Sex & Nudity

  • Highly sexualized female imagery, attire, costumes & mannerism.
  • A young teacher is said to be in a relationship with a high school student. Later on, we see someone walk in on them making out. In the same room, a male student accidentally walks in on two students making out. The girl is skimpily clothed, but hides away before seen by anyone. Embarrassed, the boy covers his private area as he is only in his underwear.
  • A girl cuts two holes in another girl's tank top so that her bra cups are visible. When the girl puts on the tank top and notices the two holes, she doesn't seem to care. Soon every girl at school seems to follow suit.
  • It is mentioned a few times that a woman "made out with a hotdog." She claims that it only happened once.
  • A teenager goes to a Halloween party dressed in a scary costume. When she shows up, she discovers that all the other girls use Halloween as an opportunity to get away with wearing immodest outfits. We see girls in various states of undress. No actual nudity is shown, but we do see a lot of revealing costumes.
  • At a party you can see two women making out. This is brief and isn't focused on for very long.
  • No nudity at all.
  • A teen boy asks a teen girl "has your muffin been buttered?" Another girl mentions the boy was suggesting that she have sex with him.
  • A high school teacher accidentally bumps into a student and gets something spilled on her pullover. She tries to take it off, inadvertently revealing her bra underneath. She pulls down her tank top over it, which is visibly see-through. She tells a man she will discuss something another time when her shirt isn't see-through.
  • A teenage girl attempts to get another girl in trouble by pretending to work for Planned Parenthood. She calls the girl's mother informing her that she has her daughter's pregnancy test results.
  • A teenage girl tells another girl that her perfume makes her smell like a prostitute.
  • A girl remarks about how another girl's gaining weight has made her grow "pretty big jugs."
  • A girl we suspect to be promiscuous examines her bottom in the mirror and moves her hand across it while fully clothed.
  • A teenager implies that she lost her virginity to a teenage boy, stating that she "gave him everything" and was "half a virgin" when she met him.
  • A teenage girl tells a boy that his girlfriend has been cheating on him. Later, his girlfriend sobbingly recounts that he broke up with her because someone told him about another boy she was with.
  • A teenaged girl tells her boyfriend that his hair looks sexy pushed back.
  • Frequent suggestive humor, including a girl getting hit in the chest with a ball while attempting to catch it. The girl later claims that she has a "5th sense" and can sense things with her breasts.
  • A girl dresses as a playboy bunny. However, this is not expressly stated.
  • A teen girl goes into different rooms of the house during a party and each room has teen couples making out (they're all only kissing; no sex or nudity). Sex is implied when an interrupting parent offers a condom.
  • A character's mother is said to have had breast implants; she's later seen greeting people, holding a dog who trying to bite her breast. At one point, the lead character looks down at her implants before receiving a hug from her and saying "Ow."
  • One reference to a condom (in non-sexual context).
  • A scene takes place in a sex ed class. There are a couple of references to STDs and getting pregnant. The teacher repeatedly tells the students to avoid having sex and offers free condoms at the end of the scene.
  • A teen couple briefly make out in a classroom.
  • A teenage girl tells someone that she ended a friendship with a girl she suspected of being lesbian. She didn't invite her to her pool party because there were girls there in their bathing suits. Another girl accuses the same girl (whose friend happens to be gay) of being a lesbian. Later, the accused girl jokingly claims she sabotaged someone because she must have a lesbian crush on her, adding "so suck on that."
  • In the background of one scene, a music video for Kelis's "Milkshake" plays on a TV from a distance; women in the video dance in revealing outfits. A little girl watches it and dances along with them. In another scene, a little girl in the background watches women flash themselves on TV. She copies them by pulling up her shirt the way they do. No nudity is shown as the screen is blurred. An older girl in the room notices this happen, but doesn't seem to care.

Violence & Gore

  • Two teenagers are discovered kissing each other in a bathroom. The girl slaps the boy in an effort to make it appear the kiss was nonconsensual.
  • A teenaged girl falls into trash can and screams while walking in a school hallway. Whether there are any injuries is left unclear.
  • Regina slaps Gretchen's hand, mostly offscreen and implied with sound.
  • High schoolers do the activity "trust fall" that entails one person falling backward onto a group of people as they catch her. One girl in particular (whom the others dislike) falls backward, and only one girl holds out her hands to catch her. Both girls topple onto the floor and appear slightly hurt.
  • Cady imagines a group of teenagers acting like animals near a fountain in a mall one of them tackles another into the fountain.
  • There is violence associated with bullying.

Profanity

  • In the background of a party scene, songs with some swearing can be faintly heard.
  • "Bitch" and "whore" are used frequently throughout; mostly said by teenage girls to and about other teenage girls.
  • Teenagers use the word "retarded." One scene involves the use of the N-word (spoken in Chinese, but shown in a translation.)
  • 'A-hole' is said once.
  • During the Plastic's Winter Talent Show Dance, their CD starts skipping, making it sound like its repeatedly saying "fuck." It quickly gets shut off (this is quite subtle).
  • On the Burn Book, Janis Ian was written as "Janis Ian - Dyke", a homophobic slur.
  • Frequent uses of slut.
  • Name-calling, including retard, sleaze, loser, skank, and hoebag.
  • Frequent religious exclamations, mainly "oh my god!"
  • A few uses of the word "suck."
  • 6 uses of ass and its derivatives
  • 4 uses of damn
  • A few uses of the R word.
  • Misuse of 1x 'God',
  • Milder language (hell, damn, shit, etc.) is also used.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Regina, Karen, Gretchen and Cady are handed drinks by Regina's mom. Cady, seemingly concerned, asks if there's alcohol in it and is told that there isn't. Regina's mom subtly condones underage drinking, replying that, if the girls choose to drink alcohol, she would rather they do it in the house than somewhere else.
  • There is a discussion among teenagers about a girl at school who is supposedly on crack.
  • In a party scene, high schoolers are seen holding red plastic cups; it's left unclear what's in them.
  • Adults drink wine at dinner.
  • A teacher is accused of selling drugs.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • In a deleted scene, Cady imagined Mrs. Norbury saying "Your parents have been eaten by cannibals" as the worst thing you can hear from any adult. In reality, she said the second worst which was "I'm really disappointed in you, Cady."
  • In an opening scene, photographs are shown of Cady's father with a massive snake, including one of the snake draped across his shoulders. Some (especially squeamish people) may find the photos repulsive.
  • Cady vomits onto Aaron, not graphic and mostly offscreen. He is shown walking quickly away and trying to brush the disgorged matter off of his clothes.
  • There is a lot of bullying.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Regina George gets hit by a bus. No blood, she turns out okay, and meant for comedic effect. Although it is implied she broke some bones in the process.
  • The whole school breaks up fighting over something a bully wrote about some students. They all punch, hit and kick each other. There were some injuries.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A bus is shown hitting people three times. Twice it is shown as just imagination. The third time, the main villain is shown having a serious back injury, but she survives. This may be intense for some viewers. (Especially those who may have had an accident where they were hit by a vehicle)
