Sex & Nudity

- Sybil and Kelly are shown lying together in bed. She unbuttons her shirt, he strokes her chest, and sex is implied.
- Sybil and Kelly put Everett and Meredith in the same bedroom when they come to visit. They just assume that they are already sleeping together, and it does not even faze them, but it bothers Meredith, who refuses to sleep in the same bed with Everett in his parents' home.
- Sybil makes a comment about how her youngest daughter, Amy, had a former boyfriend named Brad who "popped her cherry" (e.g. took her virginity). Amy is clearly embarrassed as her mother tells Meredith the story. Sybil says "The poor guy's still holding out. Guess he got a taste of something he liked". Later in the movie, Meredith gets drunk, meets Brad at a bar, and says "Aren't you the guy who popped Amy's cherry"?
- Meredith wakes up after a long night of drinking in her fiance's brother's bed. It is presumed that she might not be wearing any clothes, although she is under the covers, so we don't see anything. She is horrified at the thought that she slept with Ben. It is later revealed that this didn't happen, but because of the alcohol, Meredith doesn't remember.
- Amy and Brad start making out in a scene. Later, when her brother-in-law shows up, he asks his wife, "Who's the guy Amy's making out with in the ambulance"?
- At a family dinner, Sybil starts talking about how she secretly wished all her sons would turn out gay, so they would never leave her. One of the sons, Ben, makes a casual joke, "I'm queer, I'm here"! Not understanding that they are all just joking (and a little drunk), Meredith questions Sybil about this, claiming that she doesn't believe any mother would actually want that for their child. Meredith openly states her opinion that people who are gay are "challenged" and that any parent would want their child to be "normal".
Violence & Gore

- There is some mild comic violence in this film, mostly in one scene where Everett attacks Ben because he thinks he slept with Meredith. They chase each other through the house, knock over the entire table of food in the kitchen, wrestle with each other on the floor, and try to slap each other in the face.
- Meredith's sister Julie completely wipes out while she is getting off the bus in one scene. She misses the first step and falls a fairly far distance, right on her face. Blood isn't actually shown, but the family is seen fussing over her in the next scene and giving her Band-Aids for some scrapes on her arm.
- Meredith's car rolls down a snowbank when she is trying to drive away quickly. The car eventually comes to a stop, though, and she is unharmed.
Profanity

- 1 use of shit, asshole and hell 2 uses of goddamn 4 uses of oh my god
- There are infrequent uses of strong language such as "shit," "goddamn," "asshole," and "bitch,", "goddamn in particualer, while mild profanities are used a bit more frequently. Sexual references/innuendo appear throughout the film, as well as numerous drug references, mostly to marijuana (using the slang term "pot.")
- One of the Stone children is deaf, so the family speaks in sign language a lot of the time. Sybil signs a certain profanity at one point, which her young granddaughter immediately points out, but it is never revealed what the word was. The little girl just says, "Grandma signed something bad".
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

- Ben and his father are seen hanging out at a football field and eating brownies. It is implied they had just finished "smoking pot" in the following scene.
- Ben takes Meredith to a bar at one point in the movie. They start off just drinking beers casually, but then Meredith gets very drunk and starts dancing and behaving erratically. She even suggests that they go find some pot to smoke.
- The Stone family is shown drinking socially at family meals and such. It is implied that alcohol is involved when a heated argument erupts during dinner in one scene.
Frightening & Intense Scenes

- The Stone family has quite a few arguments throughout the movie, particularly in one scene midway through, when Meredith unintentionally causes a heated fight at the dinner table. Sybil screams and shouts "God damn you!" to Meredith, and Kelly slams his hand down on the table and says "That's enough!" It can be intense to watch.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
- A main character is revealed to have cancer. There are some emotional scenes that follow as certain family members find out about this character's condition. It is revealed at the end that the character, Sybil, died, and the family is shown celebrating their first Christmas without her.
