A True Underdog Story
padilla424 February 2006
Warning: Spoilers
The Detroit Pistons, led by Ben Wallace and Finals MVP Chauncey Billups went into the NBA Finals as heavy underdogs. They would come out as champions, after a five game series victory of the old rival, Los Angeles Lakers. The Pistons corps of five players outplayed the Lakers in all five games. After splitting the first two games of the series in Los Angeles, the series moved to Detroit. The Lakers team stayed in Birmingham, Michigan and practiced at Seaholm High School during the week. The Pistons won all three home games in a row, the first team to do so in the Finals. Sadly, the Detroit Pistons team-first style of play was not widely accepted in the NBA until midway through game five of the Finals, when the media realized that a team-first style was, in fact, the best way to play the game. To sum up, the series was one of the greatest moments in sports history and a true underdog story.
