Bogart's son looks at his father's life
This is an interesting, albeit short, look at the life of Humphrey Bogart. Hosted by his son Steve, the theme of the documentary is a son seeking to discover his father. Steve Bogart was quite young when his father died of cancer in 1957. Interviews with Bogart's mother, Lauren Bacall, director John Huston, and actress Rose Hobart are seen throughout. Bacall's words, of course, are the most insightful. There are clips from Bogart's films as well as home movies and stills from his early life and stage career.
Bogart was ill in the last year of his life, and it must have been a difficult and painful end. However, this is not dwelled upon, nor was it while Bogart suffered from cancer. For a man who appeared to be somewhat cynical and jaded by life, it appears that for the sake of his family and friends that he kept things upbeat. For this viewer, this is a valuable and poignant key to a personality that gave us some of great characters in filmdom.
