Defying the odds at Sunday’s Creative Arts Emmys, Michaela Coel (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) ended up winning the Best Drama Guest Actress race for the Prime Video spy thriller. Many awards pundits thought that Claire Foy (“The Crown”) might prevail, especially considering she had already won this same guest actress category in 2021 as well as the lead actress race in 2018. For this 2024 contest, the two nominees faced off against Marcia Gay Harden (“The Morning Show”), Sarah Paulson (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) and Parker Posey (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”).
Coel submitted the episode “Infidelity” in which she plays Bev, a secret spy who tries to infiltrate the marriage between John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine). This marks Coel’s second career Emmy victory after previously prevailing for writing her HBO limited series “I May Destroy You” (2021).

Entertainment Squad, the boutique distribution company founded by Shaked Berenson, has acquired the relationship comedy In Fidelity, starring Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live, Fallout) and Cara Buono (Stranger Things, Mad Men), as well as Dennis Haysbert and Illeana Douglas.
The company is planning a release early next year.
In Fidelity sees Parnell and Buono play a happily married New York City couple who, upon receiving life-changing news, decide to live a life of no regrets by experimenting with a “hall pass” for an open relationship. “After a tricky love triangle forms with their musician neighbor,” portrayed by Haysbert, it also soon draws in the couple’s flirtatious friend (Douglas). Plus, there are “unexpected consequences for their rebellious Gen Z daughter (Willow Shields).”
The film is written and directed by Rob Margolies, who directed the boxing drama Bobcat Moretti, starring Vivica A. Fox.

Last year, the nominees for both Best Drama Guest Actor and Best Drama Guest Actress were drawn from just two shows: “The Last of Us” and “Succession.” The former reaped a lucky seven nominations while the latter nabbed five. We don’t think any show will manage to snag that many nominations across these two drama guest acting categories this year but we do think one show will land more bids than any other: Amazon Prime Video’s “Mr. And Mrs. Smith.”
The spy-thriller series, created by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, is a reboot of the 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Glover stars in the lead role opposite “Pen15” actress and creator Maya Erskine. The two multi-hyphenates feature as a pair of spies (John and Jane) who must pretend to be a couple and complete missions together. The episodes each depict the stages of a relationship through the prism a spy thriller.

Wife Beyoncé, 36, is featured on the song, which tackles the infidelity in the couple’s marriage. She and the couple’s daughter Blue Ivy make appearances in the video, with the 5-year-old walking her dad down a church aisle before he enters a confessional booth to disclose his sins to his wife.
“Family Feud” drew attention upon the album’s release for its reference to Becky, the mistress mentioned on Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
