Silvio Santos wanted to make Bárbara Paz a Brazilian counterpart of Thalía. Paz starred and performed the title theme of Maria Esperança (2007) mirroring Thalia's stardom on María Mercedes (1992), Marimar (1994) and Humble Maria (1995).
Bárbara Paz survived a traumatizing car accident in 1992, which left scars on her face. Such scars reportedly prevented her from getting roles. Marisol's plot coincides with this fact. The character's scar is shaped like an "M".
Bárbara Paz counted on Alexandre Frota a lot on set. She had had little experience on television, while he been a long time film and TV actor.
Conceived to cash in on the success of Casa dos Artistas (2001), wherein Bárbara Paz (Marisol), Alexandre Frota (Mario) and Patrícia Coelho (who performs the series title theme) had been houseguests. Paz famously won the first season, which was the first Brazilian reality show ever produced. The houseguests of the second season of "Casa" were shown the pilot episode.
Ironically, Amparo (the evil antagonist)'s name means "Help" in Brazilian Portuguese.
