National Geographic maps out its schedule
Eight new primetime series will join National Geographic Channel's schedule in 2004-05, the cable network said Thursday at its first upfront. A joint venture between News Corp. and National Geographic Society, the channel is intent on expanding its audience with a broad mix of programs tied to its classic brand. The series include Seconds From Disaster, which analyzes the moments leading up to tragic accidents including the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown, and Interpol, a chronicle of crime-fighting efforts by the global police group. The network also has additional seasons of existing series on the way, including Taboo, Living Wild, Be the Creature and Mysteries of the Deep.
