Definitely not National Lampoon
Sard_O_Niks15 February 2006
If you check the other comments, you'll hear about this being a great romantic comedy. It's not. As a romantic comedy, it barely passes muster. The laughs are few and far between, the plot is completely formulaic, and the only thing "National Lampoon" about this film is the title. Douglas is wooden as Adam, although Chriqui is very convincing as Eve. The frat-house shenanigans are tame beyond belief when compared to other Lampoon college movies, and the girl waiting for the perfect time to toss in her V-card is an old theme that isn't freshened in any way by this film. After great National Lampoon titles like "Van Wilder", "Animal House", and the "Vacation" movies, this one feels like the first attempt of someone straight out of film school.

OK film but it is not National Lampoon Material
gemstones19 February 2006
When I think of National Lampoon I think of school-boy jokes, smut, innuendo, gross-out scenes and heaps of gratuitous flesh, beer and stupidity. It's the kind of thing I found outrageously funny at 13 (and still do 40 years later). There is scarcely any need for acting because the "actors" are playing themselves. But Adam and Eve is not like that. It has a plot, it has some character development, it even has some real acting in it. I enjoyed the basic premise of the story even if it has been done a hundred times before. It's an old theme, and it can do with re-examining on a regular basis as society changes (or doesn't). It had a few (relatively tame) gross-out scenes and some funnyish scenes but mostly it had what no National Lampoon should ever have: subtlety. Not great cinema, but a bit of good fun.

This is not the comedy that it was labeled to be.
sonedai23 August 2006
This is not the "wildly hilarious" comedy that was promised on the DVD cover. This is a relationship movie that has very few funny moments. I was expecting something along the lines of Van Wilder, but this movie is pretty serious.

However, the acting isn't bad, and I found myself actually caring about what happened to the characters, though I think I would have enjoyed the story more if they had left out Adam's disgusting house mates. But the gross factor goes along with the National Lampoon tag, I guess.

Overall, not bad if you have nothing better to watch. But if you're looking for something funny, you get more laughs out of RV. Seriously.

I just saw this horrid excuse for a National Lampoon movie................
adle010316 February 2006
I admit when it comes to watching straight to video National Lampoon movies nowadays, it's expected to be something zany for the average couch stoner to watch on a Saturday when there's nothing else to do. This was advertised as a "Hilarious comedy in the spirit of Animal House and Van Wilder", and anyone who has seen Adam & Eve knows that we've been duped. Duped to no end. There were no laugh out loud moments of hilarity. The editing was horrid, the dialogue was horrid, and the music montages were too often. We get it, she's a virgin and needs to ponder if she's ready, while thinking back to the moments she felt secure with him... But did they need 8 separate montages throughout the movie to say it? That part killed me worse than the fact that this "abstinance love story" was nothing more than a way for someone to tag the National Lampoon name to a bad flick that most likely needed to recoup as much of it's low budget as possible. I guarantee there will be a lot of horndogs hoping for boobies and hi-jinx to grab it from the shelves, only to be disappointed when nothing funny or exciting happens well into the film. I sat through it, cringing and bored, hoping for a possible "hilarious" catchphrase to use one day. All I got was lethargic, disappointed, and an ending to a movie that sucked as bad as the main character's blue balls.

Don't waste your money or time
heathdunn13 May 2006
My girlfriend and I picked this movie up at the video store thinking to ourselves "This should be funny, National Lampoon is genuinely funny for those boring afternoons". We were sorely disappointed.

From the get-go, this movie looks like it could have potential. No. Stop thinking that. The acting is horrid, the jokes are not funny (I can't even think of a moment where I laughed, nor my girlfriend). We sat in disbelief as we waited for a joke to come, or possibly this movie to even get better - but no. The "National Lampoon" name was obviously tagged on so someone would actually watch this. Well that worked.

To sum this up, I watched the rest of this movie hoping for something funny (my girlfriend walked off and did something more constructive), something to justify the $5 I wasted on this. In the end, this one found its way back to the video store and I insisted that the movie was scratched so I could get another movie that would redeem that $5. Don't watch this movie, unless you're looking at how "not" to make a movie.

this movie sucked
lotsoluv92813 March 2006
I loved National Lampoon's Van Wilder and Animal House so I thought "Oh, this must be an awesome movie!!" When me and my friend started it, we thought the beginning must be a lead in and the plot would start taking off soon. Unfortunately, this bullshit made up the entire movie. The acting in this movie was horrible-the guy couldn't act to save his life and is using his father's name to actually get parts in Hollywood. The girl's performance was okay, but she has basically screwed over her entire reputation because she chose to be in this movie. If you know what's right for you and don't want to waste $5 at Blockbusters, never ever rent and watch this movie.

sorry national lampoon fans, this is NOT worth watching
trackzinger2 August 2006
With great hopes of hearing that this movie was funny my roommates and i rented it. i would have rather watched grass grow, hung myself, or stab myself in the eye with a knife then watch this movie. the plot was weak at best, the acting was horrible. the big scene you wait the entire movie for was worthless. the only thing that held this movie together was the character of eve (Emmanuelle Chriqui) and the character munch (Brian Klugman). munch did some funny things, not laugh out loud funny but things that you wish you did in college. the character of eve was very attractive however lacked in acting. if you really want to waste a hour and a haft of your life go head watch this movie, but it frankly sucks. i've seen some bad movies, and this is surly on my top 3 all time worst movies list, hands down.

National Lampoons chick flick
pkzeewiz4 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
A boy named Adam meets a girl named Eve and falls for her. She doesn't wanna give up the goods and he starts getting upset about it after a while. His friends tell him to move on, her friends tell her she should do it with him and all kinds of stuff happens and they end up together as if you couldn't figure that out.

This movie was really, really bad.. It was more of a chick flick than a crazy guy movie. It did feature nudity and lots of frat boy childish things, but it lacked laughs. The one thing that I found funny was the conversation about the proper way to wipe ones bum. It did not deserve the National Lampoon title. 5 minutes into it, I knew I hated it.

Direction sucks, acting is horrible - Michael Douglas' kid is a horrible actor and super ugly, the girl was sexy but annoying. The music was bad too.

I couldn't advise anyone to watch it. I gave it 2/10 stars

Adame & Eve = An Hour and a Half Time Well Spent. Warning: Spoilers
It's Low Budget, Amateurish, and Simple. When I came across the DVD on Amazon I was only interested in buying it, because it had National Lampoons plastered over the front cover. When it arrived and I watched it for the first time I was pleasantly surprised.

It's the story of Adam and Eve, but not the story we are familiar with. In National Lampoons version of Adam and Eve Adam falls for Eve a beautiful college student who happens to be a Virgin. At first the virginity thing doesn't pose a problem, but during their nine month relationship and Eve's reluctance to lose her virginity Adam's frustration causes him to question leaving the relationship and the woman he truly loves.

This is a teen movie so there is obviously profanity, fart jokes, and alcohol filled parties with half naked girls, but blended in with a beautiful story of Love and Friendship.

The beautiful Emmanuelle Chriqui was of course fabulous in the film. I wish I could say the same for Cameron Douglas. I could sense he was uncomfortable in certain scenes, which made him appear like a poor actor, which in all honesty he isn't just a newcomer. Maybe a little more rehearsals and he would have done the part justice.

I'd recommended this to all National Lampoon fans and possibly anybody who likes a beautiful love story with some fart jokes in the mix. This is a great first date movie or for any guy still trying to get his girl into bed.

7 out of 10 stars.

A B grade B movie
BentSpoon10 February 2007
No one expects a movie with National Lampoon in the title to be high theater, but most National Lampoon movies are funny in a low brow way. "Adam and Eve" couldn't cut the mustard. Emmanuelle Chriqui is GORGEOUS, but that alone couldn't save the movie. The love story is sweet, and the chaste Eve is treated in a respectful way, but the script wasn't funny, the supporting characters were not funny. George Dzundza, who I remember fondly from his Law and Order days, was wasted in this film. The male lead seemed too stoned and apathetic to care about anyone. Thank God this movie was on Starz and I didn't have to pay for a ticket.

very funny romantic comedy
m-soto30 September 2005
I was lucky enough to screen this movie a while back. The raw cut was very impressive. I thought it would be worthy of a future theater release. Comparable to the great Adam Sandler romantic comedies, but with more of an Animal House feel. This movie has many actors that you would recognize from other movies (like the dude driving the Jetta in fast and furious) or TV (like the hot chick in Entourage) and obviously Michael Douglas' son - Cameron. This is definitely not a talentless production, rather one of those rare occasions where a few young talented actors come together and show some signs of what will make them future movie stars. I cannot wait to see the final release. There are scenes in this movie that will bring a lot of us guys back to our college days. Also great for women who would like insight into the dumb things guys do and talk about when they get together with nothing but time on their hands; great times and lots of laughs. This movie catches this environment like few movies I have seen. Highly recommended.

Romantic Comedy
onooitgedacht27 June 2009
I liked Adam and Eve because it is a nice romantic comedy which contains college humor as romance ass-well. It maybe just gets a little boring, and the relation between Adam and eve does not really develops true the movie, but maybe that was the whole point? I thought the acting was nice but don't know much about it, why does this review has to be 10 lines?

To all who are saying this isn't National Lampoon enough: Does it has to be? What's wrong with a nice Romantic Comedy? For all those who just want 2 C something fun new movies Sex Drive and The Hangover are very nice, also Yes-Man is a good one if you want to have a good laugh.

Conclusion: NICE movie, watch it. I enjoyed watching it and I give it a 7/10.

Oh my God, I can't believe I'm watching this
charlie-davis11 May 2006
The movie is playing as I type this. How I netflixed this I have no idea, I think it was the National Lampoon tag. This is the worst move I've seen...ever. This is worse than Demolition Man, worse than Sleepless in Seattle, worse than The Replacements. I can't believe how bad this movie is. I thought the beginning was a lead in, and she was going to have a penis or something, but I'm slowly realizing that this movie is serious.

The acting has got to be some sort of b-league intro to acting class rejects. I can't believe Michael Douglas's son is this bad. I might get really hammered to see if I find this more amusing, but I doubt it. Maybe they're going for the college stoner crowd. But are you kidding me?!?

I hate myself for having sat through it this long.

Douglas is horrid
jbuckingham14 April 2006
You would think that acting would be in Cameron Douglas' genetic code with his Dad and especially grandfather being talented actors. That is what I thought going into this movie. With the past successes of National Lampoons with Chevy Chase, Animal House, Van Wilder and coupled in this movie with the lovely Emmanuelle Chriqui and my expectations were high.

So disappointed. Douglas is absolutely horrid. Quite obviously he received this job based solely on his last name. You will sit there hoping the movie gets better, but it does not. Don't waste your time with this one. "Pathetic" really doesn't do this film justice.

Do not waste your money on this one
wingsgurl4ever14 July 2006
This was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen. I obviously wasn't expecting this National Lampoon film to be anywhere near as good as Van Wilder (really funny movie--a must see) or even Dorm Daze (which was okay, not extremely great), but this one was just pathetic. The storyline (girl chooses to stay a virgin but her boyfriend isn't keen on that idea) seems like it would be interesting, but without some comedy it was made out to be just plain awful and perhaps too realistic. The characters were the typical college kids; nothing too extravagant. I must say that my favourite thing about the whole movie was the choice of music played-that's all! Boring, pointless and not at all comical pretty much sums up this lackluster film. Honestly, unless it is the only movie you can get your hands on to watch, don't waste your time or money on this!

Shame on you, National Lampoon!
magicmarker_pr10 March 2008
I rented this movie thinking it was going to be a typical National Lampoon's movie (lots of laughs, college humor, the same means of Animal House). Instead, I got a movie that sounded like a sex ed documentary, because it was too melodramatic to be considered a romantic comedy. Adam (Cameron Douglas) didn't seem to be the "sex crazy guy" described in the movie summary in the back of the box. Eve (Emanuelle Chriqui) character was okay because of the message she wanted to bring up to the audience. Adam's buddies weren't present in the movie that much, so we don't get enough feedback of Adam's life BEFORE meeting Eve.

I'll give this movie a 1 out of 10, because I cant give it a 0. I'm still upset about the name "National Lampoon" in the box.

Derived Plot - But Great Realism
6RO74 March 2007
Plot & Pacing are typical of your straight-to-video flick.

What's great with this movie is how it often takes typically-cliché college-movie scenes and executes with some modern-realism. Anybody who's been to college and partied their ass off will agree. Notice the trashed house, random convo's about pubic trimming and wiping, and even the party scene is realistically filmed without the normal clichés (spare the band). The career fair scene especially struck home...can't tell you how many friends visited after graduating telling me to "enjoy it while it lasts, the real world sucks."

Too bad the plot sucks, but the guy who wrote this clearly has been to college, and tranferred his experiences well to the film. Worth catching if you & some friends have a "hazy" movie night.

Remarkably bad
jfpmndla9 October 2011
I gave this 1 out of ten -- +5 for Emmanuelle Chriqui and -4 for the rest of the movie. It looks like it was written by 2 different people: the first a thoughtful romantic and the other a retarded frat boy. Unfortunately, the frat boy's input won out. I can only assume that Cameron Douglas got the part because of his family connections (Michael's son)-- no self-respecting casting director would have hired this cigar store Indian. I suppose that this was listed as a comedy by default -- not sure what other category it could be put in since "turkey" is not an option. I didn't think it was possible but this movie is below National Lampoon's usual standards. Do yourself a favor and give this one a pass.

Give it a shot
dancingqueen6931 May 2009
Okay, so this wasn't like all the other National Lampoon movies, like it was hardly funny...at all. However if you go into it knowing that, then it's actually a great movie. And it's also a slow movie, just a warning, but I loved it. It's a movie I will always remember this movie and certain parts from it, there are many fabulous words of advice (probably more of a chick flick, I don't think most guys would wait this out) But honestly, don't just ride it off. I'm a teenager, I love the funny movies out like all the other National Lampoon movies, this one is just a bit more...real? Than the others? I would give it a shot for sure, when you think you're in the mood for it of course (:

Romp stomp and snore
p-stepien11 October 2011
Love hits you like a frying pan - hard and fast. Adam (Cameron Douglas), student / rocker / pizza delivery boy living the life with a bunch of extreme slobs, falls head over heels for Eve (Emmanuelle Chriqui) a down-to-earth diligent university chic with one fatal flaw: she is a virgin and has no immediate intention to change that. After months of going out Adam is still stuck in second base with blue balls and not even a hope for a BJ...

National Lampoon is renowned for the wacky in-your-face comedy focused mostly on the trials and tribulations of college students. Farcical and unrated its not supposed to be intelligent or overly thoughtful. Renting a movie with the logo on it basically suggests pure unadulterated fun with no intellectual strings attached.

This straight to DVD movie lacks any of the above. It lacks any sincere comedic effort, basically flooring it with knock-knock level jokes and disgusting sexual frat boy humour. The movie attempts therefore to delve more into creating a romantic drama with comedic interludes, but the story drags on with varying levels of clichéd crappiness. Only Chriqui does a commendable job at acting, whilst the rest give portrayals unworthy of high-school theatre.

Naturally all this could be forgiven had the movie been funny enough to distract from the overall ineptitude, but as mention the comedy is probably the weakest element in it. As such this is an unredeemable waste of time.

mix of a sweet romantic comedy and gross out humor
daniellemdubois27 August 2006
Adam & Eve is a guilty pleasure of mine. The movie is unusual in that it is a sweet and innocent love story mixed with gross out sex humor. Its definitely not your typical National Lampoon movie... its a little more classy and a lot more thoughtful. The guy humor is amazing. I've never seen a movie that comes close to realistically capturing the sex crazed, beer hungry college guy. Not every guy in college is as ridiculous as this, but trust me these guys existed. Cameron Douglas is ADORABLE. (I love the song he sings to Eve on their first date)And of course, Emanuelle Chiriqui is as lovable as ever. My only complaints are that the sorority girl stuff wasn't realistic and Eve's parents characters were annoying. (The acting was good. I just didn't like the way it was written). All in all, its a fun movie that gives you a little dose of love and laughter.

A Decent movie if you look at it 1 way, a rubbish movie if you look at it another.
lil-wellsy-lfc21 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I think that if you ignore the fact that this is a National Lampoons film and is thought of as a romantic film with some comical moments then this is one of the greatest romance films I have ever seen. Even though it is Adam and Eve as character names this is probably the first time I have ever thought that the romance in a film has been realistic because you could actually believe that they were together not this stupid stereotypical rubbish you see in all the other movies out there. Yes they probably would be more deserving of the National Lampoons name but at least someone has got the romance theme right for once. but then if you see this as a National Lampoons film then this is terrible because it is simply not funny enough. I am going to give this film 7 out of 10 for the fact that is 1 of the greatest romance films I have ever seen but due to the tag National Lampoons it has it doesn't get the 10 out of 10 it deserves. Of course some of you may not agree with me but if you follow the story and listen to the heartfelt emotions in the movie then you will see what I see and if your looking for a classic National Lampoons film then I'm sorry but you'll probably be disappointed.

Not an National Lampoon film
Animator60643218 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
If you are going into this film expecting a comedy, you'll get minimal laughs, if your expecting a decent romance, then you get even less romance. This film contains the lowest of low humor. I would call it toilet humor, but it isn't even graphic enough the get a reaction out of me. There is very little nudity in this film (if at all I can't really remember), which surprised my considering it is a national lampoon film. The film story is a simple one, a virgin dates a collage frat boy (all of whom are at least in their late 20s or early 30s by the way) and is pressured by him to have sex. He cheats and gets an std, she finds out etc. It is all pretty boring and has been done better but even a bad story can have some entertainment value. Sadly this is no existent. The frat's guys friend are very annoying. It's like the script directors wanted these characters to be funny, but couldn't think of anything other then gross out joke's.

The only character worth interest is the main female protagonist. You wonder why she is dating such an ass. There is a scene towards the end of the movie where she finds out something one of her parents did year's ago and freaks out on them. It was uncalled for and unnecessary in this scene. The acting is pretty awful in this film as shown by the main male "protagonist". I put that in quotes, because by the end of the film you well hate this character. There is a character named Patty who I found sort of interesting. I would have preferred seeing a movie about her.

So to conclude, the characters are crap, the story is a story we have seen all the time and the acting is pretty awful. The direction of this film is pretty okay and I have seen worse. At least I haven't seen any boom mike's or any camera's reflected through mirrors or windows. To bad it is wasted on a film shot on a digital camera. One can just feel the cheapness. I can't believe this yields the national Lampoon seal of approval.

What the.............????????
benhuntnever8 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes there is a reason that you have never heard of a particular title and this is one of those times. I never heard of this movie so I decided to give it a go. My mistake. Don't let the National Lampoon tag fool you, it sucks. It was about as funny as stubbing your toe on the coffee table. At least stubbing your toe quits hurting, this movie doesn't though. I did give it two stars just because there was a really hot "almost" sex scene with a girl named Patty.

I marked this review as having a spoiler because of mentioning the "almost" sex scene but believe me I am saving you the time of having to watch the movie to see it. This movie is definitely going to the crap stack.

Chriqui is the bright spot in this frat boy comedy
PeachHamBeach27 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I am only giving this one a 5 out of 10 because of all the disgusting frat boy humor. I can take frat boy humor, but in moderate amounts. I don't think many women want to know what a guy's balls smell like after at least a week of no bathing, anymore than a guy wants to know what a tampon left in for a week might smell like. Ugh! The one bright spot in this flawed comedy is Emmanuelle Chriqui. I don't know what draws her to so many frat boy comedies, but she is a very lovely, talented and charming actress who probably gets less respect that she deserves. She nails the realistic emotions of virgins everywhere. We were all virgins at one time, and it's true: For some reason, we just don't want to do it until that right, perfect (or as perfect as can be) moment comes. There are issues with intimacy, fear of being naked (figuratively, not physically) and the terror that once you open up and reveal your entire body and soul, that person will only betray you.

I don't know what attracted Eve to Adam at all. He was just another damaged-goods frat boy with so many tattoos that it only made him look trashy. His haggard face also suggest a really rough lifestyle that included too much booze and probably some drugs too. He and his roommates are a bunch of slobs who lay around all day drinking, eating junk and watching porn.

SPOILER AHEAD! It's just an opinion, but she was way too good for him and should not have even given him the time of day. Or maybe his tattoos and "rode hard and put away wet" appearance is what attracted her. As a character, Adam does seem sweet and sincere at times, but there just didn't seem to be anything that made him a standout. I didn't see anything special to fall for. He even cheats on Eve (or at least he thinks he did) with a gal that looks more to be his type, which is cheap and trashy.

If Chriqui hadn't been in this film, I probably wouldn't have bothered, as I have never heard of any of the other cast members, save Chad Lindberg, who I enjoy in most of his other stuff. I might have even liked the movie better if Lindberg had been the lead male role. At least he isn't an illustrated man.
