The meaning of life

'Tiny Toon Adventures' is one of those shows that has gotten better with each re-watch, and this is coming from someone who has always had a big soft spot for it (do slightly prefer similar shows 'Animaniacs' and 'Pinky and the Brain' though). It has plenty for both children and adults, especially young adults with the humour being more familiar and funnier to them, and it has a ball with its clever concept and its writing and characters.

"A Cat's Eye View" is an example of one of many segment structured episodes ('Tiny Toon Adventures' had more segment structured stories than individual stories). In this case it's three, named "Little Dog Lost", "Party Crasher Plucky" and "Homeward Bound". Some episodes have segments that are equal in quality to each other, most are cases of some segments being better than others. "A Cat's Eye View" is one example of the latter. Not a bad episode and was actually a little better than expected, considering how cutesy it sounded, but not the best 'Tiny Toon Adventures' has to offer.

Of the three, the best segment is surprisingly "Little Dog Lost". Not a perfect segment, with a too neat ending and Elmyra's abuse makes her thoroughly unlikeable. It is however very charming and warm-hearted with a strong emotional core and it does help that Byron is very relatable and an engaging lead. The weakest of the three is "Homeward Bound", which came over as bland and uninteresting. That the story is near-non-existent and predictable doesn't help, likewise with the too cutesy tone and Furrball's personality doesn't feel strong enough.

My opinion of "Party Crasher Plucky" is mixed to positive. It is by far the funniest of the three and the closest the episode comes to evoking the wacky spirit of the show at its best. Plucky is a lot of fun and a larger than life personality as usual. Against all that, it is also the segment that is the least relevant to the episode's subject. Where "A Cat's Eye View" is at its weakest is the wraparound story, which is paper thin and repetitive.

Expectedly, all three segments are extremely well animated. Especially the imaginative reactions in "Party Crasher Plucky" and the vibrant colours. Did find the animation a touch scrappy in the wraparound story though. The music is as good as the old Looney Tunes cartoons (prime-Looney Tunes, not most of the 60s ones) in being characterful and adding to the action, if not quite enhancing it in the same way. It always helps to have a memorable theme tune, and the one for 'Tiny Toon Adventures' is suitably hip and very catchy.

Writing has more than enough moments of smartness and wit, particularly in "Party Crasher Plucky". Most of the characters are handled beautifully and faithfully, especially Plucky and Byron. The voice acting is uniformly excellent.

In summary, uneven but decent. 6/10.
