Dancing Ledge, the drama producer 25% owned by Fremantle, has promoted executive producer Chris Carey to the newly-created role of managing director. He will work alongside CEO Laurence Bowen having joined Dancing Ledge last year after spells producing shows including Les Misérables. Dancing Ledge’s current slate includes Martin Freeman series The Responder and novichok drama The Salisbury Poisonings, which are both being made for the BBC, as well as Netflix’s Delhi Crime. Bowen said: “Chris’ experience, knowledge, contacts and creative flair make him the perfect first MD of Dancing Ledge. He’s had huge success in the industry before and since joining Dancing Ledge and with him in a leadership position, the company can grow its reputation as a producer of memorable, bold drama and a champion of new talent.”

Imira Entertainment, the Spain-based distributor-producer of kids and family content, part of the Toonz Media Group, has struck partnership deals at Annecy with Chile’s Lunes Animation Studio and Ireland’s Telegael on, respectively, properties “My (Ex) Imaginary Best Friend” and “Alexander and Pete.”
“My (Ex) Imaginary Best Friend” is an 11-minute 26 episode animated series about children dealing with the changes and frustrations during their puberty.
With Emmy-winning kids’-content producer Telegael, where Toonz has a majority stake, Imira has inked to pitch to prospective partners on the live action comedy “Alexander and Pete.”
A 22-minute 26 episode series, following the adventures of a magic loving schoolboy who discovers a six-hundred-year-old talking rabbit, “Alexander and Pete” has been created by Barbara Slade, whose credits include “Rugrats,” “Angelina Ballerina” and “Winnie The Pooh.”

Children's entertainment group HIT Entertainment announced Monday huge growth in full-year figures driven by strong merchandising and licensing sales of key characters in the U.S. market. The company, whose properties include Bob the Builder, also unveiled a slew of U.S. broadcast and merchandising deals for new preschool series Rubbadubbers. HIT chief executive Rob Lawes unveiled pretax profits of £18.3 million ($28.4 million) for the year to the end of July, up from £2.7 million for the same period a year ago. Revenue for the period soared 131% to £121 million ($188 million), of which £73 million ($113 million) came from business in the United States, where exposure of titles such as Bob the Builder, Kipper and Angelina Ballerina is only in its second fiscal year. Pretax profits before goodwill amortization and exceptional items totaled £27.3 million ($42.3 millon) compared with £7.5 million a year ago, and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization jumped 170% to £44.3 million ($69 million).
