There’s nothing we love more here on Dread than practical monster effects, which unfortunately have fallen by the wayside in favor of CGI. But it’s the fans who are keeping that old school spirit alive, and there are perhaps none… Continue Reading →

One of our favorite Diy Monster Makers, Spain's Freakland Shop, has joined forces with original Jason Voorhees portrayer Ari Lehman for a Limited Edition bust depicting the first ever screen appearance of the legendary Friday the 13th boogeyman. Measuring approximately 7 inches high, the hand-sculpted and hand-painted polyresin statuette depicts Jason at the moment he bursts from beneath the still waters of Crystal Lake – that unforgettable shock that helped kick-start one of horror's most enduring franchises. The bust comes complete with one of two collector's card options (buyer's choice), both signed by Lehman in silver marker. Get over to Freakland Shop pronto before they're gone... and don't forget to check out their equally cool bust depicting the gruesome “drill scene” from Lucio Fulci's The Gates of Hell, signed by actor John Morghen!

If you missed our previous Diy Monster Makers features on the amazing hand-sculpted collectibles from Freakland Shop, it's high time you got onboard with their latest creations... like this awesome polyresin replica depicting one of the most notorious scenes from Lucio Fulci's gore epic City of the Living Dead, known stateside as The Gates of Hell. That's right, we're talking about the infamous power-drill-through-the-head death of poor “Bob” (Giovanni Lombardo Radice, a.k.a. John Morghen) at the hands of his lady-friend's vengeful father... here's that scene, if you need a refresher: The hand-sculpted, hand-painted vinyl busts (roughly 5” tall) are limited to a run of 500 numbered units, each accompanied by one of two styles of movie cards, autographed by Morghen himself. Visit Freakland Shop for ordering info, and be sure to check out our previous feature to see more of their excellent horror replicas.

Back in February, we kicked off our Diy Monster Makers feature series with a look at the work of uniquely talented artist Gabe Lapeer, a sculptor, graphic designer and illustrator who had launched a Facebook page to showcase his custom designs, sculptures and action figures “with a slant towards the dark and gruesome.” Now you've got more opportunities to purchase Lapeer's twisted creations through his “Homemade Horror” store on Storenvy. The inventive genre-bending “Karbonite Killers” series is still available (sold both as single figures and sets), as well as the “Custom Crazies” figures, a line of hand-painted cast resin miniatures (most under 6”) with custom bases, all signed by the artist. The collection includes Belial from Basket Case, various “Crites” from Critters, the title beasties from Troll and Ghoulies, and kid victim “Little Buddy” from Halloween III.

At FM, we love creator success stories. Monster makers who get to do what they love for a living. Musicians who turn pet projects into worldwide phenomena. Writers and actors who give everything to a project they truly believe in. When FM was first launched, it took years for creators to get the exposure they needed to keep going.
Fortunately, sites like Kickstarter now allow that kind of promotion to happen in a matter of days, which seem to have been the case with Agent 88. An avalanche of audience interest in the past week has sent the web series about an aged assassin snowballing towards its projected production goal. It’s the little series that could, continually revving its martial arts-fueled engine of comic book style awesomeness.
A month ago, it was difficult to get a project like Agent 88 off the ground, with its edgy concept and distinct tongue-in-cheek approach to assassination.

The Dog Who Saved Halloween I have to say that I love horror movies. Of course, that means I love Halloween as well! It's like Christmas for me. Also, I have to say I really love family movies as well. So when a film comes around that combines all three, I am in heaven. Sure, these types of films are usually as corny as all get out, but that's what I love about them! Years past saw films such as Monster Makers starring scream queen Linda Blair, Monster Night starring Matthew Lawrence or The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It featuring Tobin Bell. This year we get "The Dog Who Saved Halloween"! Of course it comes complete with the exact type of cast you would expect of this type film: Gary Valentine (The King of Queens), Dean Cain (The Broken Hearts Club), Elisa Donovan (Clueless), Lance Henriksen (Pumpkinhead), Joseph Lawrence...

Greetings Fango Fiends! Psycho Bunny here with another look back at the past seven days of deliciously blood-drenched horror goodness. While many of you will be plopped in front of the tele later today soaking your livers in alcohol, munching cheap snacks like a glutton on holiday, watching men fight over the inflatable pigskin, Pb will be enjoying Black Sunday instead. No, not the 1960 Mario Bava classic, but John Frankenheimer's 1977 film about an attack on the Superbowl. Sure it was Miami as opposed to Tampa Bay, but who cares about logistics? That said, let's delve into a look back at the past week in horror, broken down by category into easy to digest little nuggets of death!
