Huayis find backers for Lau's 'Wits'
BEIJING -- Leading Chinese indie filmmakers the Huayi Brothers have joined with producers from Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea to film Battle of Wits, a $16 million live-action feature starring Andy Lau, a Huayi executive said on Thursday. Coming off the 2004 hit Kung Fu Hustle, Huayi chose Hong Kong's Jacob Cheung (Midnight Fly) to direct Battle, which is based on a popular animated series about China's warlord period, Leah Xu, Huayi Brothers Film Investment Co. vp, said. Huayi's co-production partners on Battle are Comstock of Japan, Boram Entertainment Inc. of South Korea, and Sun Dream of Hong Kong, Beijing-based Xu said.
