After the distribution rights for the English version were purchased by World Events Productions, in order to make it appeal to the American and European market, the company decided to retool the mature sci-fi anime to a much lighter western-style sci-fi series in the vein of BraveStarr (1987), which would result in Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs (1987). While the anime was moderately successful in Japan, "Saber Rider" on the other hand was very well received in the Western market and became the better known version.
The US version (and possibly also other dubbed versions) had a heavily modified episode order, introduced six new episodes (2, 3, 13, 17, 18, 34) and left out five episodes of the original Japanese version (20, 23, 30, 36, 42). This entry reflects the Japanese episode order.
