Right after watching Roger Weisberg's Academy Award-nominated "Why Can't We Be a Family Again?", I read that Simone Biles has a drug-addicted mother who abandoned her but is now trying to reconnect with her. That makes the documentary all the more important, seeing how the children of people with drug problems have to live with someone else and hopefully can make something of themselves. In this case, a pair of boys in Brooklyn are living with their grandmother while their mother goes through drug treatment. The question remains as to whether she'll ever have the right to have contact with them.
While short, it's a hard-hitting documentary, seeing what some people's lives are like. It's impressive that Roger Weisberg and Murray Nossel were able to come across this story. It's a good thing that they did, so that the rest of us can learn about this family. I hope that the boys did eventually manage to make something of themselves.
