There’s not a horror fan out there that doesn’t like slasher movies. It all started with Black Christmas in 1974 and then the Eighties came and suddenly the horror subgenre was huge. Since then there have been countless others and it’s perhaps the subgenre that first-time horror directors on a small budget go for. Which is exactly what Martin Renner, director of Buzz Cut has done.
There are a few things that you need to get right when making a slasher film and the most important, that almost everyone will agree on, are the death scenes. Get them right and almost everything else can be forgiven by your average horror fan. So I’m very glad to say that Buzz Cut does get it right! The death scenes...

David Spade revealed in a recent profile in Esquire magazine that his longtime collaborator Chris Farley expressed interest in reuniting for a third feature film together about two months before his death. Toward the end of their runs on “Saturday Night Live,” the two comedians joined forced to headline the 1995 buddy comedy “Tommy Boy.” Although the film was not a box office hit (it grossed only 32 million worldwide), it became a bonafide cult classic thanks to its home video release. Spade and Farley quickly reunited a year later for “Black Sheep.”
“Two years after ‘Tommy Boy’ came out, they told us it made 100 million on video. We couldn’t believe it,” Spade said. “It really grew over time. We talked about doing another one, but Farley wanted to do more drama, so I said, ‘Go do that.’ I ran into him two months before [he died] and he was like, ‘Everyone always...

Exclusive: National Geographic’s award-winning documentary Torn is about to make its streaming platform debut.
Disney+ announced it will premiere the film, directed by Max Lowe, on February 4. Torn tells the story of world-renowned mountain climber Alex Lowe, who was killed in an avalanche in the Himalayas in 1999. He left behind a wife, Jennifer, and three young boys—sons Max, Sam and Isaac. Max, now in his 30s, directed the documentary in part to come to terms with his father’s death, and to process all that came after it.
Accompanying Alex Lowe on that ill-fated expedition were fellow climber Conrad Anker, himself a legendary talent and a close friend of Lowe’s, and cameraman David Bridges. The avalanche also killed Bridges, and left Anker seriously injured but alive. Anker spent time with the Lowe family after Alex’s death and eventually Jennifer and Conrad fell in love and married.

Back when WarnerMedia (which technically no longer exists in the same form) announced that it would be premiering its entire slate of 2021 films on HBO Max, this is the kind of month they likely had in mind. For HBO Max’s list of new releases in August 2021 is highlighted by an honest-to-goodness blockbuster.
The Suicide Squad is set to premiere Aug. 5 on HBO Max. This film featuring some of DC Comics’ most curious villains borrows its name, format, and many of its characters from the David Ayers-directed 2016 film Suicide Squad. This time around, the rogues gallery is directing by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and his colorful disposition. In addition to The Suicide Squad, August sees the arrival of the Hugh Jackman-starring Reminiscence on Aug. 20.

All-American race car mania is alive and well in this excellent Jeff Bridges movie, a true biographical story researched by Tom Wolfe. Junior Johnson needs a future beyond running moonshine for his father, and finds it climbing the rungs of success in the stock car racing game. Chris Rock Brands Giuliani 'Crazy'
Controversial comedian Chris Rock has branded former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani "crazy," insisting he shouldn't be getting all the praise he does for his time in office. The star of the upcoming movie Bad Company says that since leading the people of New York back to relative normalcy following the terrorist attacks of 9-11, Giuliani has been heaped with praise. But Rock insists that the politician did nothing special--and he's still the "crazy" character many perceived him to be before the attacks. He says, "Rudy did his job--that's all he did. Hey, the guy went out of his way, I will say. But that's the gig. You know, I had a girlfriend who was sexually attacked years ago, when I was seventeen or whatever, and I nursed her back to health, helping with the swollen eyes, feeding her, getting her back to the point where she could go outside. But I was her boyfriend--that was my gig. It's not like they should put me on the cover of Boyfriend Monthly." He adds, "Put it this way, if Rudy Giuliani hadn't left office, he was gonna do something crazy eventually. That's just him--he's crazy. He would've had a dust tax on all the dusty buildings or something. He did a good job but that's what he was supposed to do."...
