Horror delights, rom-coms and a new sci-fi series starring Christoph Waltz are just a few of the highlights arriving on Amazon Prime Video in February. This month sees the debut of the second and final season of “Carnival Row” on Feb. 17, while Feb. 24 is when “The Consultant” – a “Severance”-like thriller series starring Waltz and directed by “WandaVision’s” Matt Shakman – drops.
In terms of new original Prime Video movies, on Feb. 10 there’s “Somebody I Used to Know,” a romantic comedy starring Alison Brie who co-wrote the script with her husband Dave Franco (who serves as director).
And you’ll find last year’s buzzy horror hit “Smile” on the streaming service on Feb. 21, while “Mad Max: Fury Road” filmmaker George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” arrives on Feb. 17.
That’s not to mention noteworthy library additions like “A.I.,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “Almost Famous.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

The first of the month is typically when the variety of streaming services on offer bolster their respective libraries with a mixture of original and pre-existing content, freshening things up for subscribers in the process. January 1st also happens to be the first day of 2021, though, so people might be expecting a little more than just a handful of new additions, and HBO Max are stepping up to the plate in a big way.
Of course, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to entice millions to sign up for Warner Bros.’ platform, especially when the entire slate of theatrical releases are also heading to the streaming site on the same day that they hit the big screen. And keen to capitalize on the inevitable influx of new customers, HBO Max is adding a massive amount of film and television titles on January 1st, with the onslaught set to continue over the next 30 days.

Call it too little, too late. For 20th Century Fox's The Transporter 2 broke Labor Day weekend boxoffice opening records, bowing to $20.1 million for the four-day holiday frame. The actioner buoyed the last weekend of summer to an up close despite theater closures throughout Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. But it did little to boost the overall summer boxoffice, which at the official end of summer stands at $6.07 billion compared to last year's $6.57 billion. Universal Pictures' The 40-Year-Old Virgin held on tight for its third week, dropping to the second spot but earning an impressive $16.5 million for the four-day frame. Universal's specialty division Focus Features had a successful bow with its Ralph Fiennes suspense thriller, The Constant Gardener, which earned $10.8 million. The Fernando Meirelles-directed film bowed Wednesday, putting its six-day cume at $12.5 million. The other two wide releases generated little heat at the boxoffice. Miramax's Underclassman, starring Nick Cannon, barely made the grade with moviegoers, earning a paltry $3 million, and it didn't get into the top 10 despite opening in more than 1,100 theaters. Warner Bros. Pictures' A Sound of Thunder was quiet as a mouse with a $1.1 million opening and a No. 17 ranking for Labor Day weekend.
Ending a downbeat summer boxoffice season on an unexpectedly upbeat note, 20th Century Fox's action-powered Transporter 2 drove Labor Day weekend returns above those of the previous year by a solid 16%. Although distributors reported losing playdates throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama in areas still contending with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, nationwide, audiences were apparently in the mood for escapism as they climbed aboard Transporter 2 while continuing to support Universal Pictures' The 40-Year-Old Virgin, which stepped down to second place after two weekends in the top slot. At the same time, more sophisticated moviegoers sought out Focus Features' The Constant Gardener, a suspense thriller, which registered a strong third-place showing. Two other national openings, however, barely caused a ripple. Miramax Films' Underclassman enrolled $3.1 million for the four days. And Warner Bros. Pictures' A Sound of Thunder didn't make a sound with just $1.2 million.

The sequel, produced by Europa Corp.'s Luc Besson and Steve Chasman and written by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, came close to matching the $25.3 million the first film collected during its entire domestic run.
