Featured review
The vaudeville comic, Harry Conley, gets a chance to show his stuff on film.
This Vitaphone sound short stars Harry Conley--a vaudeville comedian. While he never became a household name like a few of the Vitaphone stars, he did, uncharacteristically, live a very long life--dying at age 98. I mention this because so many of the vaudeville stars you see in these one-reelers died young. I have no idea why this is the case.
Wilbur (Conley) is send by his boss at the bookstore on an errand to deliver a book to a customer. However, instead of just delivering the book, he just awkwardly stands there talking to the customer. Eventually, however the lady tries to get him to stick around--and it looks like she has romance on her mind. I was a bit surprised at one of the very suggestive remarks she made--it was pretty atypical of the rest of the Vitaphone shorts in this sense. Overall, a mildly entertaining short film. It's not exactly chock full of laughs but is pleasant and better than a lot of the Vitaphone comedies (they were often pretty rough!). Plus, I really did enjoy seeing this VERY aggressive woman going after her new man!
Conley only appeared in two films--starring in this one and appearing in another in 1935. Obviously, he was not a film star but I couldn't find any information on the internet about what he did in his later years.
