NBC takes 'Wing' to high-def net
NBC Cable Networks announced Thursday some of the programming it intends to feature on Bravo HD+, its first network dedicated to high-definition programming. Bravo HD+ is set to launch July 31 with a combination of newly acquired content and shows that originally aired on Bravo and NBC, including the first HD telecasts of The West Wing. Classical and other music will also feature prominently on the channel, as will such sports as the Olympics and 2003 Triple Crown horse races. "Bravo HD's premier lineup offers our affiliates high-quality, diversified programming to attract new subscribers to their digital tiers," NBC Cable Networks president David Zaslav said. NBC officials said they are in the process of arranging carriage and have not announced any deals. They stressed that Bravo HD+ will not simply be a simulcast of the Bravo cable channel. Also getting their first HD telecasts on the channel will be Cirque du Soleil's Varekai and the Music in High Places series, which features such recording artists as Ryan Adams and India Arie performing at ancient sites on earth. "We want to provide viewers with a compelling HD experience, and Bravo HD+ does just that, delivering truly unique and dynamic programming," Bravo president Jeff Gaspin said.
