THEY CALL HIM CHOP SUEY is one of the odder 'Bruceploitation' films I've seen. This Filipino outing is about Chop Suey, a half Filipino, half Chinese guy who has a passing resemblance to Bruce Lee. He works fitfully in a low paid job, but soon becomes involved with criminal goons and puts his kung fu skills to the test. If you're familiar with Filipino genre cinema, you'll know to expect rock-bottom production values and the like, but this comedy is a little better than most. The first half is a bit slow and too centred in silly comedy, but in the second half it becomes a pure action movie with plenty of frenetic displays of fisticuffs and mayhem.
