Bill Gates's spokesman has been quoted in several publications expressing that Gates is "disappointed" that someone would make a film about his death.
Film is a mock documentary presented in every way as a real documentary. "Actors" are credited only as themselves, not as characters.
Shooting occurred at several real events, including meetings of the Los Angeles Police Commission and the 2000 Democratic National Convention (echoing Haskell Wexler's Medium Cool, a similar fiction/documentary film shot largely at the 1968 DNC).
Filmmakers created several websites investigating the supposed Gates "assassination." The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office was so bothered by one website's similarity to the real D.A. site that it called the film's executive producer and threatened legal action - the site was modified immediately.
Alex Hidell, the name of the assassin in the film, was also a name used as an alias by Lee Harvey Oswald.
