"Der Sommer des glücklichen Narren" tells the story of a more or less succesful author of love stories, who just got divorced from his first wife when a beautiful woman strands in his house. While they quickly fall in love, his newly-married ex-wife and the daughter of his publisher, who has a crush on him, threaten to set their luck as a couple on risk.
The film is pretty much your basic tv love story. It mixes together some clichées, some rivalry between very different characters, a clear set of good and bad characters and the most family-friendly form of arousal. Some points don't really make sense (a broke author lives on a farm with several cows and horses..) but don't disturb the plot all too much. When the same conflict is rising again for the third time, it can become a bit redundant, but at least you can be sure to see a happy end.
All in all it doesn't hurt nobody and indeed you develop a sympathy for some of the characters, but it is clearly more a relaxing evening in front of the tv than it is great cinema by any means.
