Addicting Strategy Game
vertigo_1422 April 2004
Based on the Super Mario villain, Wario, is the strategy game made for Nintendo entitled Wario Woods. This is a level-by-level game play, with each board containing a series of little creatures of different colors and styles that little mushroom guy has to match up to get them to disappear and clear the screen while more creatures drop down the screen. Wario, of course, wanted to stomp little mushroom guy, so each board was timed. You'd get like fifty seconds and creatures would drop down the screen slowly, until Wario showed up to speed up game play as your little mushroom guy scrambled to arrange the creatures to clear the screen. Like many strategy games, once you figure out how to play it, it becomes very addicting as you try to get further and further into the game.

It's a good idea to hang on the passwords as they're give to you because the first twenty levels or so are slow, especially once you get used to playing the game. I think I played about fifty levels or so before getting sore in the eyes from staring at the screen, so I'm not sure how many levels the game is composed of. The graphics are done in the style of Super Mario Brother's 2, nothing fancy considering it was the 8-bit era and it is only a simple shaped strategy game unlike action adventure games or role playing or whatever where you'd expect better graphics. If you like Bubble Bobble or Tetris or those kind of games, then Wario Woods is a good match for you.
