The Youth of the day !

You could also see this as a talking point,which is probably what the creator was after. The nudity is not really the main subject here more the statement of the class.I see it as a take from it what you will short film and I see it more as a statement of youth. It's a typical "We are the youth of today" statement...they want to be different. Once the teacher takes her clothes off they're not different...so once again they change by getting dressed and pushing her out on a limb when the door opens. It's still relevant in all kinds of ways as it asks you "why are they naked ?" If plain nudity is something that the watcher doesn't understand they will see it differently to someone who is naked everyday. It's not a classic but can start some interesting conversations 🙂

It's all about perspective

"Point de fuite" or "Vanishing point" or "A Matter of Perspective" is an almost 30-year-old Belgian short film that runs for 10 minutes and was written and directed by Olivier Smolders, probably also among his most known efforts nowadays. For his co-writer it ended up being pretty much the only career credit in film. A teacher enters the school building, then the class room and finds all her students naked. However, she does not object, but even joins in when they ask her to. Poor woman. She got pranked there pretty badly. The actress is the beautiful Catherine Aymerie and she was in her mid20s here, younger than she looked to me which may have had to do with the character's authority. One of her earliest career efforts and she is a good example on how you can really have a decent career in the industry for years, actually decades to come despite showing full frontal nudity during the very early stages of your career. But well, it is not a porn movie or so. Otherwise, she might have had a harder time. As for the young actors here, none of them really achieved or pursued a career in the industry afterwards. But they don't have any dialogue either except the one word at the very end, which is a vital part of the comedic climax here. Sorry I just had to. So they are almost extras only in this one-(wo)man performance.

This short film is not really about the words the teacher says, but about all the actions in here. Maybe about the camera work too. Okay, it is a bit unrealistic that they really succeed to put their clothes back on again so fast and also without her recognizing, but it does not take anything away from the comedic moment in the end. Interesting timing too. They must have known somebody will come. Her face expressions on two occasions are pretty spot-on too. Utter shock. Sadly, beyond that great comedic moment at the end, there is not a lot to this short film, apart from the whole absurdity of it all. Especially her agreeing, but I guess it shows how progressive she is. Still, it was a pretty decent watch and if you don't mind the nudity and French language (you don't really need to understand it in order to understand this short film), it is certainly worth checking out. Now I wish I would have gone to school in Belgium. This one is apparently more popular in Russia nowadays as you hardly find a version without Russian subtitles, especially not on Youtube because of all the nudity. Italy liked it back then too apparently because this was where the film achieved its only awards recognition. Thumbs up for this successful comedic elaboration perspective, from the students' point of view, from the teacher's point of view and from the view of whoever enters the room then.

Vanishing point or Point de fuite (1987). You don't need to know any language to understand this shirt film. Catherine Aymerie's acting was fine and the whole 9 minutes was very interesting due to the content it possess. There are few illogical things but the teacher's reaction at the end was awesome. Nice short film, give it a try.

about an age

it could have a lot of interpretations. parable about perspective to see reality, joke against the young teacher, need to be different or to dominate. in fact, it is only a film about the spirit of an age. about the war between teacher and students, about the desire to be accepted of the first, about cruelty forms of the second. nothing new, surprising or remarkable. the lesson, the revenge, the passion of the young woman to explain the lesson, ignoring the change, the open door and her embarrassment are normal ingredients of a honest view about school. and about the looking for symbols, special significations of the public.
