D'Amato incoherence triumphs
lor_31 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
It isn't often that incompetent writing and direction unite to produce a satisfying movie result. Because he was in such a hurry to crank out yet another of his 100-plus porn titles shot at a breakneck pace (before his untimely death in 1999), Joe D'Amato inadvertently produced an interesting switch on the Dumas tale.

The previous IMDb reviewer typically didn't watch the video, submitting a fake synopsis plagiarized from the intentionally misleading video box. The actual feature is far more interesting, though not necessarily on purpose. This is a case of where loose ends are far better than tidy plot resolutions.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

I had recently watched the poorly-made Leo DiCaprio MAN IN THE IRON MASK, in which his untalented director Kevin Reynolds makes a big, big deal on the effort that went into designing the movie's mask -much ado about nothing it turned out.

With zero effort D'Amato and Co. come up with a far better mask to contain the features of striking leading lady Anita Blond, cast as the twin daughters of the King of France. It has slits which show Anita's evil eyes and luscious lips -she is really scary here, and cements her status as one of Europe's most talented XXX performers.

As the villainess Jacqueline, we see her make love to a guy in an opening scene and then literally stab him in the back after his money shot. The king isn't pleased, and arranges for her to be locked away, fitted with the iron mask.

Her nice-girl twin sister Madeleine has womanizer Jean-Paul as a fiancée, not the Francois mentioned in the box & IMDb synopses. Madeleine visits her sister in stir but Jacqueline tricks her, killing a guard to effect her freedom and leaving poor Madeleine in the iron mask which she stupidly thought would just be a temporary gig.

Jacqueline's evil boy friend, played by Zensa Raggi, visits Madeleine in her cell and makes love to her (thinking she's Jacqueline) in a kinky vignette - sex with a nude Anita Blond wearing only the mask is quite interesting to watch.

Not only is he fooled, but film ends abruptly with Jean-Paul walking along with the king, commenting on how much Madeleine's behavior has changed of late, he not realizing that Jacqueline has taken her place. He likes the "new" approach of his fiancée, making for an open ending that cleverly inverts the usual triumph of good over evil.

In D'Amato Pornland, the hero is a rake (he see him humping any femme in sight during the course of the film) who delights at his virginal princess taking up a dark side, while the evil princess triumphs, the good girl left in a cell wearing the dreaded mask.

D'Amato's gender swap cheapie
Leofwine_draca15 March 2017
THE LADY IN THE IRON MASK is a typical low rent porn movie from Joe D'Amato, who at least can be relied upon to treat his exploitation movies with a degree of effort not found in some other countries. This is a simple gender twist version of the Alexandre Dumas novel, in which famous porn actress Anita Blond plays the role of twins, one good and one evil.

The evil one is locked away in a tower and forced to wear the eponymous mask while the good one goes off to romance in freedom. Of course, there are a few plot twists, none of them important enough to get in the way of all the sex, which is D'Amato's emphasis. The performers look like nothing more than porn performers and hardly convince playing characters from a few centuries ago, but the sets aren't bad and the costumes, which look like they belong to the Georgian era, are quite gorgeous.

~ Lady in the Iron Mask ~
TheBossofTheNorth21 June 2007
Another Joe D'Amato (Aristide Massaccesi) full-length feature film of his XXX Erotic Film Collection. The Lady in the Iron Mask, stars Anita Blond, as the Evil Princess, Victoria Barakova, as the Girl in the Iron Mask, Christina Elias, and many others. The story line is as follows.

The King of France locks away his twin perverse and sexually obsessed daughter Jaqueline, and forces her to wear an iron mask for all of her days. Madeline, Jaqueline's mannered twin sister, takes the place for her evil sister. Soon after, France is in deep jeopardy by the evil Jaqueline spreading her sexual charms all through the government. Eventually, Jaqueline's love, Francois, frees her sister, and Jaqueline runs away from the palace with her new love, Maximillian. In the end, Madeline falls in love with Jaqueline's ex. now that Madeline is free and she can now choose the man she wants to marry.

This is one of Joe D'Amato's (Aristide Massaccesi) last entries into the Hard-Core porn world of cinema. Including some violence, blood, and of course, sex and more sex. A good watch for any Joe D'Amato fan and Hard-Core porn watcher or collector. I bought it for only $19.95 (including shipping) on DVD.
