As the Undertaker announces his retirement, we look back at his Wrestlemania record...
This article is from Den Of Geek Us.
WrestleMania XXX was an eventful show. It calmed the fears of those afraid that it would crash the WWE Network and cause major damage to the company's latest venture. Cesaro broke away from his tag team and broke out by winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy. Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and the Rock hung out in the ring and had a blast. Mr. T and Roddy Piper buried the hatchet. Daniel Bryan went through an endless supply of punishment before being defeating Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista.
That was a big moment and a major story, but the thing people will be talking about for a long time is the end of Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar. For the first time ever, Undertaker lost at...

Last night, on WWE Monday Night Raw- the longest running weekly episodic program in history- WCW Legend Bill Goldberg made his hotly-anticipated return. As part of the next escalation of his feud with Brock Lesner, which seems to be ripped straight from the plot of Rocky Balboa, he came out and answered Paul Heyman's challenge from last week.
And he looked great doing it.
Goldberg delivered a promo that was easily- far and away- the best he's ever sounded on a microphone. He was loose; He was natural; and he seemed to be speaking from the heart. The crowd, much to my surprise, absolutely loved him, and his entrance last night will probably go down as one of the most memorable moments WWE has had in quite a while.
I've got to hand it him. That closing line, which I'll paraphrase here: "You're not just next. You're last!

I cannot even begin to comprehend what Vince McMahon was thinking when he laid out WrestleMania 32. If what occurred in Dallas is not proof positive that he is out of touch with what his core fan base wants, then nothing is. He is the captain of the sinking Titanic, refusing to believe that his ship even hit an iceberg, let alone is being being sank by it.
I thought the wrestling throughout the night was solid at worst and pretty good at best, without anything blowing me away. Not the most glowing praise, but given the hotchpotch mess I was expecting going in, it actually delivered slightly beyond my expectations.
The issue – as always – was not with the in-ring action, but with the way it was booked. WWE got it wrong not just in all of the big matches, but in every single contest.

WrestleMania, cultural phenomenon that it is, has become a stage where the moments are made that last forever, and even though fans have come to pretty much expect classic matches and big-time appearances from superstars, it’s those moments that end up making the show.
Nobody will ever forget some of the greatest WrestleMania moments of years past – Bret Hart defeating Yokozuna at WrestleMania X and being hoisted up in celebration by the roster’s babyfaces. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit standing side by side as champions in the closing moments of WrestleMania Xx. Daniel Bryan overcoming all the odds to reach immortality at WrestleMania XXX.
Each WrestleMania needs to deliver a series of moments that ensure that it will last in the memory, standing alongside the shows that came before it. This year is no different, and while the card may seem weaker than usual at first glance,...

“The boyhood dream has come true”, gushed Vince McMahon as Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart to become the new WWF Heavyweight Champion. The match-concluding ‘Sweet Chin Music’ at WrestleMania Xii has been played time and time again, and for good reason; it was an extremely heartfelt moment.
In similar fashion, seeing genuine tears roll down the cheeks of both Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero at the close of WrestleMania Xx was seriously emotional. Fans couldn’t help but join in, recognising the hard work and sacrifice the pair had consistently made to get to that point.
Moments such as those outlined above are undoubtedly ones consumed by sheer, unadulterated joy. When these moments occur, fans can’t help but punch the air in delight. Unfortunately, WrestleMania has also been home to moments after which those same fans want to punch holes in the nearest wall out of frustration.

WrestleMania is the biggest night of the year in professional wrestling, without question. For almost 32 years it has acted as something of a Christmas for pro graps fans in the western world, the time of year when WWE (usually) ups its creative game, putting together engaging stories that make or break characters and set up the plots we’ll watch for the next 12 months.
John Cena is the biggest name in professional wrestling today, without question, and in many ways he has become something of a human version of WrestleMania. Whilst this isn’t true when it comes to fan-excitement, it is true regarding his standing and influence. His ascension to the top table of WWE was completed at the event, and a decade later sharing the ring with him at the event is considered a pretty big honour for young stars.

The modern professional wrestling fan may take them for granted somewhat, but three way matches were once extremely innovative. There is a lot of debate around where the concept started in North American pro-wrestling, with some claiming Ecw popularised the match with the infamous Terry Funk v Shane Douglas v Sabu bout in 1994. Regardless of where it came from, in the 1990s it was still new and fresh.
Due to the fairly modern creation of the match, there wasn’t a single triple threat match (as it is known in WWE) at WrestleMania until WrestleMania Xv in 1999. If you can guess who was involved in the match before clicking through the answers, your WWE trivia is on point to say the least.
Since the very first one, there has been a total of 15 triple threats on the Grandest Stage of Them All. All except one has seen a championship on the line,...

After going to Seattle and New York for WrestleMania in 2003/04, when WWE announced they’d be going to Los Angeles in 2005, it didn’t take much convincing to get me to book my tickets and make it three years in a row.
Shortly after WrestleMania Xx, I did something I hadn’t done since 1995: I stopped watching WWE for about 5 months in the spring and summer months of 2004. I just wasn’t captivated by the Chris Benoit World Title reign on Raw or the Guerrero/Jbl series on SmackDown and having just gone to University again, going out to bars and house parties took priority over what felt like a poor WWE product.
I tuned back in for SummerSlam that year and with Randy Orton winning the World title and Undertaker and Jbl battling for the belt, I started to enjoy the show again and that’s...

In his blog, Jim Ross recently speculated on some big returns for WrestleMania 32, stating: ‘The two most viable stars that WWE could bring in for WM32 or so it seems might be Goldberg and Batista. Austin and Hbk are adamant that their wrestling days are history, Hogan is still on the outs with the company plus he doesn’t need to wrestle a match with his back condition and Rock has movie commitments I’m told as does Ronda Rousey’.
Although appearing to rule out several big names, the most interesting possibility must surely be Goldberg. The WCW legend hasn’t appeared in WWE since his infamous match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania Xx in 2004, which was the end of what is generally seen as a tremendously disappointing run. Many fans would certainly be eager to see the return of one of the icons of the Monday Night Wars,...

After traveling to Seattle for WrestleMania Xix (which you can read about here), I had the bug and couldn’t help but travel to New York to see WrestleMania Xx. I’d always wanted to go to NYC, so if Seattle was possible then so was The Big Apple. I got my tickets in November 2003 and I was ready to go.
Sometimes you remember really random pieces of information and I can recall that starting in the summer of 2003, they had the WrestleMania Xx logo on everything WWE related from the website to t-shirts, you couldn’t miss it.
In spring 2003, the company announced the anniversary show would take place in Madison Square Garden and did interviews with Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper to hype it. They both talked about how excited they were to be a part of the first Mania and be there in the same building twenty years later.

There are many things that have helped make The Undertaker the most unique and memorable character in WWE history, but one of the most important has been his use of mind games. More than any other character to ever step foot in a WWE ring, The Undertaker has demanded that both the audience and his fellow performers suspend their disbelief in order to really sell the ‘supernatural’ phenomena he was creating with his ‘powers’.
For more or less twenty five years, The Undertaker has been using these mind games to get under his opponent’s skin and gain a psychological advantage. These have amplified his mythos.
‘Taker has been portrayed as a zombie that’s impervious to pain. He has been shown to have some sort of connection with the Devil and the underworld. He has been able to manipulate fire, smoke/fog, lightning, and electronic objects. And...

This WWE Network live special marks the first leg of Brock Lesnar’s Go to Hell Tour, which saw the Beast stepping foot inside Madison Square Garden for the first time since his infamous WrestleMania Xx match against Goldberg.
Still, at its core this Msg special was pretty much just an episode of Saturday Night Raw, a night full of mediocre-to-average wrestling with the most memorable moments stemming from classic Xavier Woods quips, bizarre technical glitches, and of course, awesome/annoying fans.
Odd booking decisions were out in spades as ever, though more than anything, the show probably left a lot of fans eager to see Nxt’s upcoming Respect special, where quality wrestling should be put above all the other silliness.
So, it wasn’t a great show, but it was still full of hilarious screw-ups, cringe-worthy interviews and all the madness that defines even the laziest WWE show.

The Undertaker is the single most enduring character in WWE history. Perhaps the biggest success Mark Calaway can point to since debuting in 1990 has been his ability to keep things fresh. Initially, the character was an undead zombie, but the man has also played a Satanic ‘Lord Of Darkness’ and supernatural phenomenon, amongst others. One of the most startling shifts was when ‘Taker returned at Judgment Day 2000 as something completely fresh.
Going by the nickname, ‘American Bad Ass’, The Undertaker was suddenly more realistic than ever before. Looking to throw their weight behind this drastic new direction, the creative team handed ‘Taker more mic time and morphed him into an uncompromising brawler. Calaway’s real-life wife at the time, Sara was even eventually added into storylines.

The Undertaker is the most successful gimmick in WWE history. As the supernatural ‘Deadman’, ‘Taker was known for being allegedly impervious to damage, had the power to summon fire and lightning, loved funeral dirges, and had some sort of connections with the Devil and the afterlife. As cheesy as all of that sounds, Mark Calaway turned that character into one of the most memorable and successful of all time.
However, Undertaker is also known for another gimmick: the American Badass. From May 2000 to November 2003, Undertaker wore jeans, bandanas and sunglasses; drove a motorcycle down to the ring, and acted like a normal human being. It was definitely a surprise to many people when this new Undertaker appeared, and that run still has its share of memorable moments.

For many WWE Superstars, WrestleMania is a moment of crowning achievements and accomplished dreams. They spend years toiling away, wearing their bodies down, hoping for their own WrestleMania moment, and in some cases they finally achieve that dream, only for it to fade away once the Show of Shows is over.
Many wrestlers have managed to put on some spectacular matches at WrestleMania, which have led to historic, emotional, and otherwise unforgettable moments at WrestleMania itself. However, in some of these cases, within a few months of WrestleMania being over, those same Superstars have lost whatever momentum they had going into, and leaving the show.

This Sunday is the biggest day on the calendar year for those of us who still prefer this Steve Austin over the one from The Six Million Dollar Man and who still get the urge to patriotically tear off our shirts whenever this terrible Rick Derringer song kicks in. It’s WrestleMania XXX (that’s XXX as in “30,” not in porn terms), and it’s airing live from New Orleans on Sunday night.
I’m particularly excited for this iteration of the show thanks to the development that has completely re-aligned the way I watch and think about the WWE’s theatrical grappling arts.

There isn’t a more gargantuan event for professional wrestling than WWE’s self proclaimed annual ‘showcase of the immortals’. Each year, it’s perpetually riddled with unabashed spectacle, defining moments of various wrestlers careers and creating countless future video package staples that transcend the context of the business itself.
It is – by all accounts – wrestling’s must-see event.
The scale and importance of WrestleMania is clearly at such a forefront in the minds of WWE’s hard-working creative forces, that it often provides a large quantity of moments that will set the rest of the year in motion. There’s everything from shocking championship wins, to the pulse-quickening token Undertaker match. But occasionally, there are also huge face and/or heel turns that can change the landscape of the company, or sometimes just the careers of those involved, for the foreseeable future.

Wrestlemania is the biggest pay-per-view of the year for WWE. It marks the end of the WWE’s calendar year, and is supposed to be the culmination of the biggest storylines of the year. It is essentially the Super Bowl of wrestling.
As it stands the main event, features a returning Batista, against Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This is more than a serviceable match, between two stars that would have been a great main event six years ago. However, this is not the match that many had expected to headline Wrestlemania XXX. This is the same Batista, who has been gone for over 4 years and immediately upon his return, was thrust into the most covenant spot in the company.

When the PG Era took over, this popular match type was one of the first things to vanish along with the Evening Gown Match and their distant cousins the Lingerie Match, the Paddle-on-a-Pole Match, and every match ever contested in a trough of mud, gravy, eggnog, or pudding.
Although the PG Era may have killed the more risque matches, that doesn’t mean we can’t pay homage to them. Here we will be counting down WWE’s Top 22 Most Titillating T&A Matches. Matches that got everyone’s hearts racing and even had us laughing a time or two. Just to make things clear, we are only taking into account matches,...

We’ve also observed the likes of Triple H, The Undertaker and Rey Mysterio accompanied to the ring by live music from bands such as Motorhead, Limp Bizkit and P.O.D.
With the news that Living Colour will be on hand to provide Cm Punk with a live version of his entrance music ‘Cult of Personality’ this Sunday, there’s no doubt that it’ll be added to the huge list of great WrestleMania moments.

WWE have announced that business magnate Donald Trump will be inducted in the Hall of Fame Class of 2013. Trump will join the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Mike Tyson, Pete Rose and Drew Carey.
Trump’s relationship with WWE dates back to the 1980s. He hosted back-to-back WrestleManias at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1988 and 1989. In recent years Trump has made several appearances for WWE and is known as both a fan of the organisation and friend of Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon. Trump appeared at WrestleMania Xx in 2004; interviewed by Jesse Ventura. In 2007, Trump would accompany Bobby Lashley to the ring in his match against Umaga (managed by McMahon). Lashley would go on to win the match and as part of the stipulation, McMahon’s head was shaved by Trump. In 2009, Vince McMahon ‘sold’ Monday Night Raw to Trump.

The WWE is celebrating the 10th birthday of the World Heavyweight Championship. The Big One was not considered a continuation of the WCW Title or the Nwa Championship, as it was introduced following Brock Lesnar’s decision only to defend the Undisputed belt on SmackDown. Triple H was subsequently awarded the title on September 2nd 2002.
The belt was defended on Raw until 2005, when Batista was transferred to SmackDown. When Cm Punk cashed in his Mitb opportunity and defeated Edge for the title in 2008, it was taken back to Raw. The title was swapped between the two brands until early 2009, when Edge beat John Cena in a Last Man Standing bout he took the belt to SmackDown, where it has remained ever since.

No it isn’t a misprint or a communication error. It’s not a hoax or a prank. Blink once, blink twice, rub your eyes if you have to (gently of course). Now look at the headline again. Are you smiling? You should be.
At Destination X the 34 year old realised a life long dream and shook the professional wrestling world to its very core. Not just because he beat Bobby Roode, the man with the longest Tna World Championship reign in history, but because of who he is and how he did it. It has long been considered amongst Wrestling fans that if you want to watch the modern day product you are going to have to put up with a lot of pain with not much joy in return. Gone are the days, it seems, that wrestling takes priority over selling merchandise to children or telling people who or what is trending worldwide.

As I type this, WWE has no less than six championship titles: WWE, World Heavyweight, Intercontinental, United States, Divas and Tag Team. The truly shocking thing is that's not even a huge number for the promotion, as you only have to go a few years back to find two women's belts and two sets of tag team championships. Go a little further back and you'll find even more - in fact we even did a feature last year on some of our favorite defunct wrestling titles.

The build up for Wrestlemania 28 truly steps up another gear as tonight’s WWE Raw SuperShow from Boston is a 3-hour special dubbed “Raw Gets Rocked” showcasing the return of The Rock.
To hype the event, John Cena appeared on the Toucher & Rich morning radio show on Boston’s 98.5 station and said not only would The Rock be appearing tonight but he would also be wrestling in his first match, although one that won’t be televised.
Cena said it will be The Rock & him teaming up with Zack Ryder to take on World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry, The Miz & R-Truth in a dark match main event. This would officially be The Rock’s first match back in the WWE since Wrestlemania Xx some eight and a half years ago in 2004.
The ironic point in all this is that the WWE have been building towards the Rock and Cena tag...

With Brock Lesnar recently striking a deal with the WWE to be featured as a playable character in their upcoming game WWE ’12 (this despite him working in another sport for the last several years), the door seems well and truly open for a wrestling comeback in the near future. It’s something that both sides see as beneficial; WWE owner Vince McMahon because he is always looking for a big marquee star for each year’s Wrestlemania extravaganza (and this year has one in The Rock vs. John Cena dream match) and Lesnar because he is interested in the large pay-off and it will boost his image.
Over the years Vince and Lesnar have spoken about a comeback match but nothing has come off and he still hasn’t wrestled in the WWE since Wrestlemania Xx when a truly terrible match with Goldberg (also his last at the company) was...

Despite being part of a different sport & direct rival to wrestling with Ufc, former three time World Champion Brock Lesnar could be appearing in the upcoming WWE 12 video game as a playable character under the “Legends’ wrestling category. PWInsider reports that Lesnar has been included at the 11th hour after talks between WWE, Thq and Ufc proved successful, and he will be formally announced as a character in the game this week.
It looks like Thq’s working relationship on the upcoming Undisputed 3 helped to no end and Ufc agreed to allow Lesnar to be used in the game as long as it as a ‘wrestler’ and not in an ‘Mma capacity’ and I guess their thinking is it can only enhance the profile of a star attraction. Paul Heyman is said to have helped broker the deal, Lesnar’s first since leaving the company seven and a half years ago.

This week, WWE dropped the bombshell that The Rock would be returning to the ring at November’s Survivor Series PPV event for his first match since 2004. Not since the “Rock and Sock Connection” put over “Evolution” at Wrestlemania Xx has The Rock been in a competitive match. And not since then has he sported that questionable goatee.
At next year’s Wrestlemania, The Rock will step in the ring with John Cena as his opponent in what has been dubbed a ‘dream match’. Come November however, the two will be partners as early WWE advertising points towards them teaming up in a 5 on 5 Survivor Series Elimination Match. So what better time than now to examine the best matches “The People’s Champion” has ever had.
Here’s ten of the best from The Rock’s wrestling career.

People’s eyebrows were raised worldwide recently when The Rock was being heavily advertised as ‘returning to the ring’ at this year’s WWE Survivor Series on November 20th at Madison Square Garden but now the self proclaimed ‘Great One’ has confirmed the story on his facebook page and it’s definitely happening. In what will be his first wrestling match in over seven and half years, The Rock revealed he will be teaming with his long-set Wrestlemania 28 opponent John Cena for a match, but there’s no word on whether it’ll be a normal tag team bout or a more traditional 8 man Survivor Series elimination match.
Right now the WWE facebook page has an ad with The Rock and Cena featured with the tagline; “The Rock and John Cena Join Forces Never Before and Never Again.”

This weekend, over 70,000 live fans and millions more at home will cast their eyes on WrestleMania Xxvii, the biggest event of the year in professional wrestling. The show will be live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta and will be hosted by Dwayne Johnson (who has brought "The Rock" back to the WWE). The top matches include a tilt between two legends (Triple H versus the Undertaker), a six-person tag match starring an MTV personality (John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi against Dolph Ziggler and LayCool) and the match for the coveted WWE Championship (current title-holder the Miz defending against John Cena).
Cena has been the perpetual headliner at WrestleMania for the better part of the past five years or so (he had been in one of the main events of each WrestleMania since 2005, and he has gone on last twice). But though he's the top guy in the company now,...

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has spent the last few years flexing his muscles on the big screen rather than in the wrestling ring, starring in family-oriented fare like "The Tooth Fairy," bawdy comedies such as "The Other Guys" and a slew of in-your-face action flicks from "Faster" to "Fast Five."
Now, however, the Rock is returning to the world in which he first made his name, hosting WrestleMania Xxvii on April 3 at Atlanta's Georgia Dome. He made the announcement during an appearance on "Monday Night Raw," clearly relishing being back in the WWE mix and issuing challenges to fellow wrestlers John Cena and WWE Champion the Miz.

In the words of the guest of honor on Monday night's (February 14) episode of "Raw," "Finally, the Rock has come back!" Dwayne Johnson walked away from professional wrestling back in 2004 (his last appearance was at WrestleMania Xx) to follow his dream of becoming a movie star (a goal he has accomplished several times over). In the years since his departure, plenty of stars have been made (John Cena, Randy Orton) and plenty of veterans have left and returned (Mick Foley, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin), but fans have been clamoring for the Rock to step back into the wrestling world in some capacity or another. On Monday night, they got their wish.
