Keemat(1998)
iftikharkhokher8 March 2008
What a bullshit of a film! The director or writer of this film sways sometimes with the plot of Sholay and sometimes with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.The plot is improbable and a long way from reality.Akhshay and Saif Ali Khan are in good form as is Anupam Kher. The film is a reflection of modern bollywood i.e.lots of erotica, flimsy plot, irrevelent comedy and breathtaking photography.Akhshay is good looking and probably has the mentality that his handsomeness will see him through but in serious acting he is very amateurish.Saif Ali does his usual slapstick.Ravena acts less and reveals more of her profile. This will not be of any benefit for her future.A very stupid movie.

So bad it's funny!
Chrysanthepop10 January 2008
'Keemat' is a typical 90's 'so bad it's funny' films. Director Sameer Malkan tries to cash in on the 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari' success by repeating Akshay and Saif, this time opposite hotties Raveena and Sonali. Over the top comedy, dishum dishum (to those who are unfamiliar with the term, it's the sound that used to happen when people got beaten up in Hindi films), a nice dose of sensuality and ridiculous plot with over the top dramatic moments...it's got them all. Let's get to some of the good stuff. I quite liked the songs. 'De Diya Dil Piya' is a sensual song from Alisha Chinoy's part but Sonu Nigam kind of takes away the sexiness from that number with his too innocent voice. 'Koi Nahi Tere Jaisa' is a ripoff. The other songs are pleasant to the ears but weirdly picturized. Anyway enough with the music. Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are back in their Anari Khiladi mode, this time with an added touch of Sholay's Jay and Veeru and some homoeroticism. At least people now know that these two will perform striptease to the extent of covering their privates with banana leaves while dancing together on some lake. Raveena Tandon is ravishing, sexy and funny. The (intentionally) funniest scenes were with her and she brings the film slightly to the likable side. Sadly her role is limited. She and Akshay also have a great chemistry as has been evident in few other films too. I wonder why this pair was never chosen for good films. Sensational Sonali Bendre has a smaller role than Ms. Tandon. She certainly looks sizzling but is over the top with acting. Moushumi Chatterjee stands out among the supporting cast in a non-substantial role. Anything else? Nah not really. The 4.5 word summary says it all.

Akshay- Saif are back with a flop
silvan-desouza23 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Akshay and Saif were first paired in MOHRA and MAIN KHILADI TU ANARI in 1994 both worked well and there were hailed the next hit pairing. In 1996 their pairing was repeated in flop Tu Chor Main Sipahi and then KEEMAT tried to recreate their jodi since MKTA by the same director Sameer Malkan alongwith hoties like Sonali and Raveena however all turned into another fiasco. That time Akshay and Saif were going through a bad phase in their careers, Akshay was giving a series of flops after Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi(1996) while Saif too was giving flops. Keemat released on April 10, 1998 few months before the next flop of Akshay and Raveena(Barood). KEEMAT starts off with both robbers Akshay and Saif robbing people, which leads to death of Ravi Kissan and then they amend things by coming to a village to amend things, they meet Ravi's father Anupam Kher and family. The film then enters into the SHOLAY, KARMA mould where this 2 have to settle scores with the villain, long haired Dalip Tahil and a weird Shakti Kapoor. The film has some weird romance and comedy scenes, which were famous in 90s and the film ends in a typical fashion

Direction is okay Music is decent, Koi Nahi(rehash of Catmando song) is decent while De Diya and other songs are good Akshay Kumar has inconsistent looks(maybe he had a haircut) like in most of his late 90's films and he does a decent job in his usual role Saif too entertains but their jodi failed to create the same impact of before. Sonali and Raveena are the heroines. Dalip Tahil is good in the villain role, Shakti Kapoor provides some laughs(unintentional and intentional) Johny Lever has a cameo.Anupam Kher is as usual

Akshay-Saif film gone wrong
superindrajit13 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan have given good movies in the early and mid 90s but slowly, their movies were becoming awful. This is one of their worst movies where the only thing that appeals is action, the action and songs are the only thing that work in this crass movie. The film came in 1998 when Akshay was not doing too well, he gave 7 flops in 1997 and that with flop films in 1998 and lasted until Akshay got his comeback with Jaanwar(1999). Saif Ali Khan was always flopping in the 90s with only Main Khiladi Tu Anari to his credit. Otherwise, it wasn't till Dil Chahata Hai when he got his first big hit.

Keemat is the duo's flop film that came in 1998, the film was completely rejected by the audience for it's cheesy dialogues and idiotic comedy. The comedy doesn't work at all in the first half, there are so over the top silly moments which only make you laugh because it's so silly. Saif and Akshay are robbers who succeed in each robbery but in one such incident, they accidentally get an innocent Ravi Kishen murdered. They find themselves in Ravi's village finding their parents devastated and upset for their son's death. There are some actual villains who are responsible for the murder and the rest of the film is how the duo avenge Ravi's death by taking out the villains.

Direction by Sameer Malkan who directed the flop but good Divya Shakti then the amazing blockbuster action comedy Main Khiladi Tu Anari sadly fails to create an impact here. The comedy is irritating and poorly handled while the romance is boring and slows down the movie. The action is the one thing that stands out, it impresses because Akshay excels in stunts. Saif's comedy only works when he is giving a live commentary of Akshay's action, which is funny.

Akshay Kumar does his usual rough and tough action hero role and he does it properly to some extent after which he is let down by the script. However, he stands out mainly because of the amazing stunts, at least he doesn't overact like he did in some of his movies from 1997. Saif Ali Khan lets down because in Main Khiladi Tu Anari, he was doing good with comedy, he fails here. He is the moron who tries to evoke laughter with his Casanova act but he completely fails like most of his films from the 90s. Raveena Tandon and Sonali Bendre are the heroines and they are mainly needed in the songs. Anupam Kher is good, he plays the typical upset father properly, the rest provide average support.

On the whole, Keemat is one of Akshay's and Saif's badly handled and clichéd movies from the late 90s when both were not doing well box office wise. They have acted in much better movies and it's wise to watch those ones, save yourself from this flop entertainment.

They're back and they do it again!
Neo-23330 November 2001
Yes! Yes! Akshay and Saif Ali are back and they do it yet again. When I first saw the trailer of this movie, I knew that it was going to be a big hit. The plot is awesome! The soundtrack is awesome! The acting, the directing, and the whole lot. This movie is quite touching as it tells the story of two small time crooks discovering the true meaning of life. Spiced up with a bit of comedy and really good action sequences by Akshay, this movie is an Indian movie-goers dream. I recommend it to anyone.

An unofficial remake of sholay
shounak932513 February 2021
A real film buff will easily recognise the influence of sholay on this movie. But it is a smarter film with more humour & twists. Action was so well directed. A film that should have been a superhit but released at the wrong time when khans were ruling with romance
