- Prize-winning Milwaukee independent filmmaker Dude Schmitz (Mark Borchardt, American Movie) desperately needs money. The crew of his last film has yet to be paid and hes already in financial trouble with his new project. Opportunity knocks when the local news director gives Dude the chance of a lifetime an exclusive interview with pop icon Britney Spears. But the crew is unceremoniously tossed from the interview after a characteristically crude query from Dude and he never gets a chance to finish his interview with the teen star.
In a local diner, Dude befriends anguished Britney impersonator Robert Stephens, winner of a Britney look-alike contest who, like Dude, has been dismissed by Britneys heinous flacks. Then Dude formulates a plan to resurrect his hoped for payday. In exchange for Robert pretending to be Britney in a series of exclusive road trip style interviews for the local news station, Dude promises to introduce Robert to Britney at her next concert in New Orleans.
Dude, Robert and the rest of the rag-tag crew pile in an RV and head for New Orleans. When Dude realizes hes strapped for cash, he secretly photographs Robert as Britney encountering menacing truckers, worshipful children at a hospital, and crazed fans in a shopping mall. To raise the necessary cash along the way, Dude sells a couple of select yet tantalizing photos to The Daily Innuendo.
Back in Milwaukee the local TV Station is becoming famous for their behind-the-scenes Britney material. The networks want a live interview and the head of the station demands one from Dude.
Finally they reach New Orleans where Robert is supposed to meet Britney and do one last interview. But he discovers that Dude has been using him all along to fake a Britney film. He storms out only to be kidnapped by a bunch of Goth Britney Haters. Dude catches up with him and convinces him to do the interview. But he turns the tables on Dude and tells the camera that hes a fake Britney, just as the cops and Britney's people swoop in.
