I will think twice about picking up a ringing pay phone again
wireandfire14 July 2001
This Film felt so real, makes me afraid to Pick up a ringing pay phone on the Street. Just to know that at anytime, the man at the phone could be shot dead, simply for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Not only that but when the signifigant other walked into the picture, opened up a very Real fear for me, the possible death of a loved one. The film became very real as it went on, the ending was unexpected....Great Film!!!!

Great short!! Original with great suspense!!

I was glued to watching this short. With such a simple plot, End of the Line surprised me with its level of suspense. It is technically well done, and directed in a way which holds viewers (I won't give anything away - but I allude to "Duel", how many ways can you shoot a truck chasing a person? - Spielberg will show you)

Plot packs a lot of punch! *****

As a festival director, I see a lot of shorts and almost all fizzle out at the end. It's a rare find to watch a short that keeps you on edge and wanting more! The relationship between the two main characters, although brief & somewhat disturbing, is beautifully developed. If you ever get the chance to see this short, do so. You won't be disappointed.

Superb!

End of the Line is a dark view of how life has become so busy and hectic that most people are too self-absorbed to take the time to listen or help people in need. The performances of Jamie and Bob are uniformly outstanding and had me hanging on to my seat. I found the film to be a satisfying mix of suspense and drama with an original storyline. What's so exciting about this film is that you're in constant anticipation of what's going to happen next.

Just run away!

You know, I never had a good feeling about picking up a random Pay Phone that's ringing. This short film explains why. I will admit, this is one of my firsts Short Films I've seen, and I enjoyed it. Nice done acting, especially for the guy with the gun in the window. He did a great job on the voice. The plot is very good, and keeps you thinking. I suggest it to anyone who likes watching short films, and I suggest everyone to just wait for the 2003 release of "Phone Booth", which stars Kiefer Sutherland, Katie Holmes and others in a similar concept. As for my rating on this short film, 9/10. Check it out.

Brilliant thriller!

This superbly acted and directed short film from young up and comer Paul Hough is one of the best short films I've ever seen. Tautly paced and scripted, the movie keeps you guessing and unsure on what might happen between two characters in a tense standoff one day during summer. (If I'm not mistaken, there's even a cameo by director David Irving at one point, but I can't be sure.) It's well shot and put together. I look forward to see what Mr. Hough will do next.

A taut, suspenseful thriller with a twist
Raskinator25 June 2001
Expertly written and directed, and brilliantly produced, END OF THE LINE is a superb example of a successful low-budget thriller. Using basically only one location, director Paul Hough manages to create high tension and (surprisingly, for a ten-minute short) emotional resonance. I look forward to seeing whatever he does next.
