One of the best role playing games ever
glennzo_0230 July 2002
EA Games have released many games that they can be proud of, but this one beats them all. Medal of Honor Frontline lets you experience a war that was the worst of its kind. We don't want to experience a real war, just get an idea what it would have been like for the people who had to live and breathe the ups and downs of war. This game captures that perfectly. The graphics are excellent, with the smallest details adding to the splendor. Crystal-clear sound puts you in the mood most people would have felt back in the 1940's. The gameplay is superb, with you taking the role as Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson, who is enlisted with the US Army. Overall, this game ITSELF deserves a Medal of Honor.

True cinematic experience... One you don't come across everday.
Mr_1254 February 2006
You climb a flight of stairs, sniper rifle in hand. Half the building is blown away, but you continue looking for the perfect perch. Coming up behind an enemy Nazi, he turns around just to see you clobber him squarely in the face, and as he tries to rise, you finish him off with another blow. You step over the body, and set your sights. Down below, a score of Germans are battling with Allied forces. You mark your target, and squeeze the trigger. An officer takes the bullet, and his cap flies off. Directly across the alleyway, a Nazi sniper turns and raises his rifle. Another quick round silences him. Below, a German soldier turns to make a break for the machine gun a few metres away. Your rifle barks again, and the targets flips forward. He gets up painstakingly, and finally, you pull the trigger. His falls back, muttering his last words. You load a new magazine, and gaze into the rubble-filled streets of Arnhem.

Medal of Honor Frontline is a game that takes you beyond D-Day, and as it states, right into the Frontlines. Each level is beautifully done. This game proves that you don't need special effects and all that for it to be a great game.

A complete recommendation to all shooter fans.

Good, but not realistic...
general-melchett2 February 2007
Medal of Honor Frontline is a good first person shooter. Though it lacks the huge explosions of Rising Sun and the enemies are once again ready to be cut down in droves rather than giving any kind of a strategic fight, it is still very fun and it won't irritate. The guns do seem a little unrealistic, but who cares? After all, the graphics are still bloody neat, and the sniper rifle (Springfield 03) is hugely effective. I wouldn't say it was like being in Saving Private Ryan, but I would still say it's good. Enemies all around you and the rather run-down, varied settings do add an element of realism to the game, but to be honest, this isn't a strategic fighter like Brothers In Arms, this is a full-on battle game and it's darn fun. The D-Day level at the start of the game ensures that you are in for a fun shooter and a half... 7/10

What a Rush!
azimuth36110 February 2003
This game is what all FPS games should be. There have been plenty of comments about the graphics, the sound, the gameplay, blah, blah, blah. What really grabbed this player was the interactive music. When Patterson is sneaking down an alley, the background music reflects the building tension. As one of the Nazis hears Patterson coming and hits the alarm button the music picks up to a heart-pounding tempo. Once all the Germans are eliminated and Patterson returns to steathily creeping around, the music backs off again. It's a particular rush to play with a large-screen tv and surround sound. You can actually hear bullet strikes in front of, behind, to the left and right of you. Whip out the plastic an pony up for a home theater system. Even if it's only to play THIS game, it's worth it.

This is a classic first-person-view game that is awesome. Prepare for some hot action as you take control of a soldier, who is going deeper and deeper into hostile territories. Cruel game but the graphics are so beautiful that it will knock you down!!! Buy it!!

A video game classic
roger-8910 June 2002
This was the title that made me go out and get a PS2, and it has paid off. The game is a gripping, sometimes frightening ride through several scenarios of WWII. It is a marked improvement in every way from the PS1 installments. Those who have played the 1st two games will see some familiar sequences. The submarine pen mission from MOH I was, in many ways, copied over and updated. Still, the enhanced rendering of characters, weapons and environments more than makes up for the overall familiar feel of the level. The 1st(D-day) 3rd and 4th "campaigns" are simply stunning, and I'm still playing!. Your "squad" members, more than any other video game, are interactive elements in the action, taking initiative and often leading the way. I thought the design of the campaigns were much more in line with what a high level operative might be asked to do (aside from the massive kill ratio). For instance, sabotaging a bridge or rescuing a captured operative are much more realistic than say, the single handed destruction of the Nazi atomic program such as in MOH 1 and 2. Dont get me wrong, the action is still fast and furious, and the more numerous enemies in Frontline will keep you on your toes, even on the easy level. An interesting point, the weapons have become less accurate in this installment (the barrels rise sharply on weapons with full auto), and reload time has actually increased. I thought this added to the realism of the game rather than detracted from it. the sound effects are better than ever, and I suggest, for a few levels at least, turning off the music (which is very good) to get the full range of sound effects. I highly recommend MOH Frontline, any fan of first person games cannot miss this one.

Timeless...excellent

Warning: Spoilers
I never get tired of playing this game over and over again. Yeah, it's been five years since this one was released and others have come after it with better graphics and more realism, but this one never seems to get old. I don't know what it is...whether it's just simply hearing the angry cries in German of the Nazi officers scrambling around trying to eliminate you, an intruder, an Allied spy...or if it's just simply the idea of eliminating Nazis that keeps me going with this one. The plot is very good as well. The best first-person shooter games I've played are the Doom games and they (except for Doom 3) have no plots whatsoever; so, the plot is very good for a first-person shooter game. The musical score is excellent...some of the best music I've heard in a video game...it's like I'm watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade only it's interactive. Yeah, I admit, I use cheat codes...but that's after I've beaten it without use of such features. This is one of the best video games I've ever played...end of story.

Medal of Honor Frontline
TWD9224 September 2010
Having played through this game I felt that I should inform gamers who have not yet played the game of what I think of it. I will not hide the fact that I believe 'Frontline' to be the best World War Two first person shooter to have been created so far.

Many people who have seen the film 'Saving Private Ryan' may perhaps tell you that is is one of the greatest and most engrossing beginnings to a film you will ever see. While a console game could never hope to achieve the same effect, 'Frontline' attempts to created the game version of the best beginning by firing your character (Lt. Patterson) in at the deep end. Like 'Saving Private Ryan' your character is landed on the deadly Omaha Beach on the morning of D-Day. The level is well constructed and attempts as best it can to give the player a tiny insight into what happened on that beach on D-Day. However, the rest of the game does not carry on in the same vane as the first level. The first level very much involves your character in the bigger picture on D-Day - fighting with your fellow soldiers and helping each other out. The majority of the levels after that involve your character in espionage work behind the scenes generally trying to be as big a nuisance to the Germans as possible and foiling every plan that you can.

As you fight your way through seemingly impossible tasks with only the weapons the OSS have given you, you get a real sense that the creators and developers really tried to provide an authentic experience. Unlike many other war games, Medal of Honor does not simply ask you to mutilate as many opposition soldiers as possible but asks you to perform different tasks (such as sabotage, rescuing informants and stealing plans to a new deadly German aircraft). Occasionally your character may be require to acquire a German uniform and sneak around completing tasks. Don't get me wrong, you are still required to kill off the Nazi soldiers that you see but throughout the game I didn't get the feeling that that is all that I was required to do. I feel that the enemy AI is as good as you can get on the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube and the weapons that are at your disposal are also accurate to the weapons that would have been used in the Second World War.

I will also mention the musical score to the game created by Michael Giacchino. I feel that this is as good as you can make a score to a game. Each level has its own track and this adds great depth to the overall feeling of the game. For example, the Menu screen has an emotional orchestral theme playing in the background that sets the tone for the game and seems a fitting introduction to the game that the player embarks on. Giacchino matches perfectly the score of each level to the setting and feel for each level. This is no better illustrated than in 'Operation Repunzel', a fast paced level which sees Lt. Patterson maraud his way through a mansion to rescue an informer named Gerritt. The score is lively and dynamic. It creates tension but is also defiant and seems like it sets the pace to the level. Another good example is 'Arnhem Knights' which places your character in the failed Operation Market Garden attempt by the Allies to end the War by Christmas. The music creates and intense feeling of impending doom and sadness and, despite the fact that it is just a game and nothing more, I felt a pang of pain every time one of my fellow soldiers fell under German gunfire.

I really feel that Medal of Honor Frontline captures the essence of World War Two better than any other World war Two game on the market and respects the legacy of World War Two while at the same time appealing to a broad audience. If you have not yet played Frontline, I would urge you to give it a go and see for yourself...

A Nostalgic masterpiece
martinkosecky16 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Medal of Honor has always been the pinnacle of WW2 shooters and I dont think the switch to modern warfare was a bad thing, but the classical Medal of Honor games simply have to return!

Frontline was an amazing game, combining stealth, action, humor and Indiana Jones-ish main hero with historical accuracy.

The story was great. You play as Jimmy Paterson, a member of OSS (Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor to CIA) and you are tasked with stopping a top secret nazi project nicknamed "HO-IX" or "HE-229" led by Sturmgeist, a high ranked german officer. You land in Normandy, destroy an U-Boat, parachute to Holland and become a part of Operation Market Garden, the biggest paratrooper operation in the entire history! and much more.

The gameplay and gunplay were very solid. You could use melee attacks with completely any weapon, the weapon sounds were high quality and you could carry one weapon of each kind. The weapons felt really well and the MG42s had a very realistic firerate, quickly moving down enemies. Enemies were challenging and the aiming was great even thought it was on PS2 with a controller.

The best part were the missions. They had stealth, sabotage, sniping and a lot of depth.

The easter eggs such as the message "the bread is delicious" when you eat a bread or silly moments like the fight between drunk German soldiers in Golden Lion or "Press ACTION to motivate Gerrit" just to push him from a balcony gave the game quite humorous and Indiana Jones-ish feeling.

On the other hand, sad and terrifying moments like a paratrooper getting sniped or the Dutch people being treathened by wehrmacht soldiers have really shown the horrors of war.

The soundtrack was amazing, composed by legendary Michael Giaccino.

This game was my childhood and it was simply a great game.

horrible
andrewhhh15 June 2006
This games d-day mission was so unrealistic that it wasn't even funny. You run around the small beach giving cover fire to your fellow soldiers. If it was the real thing you probably would've been dead before you even took 5 steps on to the beach. There should have been some tactics involved. Also you get like 5 guys in the invasion and you are forced to run across a minefield just like that. In other missions you have to fight about a whole German army by yourself. Even when you do get men the do nothing but stand around or fire some awfuly aimed shots at the Germans. I like the medal of honor series but this one was a major disappointment.

The ultimate war based game
chvylvr805 May 2003
Frontline is what all first person shooter games aspire to be. This game rules. It's very challenging but with practice you can beat it even on hard like I finally did. The extensive research that was put into this game pays off and makes this game very real indeed. The weapons are very cool and accurate. Accurate as in close to the real thing. The full auto weapons have a tendency to climb. All in all a great game and one that you can play for a long time even after beating it without getting bored. Bottom Line: Until Halo 2 comes out this has to be the best first person shooter.

In war, nobody fights alone. To bad the creators didn't know this
natedagreat6 July 2006
The topic of this summary suggests a terrible flaw in the game. Throughout the whole game, you fight ALONE. That's right, with no squad members or anything. It makes it really hard and unrealistic.

The graphics are okay, and the sound is okay too. This game just really disappoints me badly. They could have done A LOT better on this game, and it's a shame that it wasn't done well enough to be a decent game to play. I would suggest that you save your money and get one of the other games (European Assault, Pacific Assualt, etc.) because anything is better then this! So, as I said, "In War, Nobody Fights Alone. To Bad The Creators Didn't Know This!"

The Gem of the MOH Series
chrism-4141420 August 2005
When you think of World War Two, you think of the bloody beaches of Normandy, the shattered villages of rural France, and the plotting resistance pin-pricking German positions. And this is exactly what this game delivers.

The game-play is - in a good way - typical of a first person shooter. The range of weapons is very realistic as well. The story portrays you as Jim Patterson, a private in the U.S. army, picked for a series of undercover missions across undercover France.

The only let down is the fact that you can't play 2 player. But other than that, a brilliant game. Seeing as it's quite an old game now, you can pick it up in most game stores for under £25.

A real gem. 9/10

A True Experience
karadjordjevic30 May 2002
Being an Immigrant and knowing members of my family being involved in World War II it's something truly special when I get to re-live the events that changed the face of the war. Medal of Honor: Frontline is such an experience from the beginning when you're fighting in Normandy to the real world locations within France, Holland among others. You need to play this game not only because it's fun action but because it's also education and you'll learn stuff about WWII (which you may or may not have already known). The Medal of Honor Series is one of the best First-Person Shooting games around...you need to play it

Medal of Excitement and Medal of Perfection
Tyler_R_Weston25 June 2003
I just bought my PS2 yesterday but it was broken. So today, I exchanged it for a new one and it worked. I rented Medal of Honor: Frontline and it is the best game I have ever played! The graphics are astonishing and the weapons are mind-blowing. Nothing's more fun than playing as Lieutenant James Patterson killing Nazis and French guys. Each mission is packed with action and just more and more Nazis to terminate. Medal of Honor: Frontline is a highly recommended video for PS2, XBOX, and Gamecube. As the first PS2 game I've played, it's far by the best video game ever. Steven Spielberg is a genius creating this game! As I played, I felt like I was right in the middle of the battle of war. Nobody should hate Medal of Honor: Frontline because it's the most exciting game a video-game fan craves for. The Nazis are tough, but it's worth shooting them. And there's tons of weapons you can obtain. My favorite one is the machine guns. Medal of Honor: Frontline should be made into a film directed by Spielberg! If that ever happens, it will be mind-blowing! If you have any comments or agreements for me, please e-mail me at tylerripen@yahoo.com.

Awesome game
SMLA1122 June 2002
Medal of Honor Frontline is probably one of the coolest games ever made. You are Jimmy Patterson, a US soldier who must fight off the nazis and do all sorts of missions. The only thing I have against this game is that its pretty aggravating to climb ladders and fall off every single time. The missions are just awesome and you get to play with all sorts of guns.

Overall the game is awesome and you will love it. Rating A+++. (Tied for best game)

Truly amazing. This is the best ww2 game i've ever played. The graphics are stunning and the background music is great.Thru France,Belgium and Germany this game keep you sucked in until the very end.The weapons look and sound so realistic. The Germans really speak German, which is a common problem in other ww2 games. The way they incorporate the actual footage from ww2 is amazing. The only problem is the lack of health kits and ammo.

Overall I would give this game a 10/10.Even after you complete this game it is still fun to play over again. This is the best of the Medal f Honor series.

Well worth your money
mallrat_7 September 2002
Every now and again a game comes along that has it all and Medal Of Honor Front line is one of them. You once again return, playing the role of LT Jimmy Paterson who you played in the first game. The atmosphere in this game is amazing from the background noise of machine guns and screaming to the music (especially on the later level entitled Arnem nights). I know this does not sound true but certain aspects of this game actually are quite funny such as, starting fights in bars, shooting soldiers in the foot and watching them hop around on one leg, watching as enemy soldiers flea and a whole lot more.

So stop reading this review and go and buy it! It is well worth your money

Warning: Spoilers
Of all my WW2 games this is by far the best one i have ever played! the game play and graphics are great and the music really sets the tone of what it would be like fighting in these small towns and at D-Day during WW2. but also, its improbable missions that make the game great, like: breaking into a mansion full of Nazis and killing them all by yourself and at the same time find a resistance in the mansion, not to mention jumping 6 or 7 stories onto a cart full of hey. i have to say by far the best mission is Arhem Knights; It's just like the end of Saving Private Ryan. The only thing i had a problem with in this game would be the last level, it drove me nuts. But other than that this game rocked!
