Even though the Harry Potter fever is going to be with us for a long time, and it’s supported by the upcoming HBO series, there are some moments that aren’t talked about enough. While discussing the most iconic scenes of the wizards’ saga, the fandom forgets the ones which also reveal the characters’ nature and their relationships.
Here are 4 of the most neglected scenes of the whole Hp franchise.
The Sorcerer's Stone - The Troll
The first installment of the movie series is quick to show us that the notorious school of Witchcraft and Wizardry is not the safest place on Earth. Then it shows the first scary creature threatening the characters - a nasty troll entering the girls' bathroom, where Hermione ends up. It is this very fight against the monster that binds the franchise’s trio and marks the beginning of their adventures in the world of magic.

The Wizarding World never ceases to amaze with its magical appeal. This applies not only to millennials who have been exposed to the Harry Potter ongoing books and movies as children, but also to younger generations as today's kids are no less delighted to read J.K. Rowling's books and watch the films.
Speaking of the latter, the Warner Bros. film series wouldn't be nearly as magical without the cast, who have been the source of many laughs, tears... and bloopers! Here are 10 of the most hilarious on-set errors from the Harry Potter movies.

Daniel Radcliffe will forever be known as the ‘Boy Who Lived’ as he played the character of Harry Potter in the adaptation of Jk Rowling’s fantasy novels. The actor grew up with the Harry Potter franchise, beginning his tenure at the age of 12. Since the franchise ended, he has been experimenting with his roles and has starred in a long list of indie films.
Radcliffe mentioned that though he is grateful for all that the Harry Potter films gave him, he almost considered leaving it midway through the franchise. He said how he was having second thoughts as his life had changed since he was cast in the films. However, he decided against it and saw the franchise through to its end.

7. The Marauders Sending Their Regards
In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry first gets his hands on the Marauder’s Map — an artifact that genuinely bothers Severus Snape when he gets a hold of it. Snape’s attempt to unlock the Map didn’t work out quite well: just like in his school days, the Marauders just humiliated him through snarky and witty messages.
6. Hermione Clowning on Her Stalker
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Hermione Granger had one of her most unhinged moments. After having been bullied by a reporter Rita Skeeter for the entire school year, Hermione finally learned her stalker’s secret and locked her in a jar in her Animagi form, effectively holding the reporter hostage and torturing her.

It’s no one’s news that the Harry Potter movies, no matter how great they are in other regards, utterly ruined some of the books’ most amazing characters. Thankfully, HBO is cooking up a full reboot in the form of a TV show, so we can only hope its showrunners will care more about portraying the characters closer to the source material.
Because even years later, Potterheads can’t forgive the movies for butchering the future Mrs. Potter — first and foremost, by presenting her as nothing but the future Mrs. Potter.
Book Ginny Weasley Was Straight-Up Iconic
In the Harry Potter books, we don’t get to learn Ginny Weasley as her own person until The Order of the Phoenix — but when we do, boy is she a delight to be around! Ginny is the picture-perfect strong female character: she’s brave, fun, smart, and independent. And also, she...

From a young and tender age, Harry Potter developed a phenomenal ability to cleverly insult or strike back at people he didn’t like. Some of the best one-liners in books and movies came from him, and especially with folks like Snape and Umbridge, Harry never felt the need to hold back, coming up with the most venomous punches and replies.
And yet, one time, the Chosen One chose the wrong comeback for Umbridge.
Umbridge Set the Trap for Herself
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Professor Umbridge’s first Defense Against Dark Arts lesson with Gryffindor didn’t go according to plan whatsoever. The students openly rebelled against her “Ministry-approved plan” of locking them behind textbooks and disabling them from actively practicing the spells they’ll be learning.
Losing more patience by the second, Umbridge engaged in a heated discussion of her methods with the class — and at one point,...

Don’t get us wrong, we all love our fair share of fan service in movies and TV shows. It’s always nice to see some familiar faces (or hear familiar names) as it makes any fictional world feel more interconnected and brings that silly warm feeling of comfort and nostalgia. We have decidedly nothing against a little bit of fan service.
But we do mind unnecessary, inexcusable, and utterly stupid timeline decisions.
Professor McGonagall Appeared in The Crimes of Grindelwald
The Fantastic Beasts movies were thriving on fan service — or rather, they would have been thriving on fan service if they could offer anything apart from fan service. There was no way in the world to tell a story about Grindelwald and Dumbledore without, well, Dumbledore himself, sure; but having Jude Law play the man who canonically looks 50 years older in a few in-universe years’ time was… Rather daft.

Emma Watson, known for her role in the enormously successful Harry Potter series, raised an eyebrow when Warner Bros. decided to split the final film into two parts. Despite the hefty paycheck involved, Watson couldn’t shake off suspicions that the move was nothing but a cash grab. It seemed like Warner Bros. was capitalizing on the hype, leaving the actress feeling a bit skeptical about the whole situation.

Documentary fans have a lot to be excited about this month on HBO and Max. April begins with the premiere of The Synanon Fix, a docuseries that follows the rise and fall of the cult-like drug rehabilitation program Synanon. Film about actor who played the father of Neville Longbottom feels like The Office meets Withnail, though doesn’t really dig deeply into its subject
Who is James Payton? The simple answer is that James Payton is a jobbing actor. You’ve probably seen him in something. His two claims to some kind of fame are blink-and-you’ll-miss-em parts in a couple of franchises: Neville Longbottom’s dad in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Hitler in the first Captain America movie. Payton’s other credits include “geography lecturer” in The Crown and “wasted guy” in a terrible Jonathan Pryce thriller from 2005. The two franchises, however, have opened the door to a nice little side hustle: regional fan conventions where Payton sells signed photos of himself for £10.
The film follows him around the “cons”, where franchise fans queue to get a selfie with Harry Potter’s mate’s dad.

It seems like only yesterday that movie audiences watched actress Evanna Lynch portray Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter film series. The Luna Lovegood character was introduced in the film series in the fifth installment film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). By all standards, being cast as Luna Lovegood was a career-defining role for the young actress. The first book in the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" ("Sorcerer's Stone" here in the States) was first published in June of 1997. It was written by author J.K. Rowling, long before she had been driven mad by an infuriating streak of unabashed transphobia that she insists on adhering to. Thanks to years of bigoted screaming, Rowling's legacy has been wholly tainted, and it's hard to read her lighthearted children's fantasy books without thinking of her poisonous worldview. If one checks out the Harry Potter books from the library, however, one can still enjoy the adventures and complex Wizarding World of Harry Potter without giving Rowling another dime.
Before her mind snapped open in public, however, the Harry Potter books — and their subsequent movie adaptations — were widely beloved. The title character was an impoverished 11-year-old who was forced to live in a closet with his abusive aunt and uncle.

Gary Oldman had a confession to make when he appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast: He is not a fan of his performances as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise. Sitting down with the media journalist during the last days of 2023, Oldman was in good spirits when he admitted, “I think my work is mediocre in [those movies].”
Oldman is referring specifically to when he appeared as the Wizarding World’s most notorious escaped convict, and surprise godfather of Harry Potter, in the films Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007).

Hollywood actor Gary Oldman, whose streaming series ‘Slow Horses’ returned for a third season last month, critiqued his performance as Sirius Black in the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise on the latest episode of Josh Horowitz’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast.
Gary Oldman, 65, thinks his portrayal of the beloved Harry Potter character was “mediocre”, reports People magazine.
After telling Horowitz, “I think my work is mediocre in it,” the Oscar winner said he believes he could have performed the role “differently”.

Updated with latest: The two-year-old lawsuit between Bohemian Rhapsody writer Anthony McCarten and the producers of the Oscar-winning film is over.
On Halloween, lawyers for the two-time Oscar-nominated scribe filed “request for dismissal” paperwork in Los Angeles Superior Court. The document asks that McCarten’s November 2021 profits action against the Graham King-run Gk Films LLC and production company Wagw Inc. over the blockbuster biopic be dismissed “with prejudice.”
This ends for good the lawsuit in which McCarten sought to be paid the 5% of Gk’s profits he says he was promised for writing the Freddie Mercury film. No information on any settlement or other details were made public in the October 31 filing.
As Queen themselves once sang: “Easy come, easy go, little high, little low.”

Fantastic Beasts filmmaker David Yates told Total Film that the Harry Potter spinoff feature franchise “is parked.”
That’s a very similar message to what he told us back at TIFF, however, that was in regards to his involvement with the overall Harry Potter franchise..
We’ve reached out to Warner Bros to get an update on whether the J.K. Rowling spinoff features are truly on ice; the author originally announcing on a pre-fan day for the film back in 2016 with producer David Heyman that the plan was for five Fantastic Beasts movies, set in five different cities.
Fantastic Beasts followed the adventures of writer Newt Scamander (who penned one of Harry Potter’s textbooks) in New York’s secret community of witches and wizards.

David Yates reveals it was ‘a total surprise’ to learn that the Harry Potter author had planned for five films, and says there have been no in-depth conversations about making more
The Harry Potter spin-off prequel series Fantastic Beasts has been “parked” by Warner Bros, according to its director David Yates.

Before the “Harry Potter” films, there were J.K. Rowling’s books. The first book, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” was published in 1997. Nearly 26 years later, eleven films, one reunion special and a Universal experience dedicated to the magical Wizarding World have grown out of Rowling’s literary staple in childhood fiction.
Any time of year is time for a Harry Potter movie marathon. Although USA and Syfy come in real handy around the holidays when they put on their Harry Potter movie marathons, the films are also streaming online year-round.

Michael Gambon, a protégé of Laurence Olivier and giant of the British stage who portrayed Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, apparently with little effort, in the final six Harry Potter movies, has died. He was 82.
“The Great Gambon,” as Ralph Richardson once called him, died “peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia,” according to a family statement provided Thursday by a publicist.
Among the first group of actors recruited by Olivier for the National Theatre Company in the early 1960s, Gambon, a Dublin native, was nominated 13 times for an Olivier Award, winning in 1986 and ’90 for Alan Ayckbourn’s A Chorus of Disapproval and Man of the Moment, respectively, and in 1988 for Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge.

Podcast producer Glisten+ (a portmanteau of “great” and “listen”) launched Tuesday with two initial programs, part of a larger slate of scripted fare that it plans to roll out in the coming months.
The first original series include the young adult-geared “Can’t Relax,” about a relaxation app that secretly places murderous messages into the brains of its teen listeners. The supernatural thriller features Olivia Trujillo (“For All Mankind”), Andre Robinson (“Cheaper by the Dozen”) and Patrick Labyorteaux (“NCIS”).
The other show is fantasy adventure “League of Wonder,” which follows a Yorkshire terrier who teams up with a rag-tag group of animal heroes to rescue Dorothy Gale and a pair of magical slippers. The show stars Donovan Patton (“Blue’s Clues), Makgotso M (“The Woman King”), Eric Petersen (“Kevin Can F**k Himself”) and Robbie Jarvis (“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”).

David Yates probably knows as much about the Wizarding World as anyone, but will he be returning for the upcoming Harry Potter TV series?
David Yates was asked that very question by Deadline, and his response leaves the door open while not committing to anything. “Never say never,” Yates said. The director first boarded the franchise with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and went on to helm Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One and Two. He also returned for the Fantastic Beasts franchise, directing all three films in the spin-off series. “I started on Potter in 2005, so it’s been an amazing journey,” Yates added.
The last installment of the Fantastic Beasts series, The Secrets of Dumbledore, was a box-office bomb and the lowest-grossing film in the entire Wizarding World franchise. Although the franchise was meant to include five movies,...

When it comes to Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts franchise filmmaker David Yates returning to the Max TV series, he tells Deadline, “Never say never.”
Yates was at our TIFF studio talking up his new Netflix movie, Pain Hustlers, starring Chris Evans and Emily Blunt, which made its world premiere at the fest.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that Max was making a Harry Potter TV series back in April at the streamer’s press day, one which would revisit the iconic books over the course of a decade-long series. When the series was made official earlier this spring, a search for a showrunner was underway in addition to a fresh-face cast. J.K. Rowling and longtime confederates Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts are exec producing. David Heyman, who developed the films, was in talks to do the same. Rowling’s Brontë Film and TV is producing with Warner Bros. Television.

In the Harry Potter movies, the evil villain Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) is obsessed with racial purity. It seems that magical ability is a genetic trait in the Wizarding World, and two magical parents typically have magical children. Occasionally, though, magical children will be born to non-magical -- or muggle -- parents. Voldemort sought to murder any children with muggle blood and leave only his wicked Death Eater cult standing. The films' dark themes of eugenics aren't too openly discussed in dialogue, however, and none of the Harry Potter characters draw a parallel between Voldemort and, say, Adolf Hitler. They're too busy evading capture and seeking magical Horcruxes to stop and talk.
One of Voldemort's disciples is a wicked witch named Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter), who is introduced while serving a hefty sentence in Azkaban prison. In the series' fifth film -- David Yates' "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix...

The demon Valak, aka The Nun, is among the most infamous faces in "The Conjuring" universe. Aside from perhaps the doll Annabelle, Valak's image looms over the franchise more than any other. According to a lawsuit put forth by actress Bonnie Aarons (via The Hollywood Reporter), who played the character in "The Conjuring 2," "The Nun," and "The Nun 2," the character shows up on official merch a lot, too. Now, Aarons is asking for a cut of royalties she says she's owed, alleging via a suit obtained by THR that Warner Bros. has been exploiting her "talent, creativity, and likeness."

Wednesday isn’t a day like Tuesday, where there are cheap tickets up for sale, but that didn’t stop Warner Bros.’ Barbie from continuing its daily weekday $20M+ streak.
The Greta Gerwig-directed feature grossed $23M yesterday, -12% from Tuesday, sending its six-day running total to $237.1M. America’s No. 1 doll definitely is crossing $300M this weekend, with an expected $70M+ second frame. If she does so in fewer than 10 days, Barbie will be the fastest female-demo feature to cross the three-century mark. Disney’s Beauty and the Beast holds that record at 10 days.
Barbie didn’t set any Wednesday records, but who cares? The movie made over $20M yesterday! Among Warner Bros’ top Wednesdays, Barbie is fifth after Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies and The Matrix Revolutions.
Universal’s Oppenheimer took in $10.6M, -12% from Tuesday, for a running total of $117.8M. Through six days, Oppenheimer is running 69% ahead of Chjristopher Nolan’s Dunkirk at the same point in time. Dunkirk ended its domestic run at $188M in 2017.

For those of us just figuring that out, below is a rundown of pricing, programs, how the service differs from sister streamer Discovery+ and also what to do if you’re an HBO cable subscriber to wants to access Max.

Before both Marvel and DC created their respective expanded cinematic universes, "The Avengers" changed the way studios approach major franchises, and Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" trilogy had even concluded, there was "Green Lantern." The 2011 box office bomb is a black sheep in the 2010s' superhero storm, often derided as an sloppy, corny mess that's more soap opera than space opera. Pre-"Deadpool" star Ryan Reynolds himself is keenly aware of how much of a mess the film is and attributes its critical and financial failures to an overzealous, overinflated special effects budget that eclipsed any drive to craft an engaging story with compelling characters.
The generic, soulless "Green Lantern" reeks of studio interference; the result of Hollywood executives looking to make a flashy, inoffensive product appropriate for mass audience consumption. Puzzlingly, Warner Bros. took the opposite approach it did with Nolan's highly auteurist "Batman" films and manhandled...

The Harry Potter franchise is a global phenomenon that has persisted since the final book was released and after its last movie hit theaters. Despite this, it thrives in multiple forms, including theme parks (Universal Studios Butterbeer anyone?), freeform marathons, video games, and re-readable novels.

Hollywood quickly jumped on board, with the first film released less than one year following the release of the fourth novel. Surprisingly made all the more impressive due to having eight films under their belt without sacrificing character or story continuity; there’s not an outright bad movie amongst them either. Jk Rowling herself contributed creative input for each installment bringing unique flavors and keeping the series alive over a decade later.

This post contains spoilers for "John Wick: Chapter 4" and the later "Harry Potter" films.
In "John Wick: Chapter 4," John Wick (Keanu Reeves) must reunite with his estranged family in order to finally rid himself of the High Table and remove the sizable bounty on his head. When he visits his family, however, he has a rude reunion with Katia Jovanovich, Wick's long-lost adoptive sibling who is played by none other than actor Natalia Tena. Clad in leather and covered in prison ink tattoos, Jovanovich is a leader of the Ruska Roma assassins last seen in "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum."
Tena is a veteran of several high-profile film franchises and blends into her new tough role so completely that it's a little hard to place her at first. She makes a lasting impression in the supposed final fourth chapter of the series, and she may even turn up...

The delight of the John Wick franchise lies squarely in its weirdness. The film series famously kicked off with mercenary protagonist and certified wife guy John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves, avenging his dog. But as John’s thirst for vengeance dwindled, the screenwriters decided to surround him with bloodthirsty weirdos rather than kill more of his loved ones. Even better, the films are aware of their own strangeness, lending a campy joy to even the dourest deeds.
The franchise is at its bizarre best in “John Wick 4,” written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch and directed, as always, by former stuntman Chad Stahelski. The wild world of assassins is more esoteric, the cinematography and choreography more stunning. Though the film stretches to an audacious 169 minutes — just under three hours — if you surrender yourself to the gorgeous silliness of the Wickiverse, it goes by in a fist-flying flash.

A Harry Potter star has jumped to the defence of Jk Rowling.
For years now, the author has courted contoversy with her views on transgender rights.
It appeared to start in June 2020 when she called out an article’s use of the phrase “people who menstruate”.
This tweet divided Twitter users. While there was a contingent who supported Rowling, there were many – including numerous celebrities – who criticised her comment as “anti-trans” and “transphobic”, arguing that transgender, non-binary and non-gender conforming people can also menstruate.
In an essay, the author addressed the backlash while also detailing her experiences of surviving alleged domestic abuse and sexual assault.
The essay sparked further criticism and many actors from the Harry Potter franchise, including Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have since voiced their support for trans people.
Now, Luna Lovegood star Evanna Lynch has shared her views on the mater. At the time,...

Despite his protestations that he shouldn't be treated "like the Medusa or the Lincoln Memorial," Jack Nicholson exudes exactly that kind of mythical aura. Before he gave up acting around 2010, he was on top of his game for decades, stringing hit movies together since the '60s and watching his star inexorably rise in the process. In the late '80s, with two Academy Awards under his belt, producer Jon Peters asked Nicholson to star as The Joker in Warner Bros. "Batman." The actor was in a position to demand pretty much whatever he wanted in exchange for lending his magnetic persona to Tim Burton's take on the Dark Knight.
Ever the cunning and intelligent thespian, Nicholson had a plan from the start, based on his intuition that "Batman" was going to become a cultural phenomenon -- even before a single scene was shot. As he said in a making-of documentary,...
