With both The Hatton Garden Job in UK cinemas now, and We Still Steal the Old Way available on DVD from today, I thought i’d take a look at my favourite Top Five Heist/Crime Caper Movies… In order (for a change) they are:
5) In Security
In Security tells the story of best friends Kevin and Bruce, who are co-owners of a failing home security company in a town with no crime. As a last ditch effort to drum up some business, they start robbing the neighbors to instill fear and create a need for their services but bullets fly when they unwittingly rob the wrong guy – a suburban drug lord with a penchant for kitchen gadgets.
It’s fair to say I love a good goofball crime caper, but In Security however has much more than being just a “crime caper” going for it. For one it stars one of my favourite actors,...

With Cable set to make his presence felt in Deadpool 2, it makes at least some sense that X-Force will show up in the Merc with the Mouth's third solo outing. Of course, we have no idea as of right now whether that's simply going to introduce the team or actually serve as a replacement for their long rumoured movie, but the group making their big screen debut is definitely long overdue at this point. 6 Foolproof Ways To Reboot The X-men Franchise After The Apocalypse Now, some new fan-art by @Bosslogic imagines what Ryan Reynolds will look like suited up in the grey and black costume he wore during Rick Remender's critically acclaimed X-Force run. Whether or not the heroes will have a uniform like that when they appear on the big screen remains to be seen, but the image below proves that it's a style which would definitely...

Below Zero
Stars: Edward Furlong, Michael Berryman, Kristin Booth | Written by Signe Olynyk | Directed by Justin Thomas Ostensen
“Based on true events, Below Zero is a thriller with a ‘Fargo’ feel. It is the story of ‘Jack the Hack’, a less than average, but once successful screenwriter who now faces writer’s block. Desperate to meet a career-saving deadline and lock out the distractions of his troubled life, Jack arranges to be left alone and locked inside a meat cooler, with only vegetarian meals and his imagination to inspire him. As the temperature drops, the lines between reality and fiction blur, and Jack’s script comes dangerously to life. Will he make the most important deadline of his career? Or is Jack ‘just a hack’?”
Below Zero was penned by Signe Olynyk who apparently spent five days in a meat locker writing the screenplay for the film after experiencing a...

Stars: Patrick Dempsey, Ashley Judd, Tim Blake Nelson, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Octavia Spencer, Mekhi Phifer | Written by Jon Lucas, Scott Moore | Directed by Rob Minkoff
There have been many heist movies over the years, some great, some not so great and some just plain unseen. One of my favourite heist flicks of all time is the little-seen Foolproof, which is a quirky action comedy about a gang of “theoretical” bank robbers who plan heists to perfection but never actually carry them out – that is until one day their plans for a jewellery heist are stolen and used by a real thief, played by the UK’s very own David Suchet (Poirot) who then blackmails the trio, led by a young Ryan Reynolds, into really committing a robbery. Foolproof, despite its low budget was a great mix of action, comedy and sheer quirkiness that I instantly fell in love with…...

I'm no expert on Canadian filmmaking, but a cursory Internet research into the subject revealed that the Canadian film industry is in a largely pitiful state. Sure, there is plenty of Canadian talent that does well in America, and lots of films are made in Toronto, but films funded by Canada, set in Canada, made my Canadian filmmakers, and using local talent very rarely succeed. The Canadian government, through Telefilm Canada, has for decades subsidized (or "invested" as they prefer) in Canadian filmmakers in the (dim) hopes of not just propping up local talent, but actually making a profit. Unfortunately, for the most part (excepting the rare success like the modest hit, The Trailer Park Boys 2), Canadian movies not only fail to reach American audiences, they can't even find success in their own goddamn country. They throw a lot of money at filmmakers, but rarely do they put much behind marketing,...
