DIC suit flags 'Racer' comeback
A lawsuit could put the brakes on Speed Racer's return to cable television in the United States. At issue is whether a distribution agreement that got new episodes of the classic cartoon on Nickelodeon was fraudulently terminated by the rights holders or allowed to lapse by the company that licensed the episodes for distribution. DIC Entertainment Holdings Inc. filed the suit alleging fraud and breach of contract to enforce its right to keep distributing the show, which it is doing even though Speed Racer Enterprises Inc. says its agreement ended Dec. 31 when DIC failed to exercise an option to commit to more episodes.
