Director Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters, a long-awaited follow-up to director Jan De Bont’s 1996 classic disaster film Twister, is set to reach theatres on July 19th – and as of right now, it looks like it could do some big business… but you never know what’s going to happen with the box office these days. Before Twisters reaches the big screen, The Asylum has already swooped in and released their latest mockbuster, The Twisters, on digital and in select theatres. You can watch a trailer for The Twisters in the embed above.
The film was directed by Michael Su, who has previously directed Death Count, Bridge of the Doomed, Night of the Tommyknockers, 2025 Armageddon, Transmorphers: Mech Beasts, Bloodthirst, and Snow White and the Seven Samurai – and that’s just what he has made over the last few years. The landmark 300th episode of Supernatural brought with it a pleasant surprise in the form of the return of Sam and Dean’s father John, also bringing back Jeffrey Dean Morgan to portray him. However, despite Morgan originating the character, the producers initially wanted Bruce Campbell to play the older Winchester patriarch.
Of course, this never came to pass and the emotional episode saw the brothers temporarily reunited with their dad played by Morgan, only for the magic of the circumstances to pull John from the past and inadvertently alter history in the process.
The story came to light when Jensen Ackles was interviewed on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast Inside of You, with the actor saying:
“They actually went out to Bruce Campbell to play present-day Dad. That was the only person that they wanted. Ultimately, they couldn’t make it happen, whether it was [because of his] schedule or whatever. So they...

This week’s challenge ties in with Syfy Channel’s upcoming series and video game, Defiance. The show is set in the near future, when humans and seven different races of aliens are forced to learn to live together on Earth. The contestants must choose two of the alien races on the show, then create an offspring if the two races were to mate. Show creator Kevin Murphy introduces the challenge, and director Michael Nankin is the guest judge. The contestants take a trip up to Toronto to visit the set of Defiance - all except for Eric F., who couldn’t go because of “family obligations.” I have to assume that he either doesn’t have a passport or is on a no-fly list.

Synapse Films' Intruder was one of the finest Blu-ray releases of 2011, and they've followed it up with another of the films from the Michigan Mafia, Josh Becker's Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except. Becker was in charge of the lighting on Sam Raimi's breakout feature, The Evil Dead. That small core crew of people went on to make a huge impression on the low budget feature world. The group includes such exploitation favorites as the Raimi Brothers (Sam, Ted, Ivan), Becker (Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except), Scott Spiegel (dir. Intruder, writer Evil Dead 2), Bruce Campbell (Bruce Fucking Campbell), and producer Rob Tapert. Together they've done everything from the Evil Dead series, to Zena: Warrior Princess, to Spider-Man, to Alien Apocalypse and beyond. Truly one...

At WhatCulture! I want to start something of a campaign. You see, I really do believe right down to the bottom of my heart that Bruce Campbell, the ultimate B-movie actor, should have his own episode of Inside The Actors Studio – the stuffy and pretentious one on one interview show with James Lipton where, for the most part, the history of one’s career and the art and craft of acting is discussed at length. And before you go any further please note that I am not for one second being sarcastic or ironic. I’m being 100% honest.
People often look down on Campbell because of his B-movie roots but his critics oddly fail to admit to his success. For example he is currently starring on one of Us cable networks highest rated shows -Burn Notice. His role on the show as Sam Axe has gained him new fans and acclaim.

The birthing of a film can be a painful process, particularly in the world of independent filmmaking, and while truncated shooting schedules, limited budgets and location challenges conspire at times to create seemingly insurmountable hurdles, nothing proves more daunting for cast and crew alike than being subject to a producer with more mood swings than a 1940’s jazz band.
Such was the case on the set of director Charlie Vaughn’s Blood Mary 3D.
Originally slated to shoot in December of 2010, executive producer Chalmers (who previously produced the Bruce Campbell flicks Man with the Screaming Brain and Alien Apocalypse) made the choice to film Bloody Mary in 3D, with production therefore being delayed until spring while logistics were being hammered out.
Shooting over the course of a short six days earlier this month in and around an industrial complex in South Central L.A., this writer paid the production a...

From the cable network that brought you such small screen gems as Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, Alien Apocalypse, and Mega Piranha comes the latest Syfy Original CGI-fest Mongolian Death Worm.
Although not a masterpiece, it's not as bad as you think. Sean Patrick Flanery brings a certain level of sweaty charm and the resident hot chick, Victoria Pratt, turns in a decent performance and certainly looks good doing it, but I wouldn't go so far as to recommend this. If you're at home alone on a Saturday night and it happens to come on SyFy channel and nothing else better is on then, by all means, tune in. I wouldn't miss a rerun of the Simpsons for it though.

Two actors starring in very different films and shows, but there are numerous similarities between Nathan Fillion and Bruce Campbell, Charlotte reckons...
A theory has been formulating in my head for a long time now. Every time Nathan Fillion pops up in a film or on the TV, I can't help but think of similarities to Bruce Campbell.
No one should take this as an insult, since Nathan Fillion has become more mainstream than Campbell and has clocked up over 500,000 followers on his personal Twitter page. Yet for me, his career choices and his dedication to his fan mirror that of Bruce.
This is a good thing, given that Mr Campbell is a legend and all-round cult icon, as is the mighty Mr Fillion. Thus, I figured I should explain my theory in a little more detail...

We know it's going to happen. Scientists tell us that if something doesn't wipe us out in the next thousand years the death of the sun will. Such a fun thought. But what do scientists know? Those nerds. Here at Jpp we use movies to divine our futures - and goddammit the future looks bleak. To get an accurate sampling of every conceivable death for humankind we sampled 100 movies and divided the grim fates into 11 categories. We found it surprising that while there are certainly apocalyptic categories that stand out in our mind (thanks to blockbuster advertising) the ones we thought would be highest...aren't.
Here we go...
#11. Religious Apocalypse or the Anti-Christ
And you thought the Pope looked evil
Likelihood: 4%
Movies: The Omen (1976), The Devil's Advocate (1997), End of Days (1999), The Omen (2006)
Why worry? Apparently, as long as Arnold is alive he won't let the world come to an end (End of Days). So don't.

Even the most die-hard Bruce Campbell fans often approach the actor's latest films with trepidation. You never know whether you're going to end up watching something sublime and smart like Bubba Ho-Tep, or something that is ... not, like Alien Apocalypse. My Name is Bruce may be selling out quickly on its tour where actor/director Campbell is traveling with the film to promote it, but that doesn't mean anything ... some people would watch him read the phone book. It was a relief to discover that My Name is Bruce is a bundle of good cheesy fun. The gags tend to work, the storyline is eye-rollingly ridiculous but rarely dull, and Campbell is at his lovably jerky best.
Campbell plays Bruce Campbell -- a less successful and more obnoxious version of himself. This Bruce lives in a trailer that has seen better days, yet acts like a numero-uno prima donna on...

Somewhere, amid the noise of clattering beer bottles and the howler monkey antics of the festival crowd, films played. Welcome to Deadmonton, a truly alternative film festival where a fight is probably breaking out in the back of the room and head curators Matt Acosta and Derek Clayton will have no problem standing up at the front of the crowd to tell everyone to "shut the f#%$ up or get the f#^$ out." A fest where crowd pleasers like Tokyo Gore Police and Treevenge rock the house between retro grindhouse trailers and live, if somewhat sedate, burlesque performances. Oh wait, did I forget to mention they also managed to score the Canadian premiere of Bruce Campbell's hilarious new film, My Name is Bruce? Yeah, even before its premiere...
