James Van Der Beek is following in the footsteps of Terry Crews by revealing his own experience with sexual harassment in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. The former “Dawson’s Creek” actor took to Twitter where he “applauded” Weinstein’s accusers and condemned the former studio head for his “unacceptable” actions. He followed-up his statement by sharing that he became the victim of sexual harassment himself as a young actor.

“I’ve had my ass grabbed by older, powerful men, I’ve had them corner me in inappropriate sexual conversations when I was much younger,” Van Der Beek wrote. “I understand the unwarranted shame, powerlessness & inability to blow the whistle. There’s a power dynamic that feels impossible to overcome.”

Raaz Reboot
Starring Emraan Hashmi, Gaurav Arora, Kriti Kharbanda
Directed by Vikram Bhatt
When in Romania, do as the Romanians do?? Well, sort of. The latest instalment of the Raaz franchise, and by far the most gripping—if you like that sort of a thing—since the first Raaz film in 2002, is shot with subdued splendor by Manoj Soni, in the snowswept landscape of Romania. This novel location lends a beguiling bleakness to what could easily have been yet another bland spook-fest from the horror-house of the Bhatts.
But Raaz Reboot(Re-Bhoot?) is more gripping than the two earlier instalments of the Raaz franchise which suffered for the want of a tight plotting. Raaz Reboot is also a direct descendent of the original Raaz film which, to nudge moviegoers’ memories, scored big in the year of Sanjay Bhansali’s Devdas. In that husband Dino Morea had a terrible secret up his sleeves,...

Assessing the Legacy of Ken Russell’s Masterpiece 45 Years Later.
Ken Russell’s The Devils (1971) holds the distinct honor of simultaneously being the most controversial and the most banned film of all time. It is a film lauded by film critics as a masterpiece, one that routinely tops Must See and Best Film lists, and yet it is still largely unavailable on DVD and has never been released without the interference of heavy handed studio censorship and edits. It is a film that critics encourage viewers to watch via an illegal stream, simply because it must be seen. So what is it about The Devils that makes it so beloved by everyone but the studio holding the key to its release?
The History
The Devils is based on The Devils of Loudun, a 1952 book by Aldous Huxley, as well as The Devils, a 1960 play by John Whiting. All three tell the story of the 1632 possession of 27 nuns...

It’s no surprise that Kelli O’Hara and Steven Pasquale, stars of The Bridges of Madison County (running at Broadway’s Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre through May 18), lit up when asked about their go-to karaoke song and junior high jams. But that’s not where the retro fun ends.
Beyond Joni, Joel, and Journey, see what got them nostalgic from back in the day, then learn what about Bridges makes them happy to go to work eight times a week.

William Friedkin's The Exorcist (1973), based upon the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty, is one of the greatest and most powerful American motion pictures ever made. With an impressive cast that includes Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow, Jason Miller, Lee J. Cobb, Jack MacGowran and newcomer Linda Blair, The Exorcist had its origins in a 1949 case involving the purported demonic possession of a young Evangelical Lutheran boy in Cottage City, MD who is still alive to this day, is retired from Nasa, and claims to have no memory of the events that he experienced. Mr. Blatty, who read about the events at the time, thought about the story for years until he wrote the book circa 1969, some 20 years later, in the house of his ex-wife in Encino, CA.
Coming on the heels of my all-time favorite film, 1971’s Oscar-winning The French Connection, Mr.

It’s that wonderful, frightful, cool and creepy time of year again, when everything including the leaves on the trees are dying and our taste buds are craving sugary sweets and pies made from the guts of our jack-o-lanterns. It’s October, which means Halloween is nearly upon us! Get you costumes completed, your home haunts constructed and your candy collected for trick’r treaters, because you have to make time to watch some of the scariest movies this time of year.
In an effort to assist you in your cinematic scare-fest, we’ve come up with a list of the scariest movies to watch on Halloween… with one caveat. We have excluded virtually all “slasher” flicks. Why? Well, let’s just say we all know them, we all love them on some level, but really… don’t we all want something more in our scary movies? In honor of...

Chicago – William Friedkin graced Chicago with his presence at a special event during the 2013 Chicago Critics Film Festival and it’s an evening that I’ll never forget. Not only is the director of classics like “The French Connection” and “The Exorcist,” recently released in a lavish 40th anniversary Blu-ray edition, one of the most important filmmakers of his era but he’s also incredibly funny, smart, and well-spoken. Fans of film owe it to themselves to read “The Friedkin Connection,” released earlier this year and even sampled in this release. And his heavy involvement in this release, including interviews, featurettes, and a commentary, make it a must-own for classic movie fans. That and it’s still one of the scariest movies ever made.

The Exorcist – William Friedkin’s religious horror juggernaut that wrote the book on exorcism horror, with no other genre specific film coming close to achieving the critical accolades this spectacularly horrifying film did back in 1973. Yes, a film without the technological advances of today is still making most horror films look like child’s play, both in the effects department, and concerning true, pants-wetting horror. Friedkin and writer William Peter Blatty created a timeless classic that has been terrifying audiences for years, as I still couldn’t help but leave a light on while re-watching this magnificent special edition Blu-Ray re-release.
Where can you even begin with his masterpiece, though? If you want to pin down the true source of horror, we have to analyze Linda Blair’s groundbreaking childhood performance. While so much had to do with settings, atmosphere, framing, and all the technical jargon, without Linda’s convincingly disturbing performance,...

Last year, we reported that a limited TV series based on The Exorcist was in the early stages of development. That project evolved into a new drama series that Morgan Creek is shopping to TV networks. According to Deadline, Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four reboot) is writing the series that is said to be a brand new take on the material.
The Exorcist TV series is still in the early stages of development, with the project being pitched to both cable and broadcast networks. With the popularity of horror TV series on the rise, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of networks fighting for this.
Morgan Creek owns the rights to The Exorcist and they are spearheading the project, with Roy Lee (The Departed, The Ring) on board as an executive producer. We’ll be sure to let readers know as soon as more details are available.

There is no denying that The Exorcist is a powerful film among many horror & non-horror fans. It is also important to the genre considering how revered it is among critics and film analysists that tend to shy away from genre filmmaking. The film is a classic and while I prefer Exorcist III more, this is still a film that I have to get on Blu-Ray. Warner Brothers will be releasing a 40th Anniversary Blu-Ray set on October 8th, just in time for Halloween. Read below for the special features and what the set looks like!

It's kind of hard to believe, but the horror classic, The Exorcist, is turning forty years old. To commemorate the film's anniversary Warner Bros. is releasing a special 40th Anniversary Edition blu-ray with all new special features. Come on in to check out all the details on the new set and when you can get your hands on it.
One of the reasons I love the film medium is that the truly great films (no matter the genre) can last a lifetime. Take The Exorcist for example. It's been a staple and standard in the horror genre since before I was even born, yet people still enjoy it as much today as they did back then.
If you're a fan of the classic film, you may want to pick up this new anniversary edition on October 8th, as it has brand new special features and includes the extended director's cut of the film.

With religion in decline, why does our fascination with fiends and possession persist? Perhaps its a kind of therapeutic release
As their chosen title suggests, the makers of The Last Exorcism didn't expect it to beget a sequel. However, their $1.8m found-footage cheapie ended up taking $68m at the box office, so understandably enough, this week they're bringing us The Last Exorcism Part II. Perhaps they should have been more confident about their first effort's prospects: filmgoers have a proven taste for demonic expulsion.
The Exorcist regularly tops lists of the scariest-ever films. A decline in religiosity since its 1973 release might have been expected to curb the appeal of its subject matter, but recent years have spawned The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Constantine, Exorcist: The Beginning, Stigmata, The Devil Inside, Season of the Witch, The Possession, The Unborn, Paranormal Activity 2 and The Rite. Several of these efforts displeased critics,...

Beyond the Hills
Directed by Cristian Mungiu
Written by Cristian Mungiu
Romania, 2012
Dreadful anticipation, the kind that most mainstream horror films strive for and fail to achieve, permeates every second of Beyond the Hills, a new film from Romanian writer-director Cristian Mungiu. The film, a patient, uneasy drama about the nature and presence of evil set against the backdrop of a small Romanian monastery and its newest member, grows more and more disturbing as its players go to the extremes to banish out the perceived other from their would-be purified community. Though Beyond the Hills has a too-slow first act, on the whole, the film is quietly devastating.
Cosmina Stratan plays Voichiţa, a young woman ensconced in that monastery since leaving an orphanage where she spent her childhood. As Beyond the Hills opens, she picks up her old friend from the orphanage, Alina (Cristina Flutur), so they can live out...

One of the saddest stories I've ever written here on Dread Central. Danny Steinmann didn't have the longest career, nor was his work appreciated by mainstream critics. But genre fans loved his crass and darkly humorous voice, and if you're anything like me, you hoped he'd revisit that territory one day. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen now.
We've received word that Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning director Danny Steinmann has passed away. Details are non-existent at this point, but we're inclined to believe Melanie Kinnaman, who posted the news to her Facebook page less than an hour ago.
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love that particular installment in the Friday the 13th saga, but Steinmann was also responsible for one of the greatest "urban decay" exploitation thrillers of the 1980s, Savage Streets. A movie which finds Linda Blair donning a skin-tight catsuit and...

E! is reporting that Colton Haynes is exiting Teen Wolf over negotiations over the number of episodes he would be appearing in. Sources for the show say that he was offered a full run, while sources for Haynes say he was offered less than half the episodes. MTV says that no one is being forced out or recast, but doesn't say that Colton isn't leaving.
James Van Der Beek may have started a trend playing a heightened version of himself on television, because now Michael Bolton is set to do the same, in a show about his assistant, him, and his out of control teen daughter. But will he make a sexy jeans commercial? And a bigger question is what exactly a heightened version of Michael Bolton looks like.
Just when you think the Log Cabin Republicans are sane, the Florida chapter runs an ad displaying the body of slain Ambassador Christopher Stevens,...

Los Angeles -- Forget the movie. This "Exorcist" is turning heads – by not turning heads.
"We're not going to throw up all over the audience," noted actor Richard Chamberlain while on a recent rehearsal break at the Geffen Playhouse in La's Westwood Village.
Chamberlain is one of the stars of the Geffen's new stage adaptation of the 1971 William Peter Blatty novel about a girl who may be possessed by Satan, the girl's distraught mother, and the senior and junior priests charged to save the day.
The book was a phenomenon. And yet for many, its memory is overshadowed by the 1973 William Friedkin film, which provided visceral thrills aplenty, including Linda Blair's famous head-spinning scene.
The Geffen production, running through Aug. 12, reaches back to Blatty's decidedly more cerebral treatment: scaring up a serious discussion of psychology, faith, love and evil.
Little wonder bringing "The Exorcist" to the stage appealed to playwright John Pielmeier.

In Oscar Horrors, Team Film Experience explores Oscar nominated contributions to the horror genre. Here is new contributor Mayukh Sen.
Here Lies...Linda Blair’s reasonably complex turn in The Exorcist, slain by the prodigious work of fellow pubescent Tatum O’Neal (Paper Moon).
Brian de Palma apparently hated The Exorcist, and it’s not difficult to see why. I generally fall on the unimpressed side with the film, because none of the psychological trauma undergone by the characters finds aesthetic articulation. Everything is so clearly, obviously constructed on a Hollywood set that it borders on the parodistic. What is superlative about a director like de Palma is that he understands the trappings of genre conventions and mocks the notion of film as a classically escapist, populist medium, managing to extract a modicum of truth out of such a framework. Friedkin doesn’t understand this. Interpreting what should be perfunctory...

As finales go, "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" Sunday (June 26) series closer was downright unemotional. Instead of spending the last hour closing the loop on detectives Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Alexanra Eames (Kathryn Erbe), the show was -- well -- an hour-long procedural cop drama. Which is maybe why we liked this show so much in the first place.
Sure, D'Onofrio as the eccentric detective Goren was endlessly entertaining, but when it comes right down to it "Law and Order: [Insert franchise here]" is all about the crime -- and so "Criminal Intent's" last outing stuck with the formula that kept us watching each week for (most of) the past decade.
The final case we see Goren and Eames solve together was not only ripped from the headlines, but ripped from the script -- the story of a hip social networking entrepreneur and rich twin brothers suing her for copyright infringement...

Season of the Witch
Directed by Dominic Sena
Written by Bragi F. Schut
2010, USA
As if to simplify things for the beleaguered critic, Season of the Witch makes clear right away that it has absolutely no stake in its own moral credibility. After a brief – and ambiguity-destroying – prologue, in which a priest is hung by the throat by a vengeful spirit, we meet Crusaders Behmen (Nicolas Cage) and Felson (Ron Perlman) as they slash through a series of intertitle-dated battles and boast of their respective triple-digit kill counts, with each one promising to buy the other drinks if they can slaughter more infidels. In the last of these sequences, Behmen is made to suddenly develop a conscience when he accidentally murders a beautiful woman. They’re bloodthirsty religious zealots with hearts of gold!
That lack of credibility is symptomatic of Witch‘s general half-assedness, from its blandly contemporary dialogue (“let...

Introduction:
Is there a better time to watch horror movies than on Saturday night? Be it alone or with friends, with beer or without, there’s just something about letting the stresses of the week slip away in the presence of a deranged killer, a zombie apocalypse, alien invaders, hungry vampires, werewolf orgies (if you haven’t seen Howling II, shame on you!) or any such combination.
As a kid, there was nothing more exciting than staying up late on Saturday night and prowling the channels for late-night horror programming. Being exposed to things like Day of the Dead, The Howling, Race with the Devil and Black Christmas before the age of ten certainly helped contribute to my demented modern day state of mind. Before my parents even knew what was happening, I was disavowing any and all interest in spots, cub scouts and anything else kids do, in favor...

Celebrities are known for pushing the envelope when it comes to naming their babies — to say the least! Nameberry.com co-founder Linda Rosenkrantz notes that recently some celebrities have been blazing a different trail, however. “One of the latest trends among celebrity parents is the trend away from trendiness,” she notes. “Even though we still see some extreme choices like Bandit and Bronx, more and more celebs seem to be opting for classic, traditional, ‘normal’ names.”
Although it’s possibly a backlash against all the negative publicity provoked by their “kooky” celebrity baby name counterparts, Linda suspects that “a bigger...
