Each home console port of the game is different to each other, the Sega Genises version closest resembles the Arcade, but fan votes the NES version the most popular.
The arcade version shows the in-game sprites of Billy dressed in black and Jimmy dressed in white, this is the only game where the Double Dragons wear different colors other than their signature street clothes, one being blue and the other being red.
In both the Famicom and PC Engine ports of the game, the Double Dragons were given three chi-harnessed Special Techniques; the first being a Hyper Uppercut called the Ten Satsu Ryuuji Ken (lit. "Heavenly Killing Dragon King Punch"), the second being a High Jump Knee called the Bakuma Ryuujin Kyaku (lit. "Demon Exploding Dragon God Kick"), and the last one being a Cyclone Kick called the Ryuubi Ranbuu Kyaku (lit. "Dragon Tail's Storm Wind Kick") which is the only move that was originally planned for the arcade version of the original Double Dragon, but was cut due to memory constraints but it still can be viewed in the game's files founded by The Cutting Room Floor.
Double Dragon II: Wander of the Dragons is a beat 'em up loosely based on this arcade sequel, developed by Korean game studio GRAVITY and published by Barunson Creative Co. Ltd. The title was first announced in 2011, but was shelved for release for two years. It was eventually released on April 5, 2013 as a digital download for the Xbox 360 via the Xbox Live Arcade service. The game was met with an overwhelmingly negative reception, being considered as one of the worst games of all time.
The ending cut-scene of a group photo features Billy, Jimmy and Marian in their NES/Famicom versions, while their in-game sprites look different in the Arcade version.
