Sex & Nudity

  • No nudity in the entire tv show.
  • In an early episode, a seductive woman wears a tight catsuit and partly unzips her top a few times to activate a transmutation circle tattooed above her breasts. Cleavage is seen, but nothing further. Also, at one point during a fight, Edward pins her down, accidentally grabbing one of her breasts with his metal hand in the process (a bouncy sound effect is heard). He freaks out and apologizes profusely. Throughout the episode, the woman actually hits on Edward a few times (he's only 15), saying things like "it's always more fun when it's a man and a woman" and telling him to hit her up once he's older.
  • Edward is seen showering for a few seconds in episode 17 after he and Al spar with Armstrong. No nudity
  • There is a long flashback scene from "Scar's" life and his brother is shown completely naked (no genitals exposed though). Thereis a grown man who is shown entirely naked but you cant see his genitals.
  • A young boy is shown naked on a stool getting a bath. He is wearing trousers.
  • During a flashback of a female soldier, she and others are shown lying naked on the ground, among other nude aspects of the flashback.
  • A woman is shown to be naked in bed with a man. Her chest is shown but her nipples are covered by hair and arms.
  • A woman says that she wants to make love to a younger (15-year-old) boy.
  • In one of the endings, a girl is shown wearing a tube top. Cleavage is visible, and her breasts are emphasized. There are many closeup shots of her chest.
  • One or two characters have a nosebleed at one point (anime sexual arousal).
  • The character Lust, a villain, is designed to lure, attract and manipulate men into doing her bidding. She wears a strapless dress that displays cleavage. A few other characters occasionally display cleavage as well.
  • It is implied that a woman had a baby as a result of gang rape (it is stated she was taken to the military headquarters and tortured so badly that she can barely speak because of the trauma. The fact that she now has a child makes what happened obvious for adult viewers, but would probably fly over younger viewers' heads).
  • Sounds are heard making the audience believe a woman is masturbating. The camera then pans to the woman and it is revealed she is asleep and her dog is licking her foot.
  • A man announces in a scene played over-dramatically for laughs that if he becomes Fuhrer he will make it mandatory for all female officers to wear tiny miniskirts. At this, one of his men gets a nosebleed and grabs his leg, saying he'll follow him forever.
  • A man has a nosebleed and humps another man's leg.
  • One of the main characters is a womanizer.
  • It is heavily implied a woman is gang raped by a group of military officers.
  • A brief memory sequence in one later episode showing a married couple in bed together, implied to be naked, but no real nudity is seen.
  • Various characters are shown partially naked throughout the series. Men, women, and children. There's no genital exposure.

Violence & Gore

  • A man's arm is destroyed vioently, but the camera cuts away before it is destroyed. We see thick, gory blood come out of the stump for a few seconds afterward.
  • A woman coughs up blood regularly.
  • It is implied that a man's genitals are cut off. He is shown with blood on his pants in the crotch area.
  • A man's arm is cut off. It is then shown oozing/dripping blood in a closeup shot.
  • Most of the violence is not very realistic and very bloody.
  • A child has his leg and arm dismembered, he looks down to see a bloody stump where his leg was.
  • Many bloody fights throughout. There are some offscreen murders, but then we partially see the aftermath, which generally involves a pool of blood.
  • Blood is seen pouring from the stumps of a character's leg and arm early on.
  • A child is burned alive.
  • A man loses an arm, with some blood seen. He is then graphically scarred on the forehead, with blood spurting out before the scene cuts.
  • A couple is seen dead in a flashback. It is implied they were murdered.
  • A man sticks his sword inside a suit of armor and blood briefly gushes out.
  • One scene shows a mutilated female monster with a pool of blood underneath it.
  • During a fight, a man is impaled. He survives.
  • A child is choked to death by his father while another character looks on.
  • One man attempts suicide in a flashback, he is seen holding a gun to his head.
  • A large group of people are burned to death in a flashback.
  • A villain gets cut in half and a large pool of blood is seen under her.
  • A man is seen exploding peoples' heads, and blood is briefly shown spewing out. No brain matter seen.

Profanity

  • "Shit" is used a couple times.
  • There is the occasional use of profanity from the characters, usually by Edward when he is angry. Damn is commonly used throughout every episode, there are other mild profanities used rarely.
  • Bastard is used multiple times per episode, occasional uses of ass.
  • "Bitch" and "bitching" are used once.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Alcohol is drank by the older characters, and a bar scene is shared between Roy Mustang and Maes Hughes. No characters are shown getting drunk.
  • Jean Havoc is shown regularly smoking.
  • There is no drug use in the series.
  • Some scenes are done in a bar.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Gluttony is told to eat people several times during the series. However, the scene aways cuts away before we see him actually eat the person. In one instance, chewing sounds can be heard for a few seconds after the camera cuts away.
  • A child is shown getting choked to death by his father. This could be disturbing for some people.
  • Wrath breaks Lust's finger, and she briefly screams in pain.
  • The treatment of Greed will probably upset those who sympathize with his character.
  • The graphic scene early on involving a boy without an arm and leg may disturb. He is also seen in agonizing pain while getting prosthetics attached.
  • A character's appearance may be frightening to some. He is shown to have lost his sanity, and had his entire body inked with transmutations.
  • All in all, the series is very gritty, not to much a lot darker than "Brotherhood".

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A young boy on an island hiding is shown naked in the shadows a few times, but nothing much is shown at first. Later it shows his butt and him naked but his genitals are strategically covered.

Violence & Gore

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Nina's death is very frightening and intense and may upset younger viewers.
  • The last episode is very sad, many characters are killed.
  • A man fuses his own daughter, and her dog together to make a chimera. Pretty disturbing
  • Some of the more atrocious villains (Kimblee, Barry the Chopper, Pride, Dante, etc.) may be uncomfortable or infuriating to watch for a number of viewers. The first two brutally kill innocents for much of their screentime, and the third performs an upsetting murder on a chimera.
  • Maes Hughes' death might be upsetting for many viewers.
