- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: We are scheduled to leave for Chandangarh at 11am, and if everything goes according to plan, we'll be back here with Ansari on the day after. But we have to do this carefully, and within the framework of the law... follow the rules. This enemy we are up against has no name, nor face. We don't know how many of the enemy there are, except that there are many in number. We don't know what kind of weapons they have, except that they are better than ours. We don't know when, where or how they will ambush us. But we know they will surely attack. To get Ansari released, they can go to any extent, so be careful. Any questions? Fine. We leave in 10 minutes. Good luck, gentlemen.
- [officers salute]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [Catching up with the rest at hospital entrance, having lost all hope] This mission is over for all of you.
- [All characters looking towards Anant confused]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: By now I am sure you have realised that the very people who sent us to apprehend Ansari don't want Ansari to reach the court. In such circumstances it's near to impossible to get Ansari to the court. If we are to continue this mission, our battle will be against the entire establishment and for once even if we do succeed in our motive, we will face reprisals from the government. We'll get suspended, dismissed or even jailed. I've decided I'll go the distance. You people are young, you've your entire lives ahead of you. I'd like all of you to return back home.
- [Anant turns around to enter the hospital]
- Sr. Inspector Shekhar Verma: Well done sir. You want to do all the noble deeds all alone. Ok, I accept I've been a bad cop, done a lot of awful things. But this is the only time I am getting a chance at redemption, and you want to grab it from me? I am not going back. Last night, I was exceptionally rude to you, for that I apologize, but please don't send me back Sir.
- [Shekhar cries]
- Sr. Inspector Shekhar Verma: If you wouldn't take me along, I would tail you. But I am coming with you.
- Constable Kamlesh Sawant: I am also with you sir. To the end.
- Constable Gajanan Mhatre: I am also with you sir. If I lose this job, be it.
- Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte: I am also with you sir. But only till we can get Ansari to Mumbai. Once there, I am resigning from this job.
- Mahalaxshmi: [Reluctantly] I too would like to accompany you Sir.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Alright. If that's so, from now on, there's no communication with Mumbai.
- Yashwant Angre: [On the swing in the dark at the remote house, in a calm threatening voice] Good evening. Sorry I arrived unannounced. But what can I do, this government job of mine forces me to.
- [Angre looks at a confused Anant]
- Yashwant Angre: Don't be so stunned DCP Sir, I report to the same authorities as you do. The only difference is you draw your salaries in cheques, I collect mine in cash.
- [Angre sarcastically]
- Yashwant Angre: And it's JUST a little more than yours. Smartass Shekhar, rookie Ashwin, how'll THEY save Dr. Ansari.
- [Angre to his henchmen]
- Yashwant Angre: Find them!
- [Angre points to Anant]
- Yashwant Angre: [Angre touches Mahalakshmi] Mahalakshmi, are you gonna do my postmortem.
- [Angre smiles and turns to Anant]
- Yashwant Angre: Your wife's damn gorgeous, so is your daughter. But you couldn't even ever remain alongside them. I'll take very good care of them once you're gone.
- [Angre gets punched by Anant but prevents his henchmen from shooting Anant]
- Yashwant Angre: No! Mac? Put a gun on his head.
- Mac: Right sir.
- Yashwant Angre: [Pointing to Kamlesh] Come on, slap this senior officer of yours.
- Constable Kamlesh Sawant: [Horrified] No, I can't do it. Kill me instead please.
- Yashwant Angre: I'll come to that as well. But if you don't slap him now, you'll see his brains splattered on the floor. I'll count to three. One...
- Constable Kamlesh Sawant: Please, I beg you.
- Yashwant Angre: Two.
- [Kamlesh lightly slaps Anant]
- Yashwant Angre: Damn. Kalua ?
- Kalua: Yes sir?
- Yashwant Angre: Did you hear anything ?
- Kalua: No sir.
- Yashwant Angre: And when I was punched?
- Kalua: Loud and clear sir.
- Yashwant Angre: [to Kamlesh] Heard him. It should be audible to him. Again, I'll count to three. One..
- Constable Kamlesh Sawant: [Crying] I plead to you.
- Yashwant Angre: Two.
- [Kamlesh tightly slaps Anant]
- Yashwant Angre: [Angre smiling] Kalua?
- Kalua: Now I heard it sir.
- Yashwant Angre: [Pointing to Mhatre] You too, slap your DCP, else I'll blow his brains out.
- Constable Gajanan Mhatre: [Scared] But please. I...
- Yashwant Angre: I'll count to three. One... two.
- [Mhatre tightly slaps Anant and cries heavily]
- Yashwant Angre: [Angre smiling] Kalua?
- Kalua: I could hear that sir.
- Yashwant Angre: [Angrily grabbing Anant by his collar in a cruel tone] This is what I call a true beating. The one who's punched cries, but the one who punches cries more. When you hit me, it hurt my skin. But when you got hit, it hurt your soul. Ever since I set out hunting for you, I thought I'll suck all the life out of you. But suddenly I realised survival doesn't mean anything to you. All what matters to you is Duty, Respect, Honour. I'll scratch all of this one by one. You'll be disgraced, stripped of this uniform, people will spit on you.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [In a composed and courageous tone] You saying anything wouldn't make a bloody difference Angre. Storms would approach the shores unchallenged, but only the flame of the candle will survive which has the will.
- [Anant gets punched by Angre]
- Mac: Sir, we think there are people hiding in the storehouse.
- Yashwant Angre: Get them.
- Village Mob Member: [Upon seeing the Police team walk out with Ansari] What are you looking at? Kill Ansari.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [Furiously shouting] Hold it! Who said that? Who?
- [Anant points to the mob member]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: You! You said it? You'll kill with a sword? Come on kill him. Kill Ansari. Come on.
- [Anant grabs the villager by his collar and dragging him in front of Ansari]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Kill him! Kill him!
- [Anant slaps the villager on his head]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Why aren't you striking? Want to kill me? Come on, kill me!
- [Anant pushes the villager]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Who else wants to kill Ansari! Come on! Show your faces! Wolves all of you, came here to attack in packs.
- [Anant shouts]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Why don't you look into my eyes. In order to look eye-to-eye, you need guts. And guts are possessed by those who know the truth. Understand that?
- Village Mob Member: Ansari is a traitor. He should be punished.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [Furious] You'll punish him?
- [Anant repeatedly pushes the villager]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Police? Judge? Hangman? Who gave you the authority? If Ansari is guilty, the judiciary will penalize him. We're taking him to the court.
- Village Mob Member: How will you take him to the court? You are yourself sold off!
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [Walking to the villager after a brief pause, in a polite but angry tone] I pity people like you. Everytime you're mislead. You're being used. Your own houses are demolished by your very hands, people profit from your acts for their nefarious schemes and you don't even realise it.
- [Anant raising his voice]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: That's what's happening as of this moment. You've no idea about the facts but you've taken to the streets with weapons. You wanna know the truth, here take a look!
- [Anant shows bloodstains on his uniform]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: We know the truth, we've battled death itself for that truth, we've shed our blood for it. If you firmly believe that you're right and can battle death for its sake, you're most welcome to try and stop us. Else, just get out of the way.
- [Protestors cease almost immediately]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [Receiving a call from Angre] Hello.
- Yashwant Angre: Welcome, welcome to Chandangarh.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Who is it?
- Yashwant Angre: Sure it'll be. And I know you'll love it.
- Yashwant Angre: Sorry, you came to my house, but I wasn't there.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [Signalling Ashwin to trace the call]
- Yashwant Angre: Anyway, when you were there, I tried to talk to you. The phone was ringing but you didn't pick it up. Your mind is still very sharp, DCP. Good, the more the prey is sharp and clever, the more fun it is for the hunter.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Who's the prey and who's the hunter, you'll find out very soon.
- Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte: [in a discreet tone to Anant] He's talking from some different line. We can't trace the call.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [to Ashwin] It's somewhere near a railway station. I can hear the sound of the train.
- Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte: Okay.
- Yashwant Angre: Why are you quiet, my friend? Trying to remember something?
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: You are speaking as if you know me.
- Yashwant Angre: You might have forgotten your old buddies, Mr. DCP. But I don't forget.
- Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte: [in a discreet tone to Anant] All the lines are cut near the station.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [to Ashwin] He's in a bar or in a restaurant near the station. I can hear it.
- Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte: Okay.
- Yashwant Angre: Neither do I forget. Neither do I forgive.
- Sub Inspector Ashwin Gupte: [in a discreet tone to Anant] Sir, sorry sir, the bars and restaurants in the city are closed. Because of night curfew...
- [Anant hears his wife and daughter's voices]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [to Ashwin] He's inside my house.
- Yashwant Angre: I can reach anywhere, DCP. I will reach Ansari too. Today you're lucky, you're safe. You have to be lucky every time, and I only once.
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: [worried] Hello, hello, look here, if you touch my wife and daughter...
- Yashwant Angre: Good night.
- [Angre hangs up the phone and turns off the tape recorder]
- DCP Anant Kumar Shrivastav: Let alone the criminals, if the police department wishes and if the Government permits, no one can snatch a toy from a child in the city. But the fact is we policemen who have put on this khakee are that goons who in the name of duty commit atrocities on the weak and helpless people. That's all. The municipality worker is better off than us who wears khakee like us but he cleans the city of the filth by going inside the gutter.
