“Her emotions were on no ordinary plane,” Fanny Logan says of her cousin and best friend, Linda Radlett. “She loved or she loathed. She laughed or she cried. She lived in a world of superlatives.” This is an extremely high standard to set for Linda, heroine of the three-part miniseries adaptation of Nancy Mitford’s satirical coming-of-age novel The Pursuit of Love. But by the time Fanny (Emily Beecham), who also serves as our narrator, describes Linda (Lily James) this way, it’s clear that both she and Pursuit live...

The Pursuit Of Love executive producer Charles Collier has revealed that his production outfit Open Book and Moonage Pictures are planning to make three seasons of the buzzy Lily James period drama.
The adaptation of Nancy Mitford’s classic novel is a co-production between the BBC and Amazon, and Collier told a Mipcom Online+ event on Monday that his aim is also to bring the author’s two sequel books to the screen.
“It’s part of a trilogy of books. We hope to bring the books to life in future seasons, so The Pursuit Of Love Season 2 would be called Love In A Cold Climate based on a brilliant book by Nancy. The third book would become our third season, Don’t Tell Alfred,” he explained.

Saturday nights are no longer for going out - The X Factor is finally returning to our small screens this weekend with new hosts, a fresh judging panel and a fair few format shake-ups.
But whatever happened to the finalists of the first ever series - "barking bloody mad" Rowetta Satchell, red-haired wannabe rocker Tabby Callaghan, cheesy best friend duo 2 to Go and eventual winner Steve Brookstein?
Roberta Howett
Roberta Howett went from unhappy telecommunications worker to Louis Walsh's Dublin darling after her successful X Factor audition. But perhaps it was the curse of the Walsh that resulted in her early exit from the series when she became the first act to be eliminated.
Now 33, Roberta appeared on the debut album of Spanish composer Toni Castells in 2007. She finally released her debut album in 2010, its lead single 'Beautiful Lies' became her first Top 40 single in the Irish Singles Chart,...

Hooper appointed to British Film Institute's board of governors following Oscars and Baftas success with The King's Speech
This time last year, Tom Hooper was a little-known film-maker responsible for 2004 South African drama Red Dust and 2009 football-themed comedy drama The Damned United. Four Oscars later for The King's Speech and the Oxford-educated director finds himself elevated to film-making royalty after he was appointed to the British Film Institute'sboard of governors.
Greg Dyke, the board's chairman, said Hooper would be joining at a crucial time for UK film. The BFI has just taken over responsibility for promoting British movies from the UK Film Council, which the government axed last year.
"The impact of Tom's work has been hugely significant for the British film industry and The King's Speech will undoubtedly go down in history as one of Britain's most successful films," said Dyke. "We are absolutely delighted to have Tom join the BFI board.

British director defeats David Fincher and other Hollywood heavyweights to take Oscar with royal tale
Follow our Oscars 2011 live coverage here
He may have lost out in the Bafta race, but Tom Hooper has come good at the Academy Awards, where he won the best director Oscar.
Hooper was one of 12 Academy Award nominations for The King's Speech, and he was up against major Hollywood heavyweights – the Coen brothers, David Fincher, David O Russell and Darren Aronofsky – but The King's Speech's irresistible momentum swept him towards the top prize.
Hooper, 38, worked his way through the ranks of British TV programme-making before establishing himself with the two-part Love in a Cold Climate in 2001. He went on to direct Prime Suspect 6, Elizabeth I and the award-winning Longford, starring Jim Broadbent.
Before The King's Speech, his best known feature film was The Damned United, the story of Brian Clough's ill-fated reign as Leeds United manager.

Tom Hooper may not pick up the award for best director but Academy Awards matter less to such a high achiever, says Catherine Shoard
The odds are that Tom Hooper won't be named best director this Sunday. What that will make him, by default, is the year's most discreet. For although the cast, composer and writer of The King's Speech seem shoo-ins – and the film itself may well win best picture – Hooper himself looks likely to lose out.
An insult? Was he really the one thing that let the side down? No: it's a compliment. Hooper has helmed an awards-gorger of a movie, an underdog the size of a bus that's steamrollered the competition into submission, and no one really noticed there was a driver. A story in last week's Evening Standard said that "Peter Hooper" was irked by accusations of historical inaccuracy. This is the man behind the biggest Britflick in years.

Frances Osborne first met her great-grandmother in the pages of Nancy Mitford’s novels The Pursuit Of Love and Love In A Cold Climate, as the heroine’s absentee mother. In The Bolter, Osborne suggests, not always convincingly, that Mitford’s real-life inspiration endured an undue measure of heartbreak over her self-selected exile from London society. A plain girl but a quick study, Idina Sackville married above her station to handsome heir Euan Wallace, but was separated from him during World War I. They grew apart, and while they both took advantage of the permissiveness of their set to take ...

New Zealand 'Castle' houses Caan
WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- James Caan will head the cast of Castle of Lies, an $8.3 million period drama, the highest-budgeted independent New Zealand film ever made. With shooting slated to begin at the end of the month, Castle of Lies is described as an "erotic and devastating" love story based on the life of William Larnach, a politician who built New Zealand's first castle before fatally shooting himself in Parliament in 1898 after financial ruin and a devastating affair between an ex wife and his son. Caan will play Larnach, while Rosamund Pike (Love in a Cold Climate), who next will be seen in the James Bond installment Die Another Day, will play his ex-wife Connie. Luke Mably (28 Days Later, Uprising) will play her secret lover.
