- John Lambrix: You don't get it, do you? This isn't just a sport for me. It's who I am! It's all I've got. Unlike you I don't do music. All right? I stink at school. I mean, you take away wrestling... I don't even know who I am. How sad is that?
- John Lambrix: You're gonna do this thing? 'Cause I mean I can pretty much guarantee he's gonna put some serious hurt work on you.
- Jace: I know.
- John Lambrix: But you're going to show up anyway?
- Jace: I will if you will.
- John Lambrix: [Groans] Who am I kidding anyway, huh? I'm totally addicted to the glory rush.
- Jace: This is the first conversation we've had that hasn't ended up being all about me.
- Mary Beth: So?
- Jace: So... why am I such a selfish jerk?
- Mary Beth: Selfish jerk? That's a little harsh.
- Jace: No, seriously, Mary Beth... why would you ever wanna hang out with me?
- Mary Beth: Because, you don't care that I look like a hideous mutant she-beast.
- Jace: [smiles] That's not true.
- Mary Beth: How would you know?
- [Jace leans over and gently strokes runs his fingers over her face]
- Jace: Because somebody like you would have to have a face that matches her heart.
- John Lambrix: Hey, Newfield. Why aren't you out there playing for the home team?
- Jace: Oh, I was going to but my seeing eye dog kept pawing everyone's helmets off. HAHA!
- John Lambrix: You're a funny guy.
- Jace: Yeah, I don't see you laughing. Oh, wait, you're the one who's supposed to be making all the lame blind jokes.
- [Fly rides his bike into Jace's yard]
- Vincent Fly Shue: How you doing?
- Jace: What's up?
- Vincent Fly Shue: You moving in?
- Jace: That's the rumor. Name's Jace.
- Vincent Fly Shue: Vince.
- [shakes Jace's hand, then waves the other in front of Jace's face]
- Jace: [grabs his arm] What are you doing?
- Vincent Fly Shue: I was... testing. You're, uh...
- Jace: [smirks] You can call me Daredevil.
- Vincent Fly Shue: But how'd you know my hand was there?
- Jace: Facial vision. It has to do with vibrations in the air. I can tell where people are when they move.
- Vincent Fly Shue: [moves around] Like Bat-radar, huh?
- Jace: Just one of my many superpowers.
- T-Rex Turner: Good job, Newfield. I'll see you at State.
- Jace: I'll be there.
- T-Rex Turner: And that move of yours... it *won't* work again.
- Coach Rice: One last thing. Luke, you're back in at 145. Jace you're going up to 152. You're going to take on T-Rex. Motion drill on your feet!
- Jace: [Everyone rises to start the drill. Jace grabs Fly's arm] Wait a second. Did he just say I'm taking on T-Rex?
- Vincent Fly Shue: Nice knowing you, buddy.
- Jace: Doesn't it ever tick you off? That when people look at you, the only thing they see is a blind guy?
- Mason Wyatt: What? I'm blind? How am I going to get home?
- [laughs]
- Mason Wyatt: Man, of course, I'm blind. So are you. So what?
- Jace: Thanks for your advice?
- Mason Wyatt: What do you want me to say to you, huh? Like stay the course, it gets easier. Well guess what man, it *doesn't*! People are going to treat you differently always because you are different.
- Jace: Tell me something I don't know.
- Mason Wyatt: Okay, okay I will! YOU have been walking around here with a chip on your shoulder a mile high! You might as well have a little blinking light on your shoulder that says "Look at me. Pity me. Poor misunderstood me."... Look why don't you - play your song another way. People listen to the music you make. Play it so that they can see you as you really are.
- Mason Wyatt: Well, you told you, you could be a team player.
- Jace: Just took your advice.
- Mason Wyatt: What was that? And please don't scare me by telling me that you actually listened to something I said.
- Jace: I got rid of that chip on my shoulder the size of Brooklyn.
- Coach Rice: [Jace's shoulder pops out after a wrestling match] Popped out?
- Jace: Yeah. Means you can just - pop it back in, right?
- Coach Rice: I *can*. But it's gonna kill.
- Jace: Can't be any worse than it already is.
- Coach Rice: All right. I'll help you out. Relax, let me have the wing. Let me have the arm.
- [holds Jace's arm.]
- Coach Rice: Hey Mary Beth.
- [Jace relaxes. Coach pops Jace's shoulder back into place]
- Coach Rice: Ice. Ice it good.
- Jace: You know I would love a real chance to take that guy down. I really would.
- Mary Beth: Maybe you should try out for a team.
- Vincent Fly Shue: Please don't make it archery.
- Jace: [acting like he's got archery equipment] Oh that's good. Look out!
- Mary Beth: I was thinking wrestling.
- Jace: I'm sorry I think she said wrestling.
- Vincent Fly Shue: Can he do that?
- Jace: Please don't encourage her.
- Patty Newfield: [after Jace says that he wants to try out for the wrestling team] It sounds dangerous.
- Jace: Mom, my whole life is dangerous. Walking out the front door is dangerous. It doesn't mean I should sit in my room and hide.
