home of a friend of mine and he rolled a film called The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra. I was transfixed. What a delightful way to spend some time; laughing yourself silly. I immediately found a way to contact this man as I wanted to know what makes him tick.

Cate Blanchett will be reprising her role of Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit, New Line, Warner Bros. and MGM announced Tuesday. Also on board are Ken Stott (Charlie Wilson’s War) as Dwarf Lord Balin, Sylvester McCoy (Doctor Who #7) as wizard Radagast the Brown, Lotr bit-player Jed Brophy as dwarf Nori, William Kircher as dwarf Bifur, Ryan Gage as Drogo Baggins and finally Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt to play shape-shifter Beorn. We imagine that the cast will appear in both portions. The adaption of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved novel will be broken into two separate films. Production is scheduled to begin in February 2011, and Jackson will direct both movies back-to-back from a script he co-wrote with Fran Walsh, Phiippa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro. Jackson and Walsh will produce with Carolynne Cunningham while Boyens will co-produce and Jackon’s manager, Ken Kamins, will exec produce with Zane Weiner.

Between all of the posters, trailers and featurettes, we.ve seen quite a lot of Nimrod Antal.s Predators. Well, we.re about to kick it up a notch, actually, 81 notches because AvP Galaxy has a production still gallery and that.s how many brand new images it holds. Warning: Some venture into spoiler territory. In the human department, we get loads of material of the stars looking their best and worst. Most of the portraits actually show off the weaponry more than the star. Adrien Brody.s character comes fully loaded with a rifle, pistol, knife and an ample supply of extra ammo while Alice Braga.s sticks with a high tech gun fitted with a device likely used for aiming purposes. Danny Trejo is so big he brandishes two firearms both of which are decorated with some flair. I may not know what to do with them, but...

Following the gaming industry generally requires an awful lot of looking to the future. The endless wave of new releases that demand our attention has our gaze transfixed on tomorrow. It’s an unfortunate symptom of our devotion to the new, and it usually keeps us from one very important activity: casting a critical eye over the games of yesterday, to see if they still hold that magical spark that engaged us when the media and marketing were at their most influential.
So, with all this in mind, and with the release of another Nintendo flagship title just around the corner, let us take another look at its predecessor: Super Mario Galaxy.
When speaking to the strengths of any series – Mario’s in particular – the legacy of what came before is an important reference point. With the release of Mario 64, the franchise set a seriously high water mark in gaming.

Nintendo is taking a massive sales hit. According to its annual fiscal report hardware sales are down for both the Wii and the DS. Between March 2008 and April 2009, 25.95 million Wiis were sold. Over the same period last year (April 09 – March 10), sales were down to 20.53 million. That is a 21% drop in a single year. The DS sold a little better with 31 million to 27 million sold, only a 12% drop.
Wii software sales were down 6%, from 204 million to 191 million sold, as well as DS software down 23%, from 197 million to 157 million. Top Wii titles include Wii Sports Resort at 16.4 million sold, Wii Fit Plus at 12.65 million, Super Mario Bros. Wii at 14.7 million.
Predictions for the current year foresee a further decline for the Wii, with an estimated 18 million units being sold. However, with the 3Ds being released, an estimated 30 million new units will be sold.
