It's a board game which uses a movie to make the game more exciting.
The movie is one hour long. You play the game and try to beat the clock: if the movie runs for its full length, you lose.
Your characters move around a playing board on a circuit. You must collect various items by landing on appropriate squares, or taking them from other players when permitted to do so, in order to "access the bridge" (the only time at which your character leaves the main circuit) and win the game.
The movie will occasionally instruct a particular player to draw a card, go to sick bay (and miss a turn), or experience some other usually negative effect.
The movie features a Klingon who has taken control of the Enterprise, and has launched it for a one-hour flight with only him and yourselves (the skeleton crew) on board. After watching a few minutes of film to set up this situation, you will spend most of the time watching a star field passing by, and a clock timer. However, occasionally the Klingon will 'detect' you, in which case play stops. He will identify (and often insult) a particular player, often "the player who is moving now". He will then give instructions which will affect that player, usually negatively.
Also, some of the cards that players collect permit them to take certain actions only when the clock reaches a particular time.
