Chicago – Is “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” still as popular as it was when I was in college? For years there, “Holy Grail” and “Meaning of Life” were on constant rotation in dorm rooms around the country. Want to know why “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” has been on constant rotation for nearly four decades? Just watch five minutes of it. The movie would be one of the funniest of 2012 if it were released today. “It’s just a flesh wound!” Monty Python and the Holy Grail, one of our favorite movies from the British comedy troupe, looks like it’s coming to high-definition soon. Amazon has Monty Python and the Holy Grail available for pre-order on Blu-ray, although distributor Sony Pictures Home Entertainment hasn’t released official details yet.
The 1975 film directed by Terry Gilliam (The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus) and Terry Jones (Life of Brian) follows King Arthur and his knights — Sir Galahad the Pure, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Bedevere and Sir Robin the Not Quite So Brave As Sir Lancelot — as they search for the Holy Grail on a limited budget, substituting servants banging coconuts for horses. All the Monty Python team are on hand: John Cleese, Michael Palin, Eric Idle and Graham Chapman playing multiple roles, as well as Cleese’s ex-wife and Fawlty Towers co-star Connie Booth as the witch.
