Lately, you wouldn’t be wrong if you thought that 90% of the original films that Netflix distributes are rom-coms. The streaming service has certainly found a niche in the low-to-mid-budget rom-com space. But Netflix has its sights set on some big budget fare, as well. And yesterday, it was announced that the streamer has decided to purchase the rights to one of the most anticipated action/thriller films in development right now, “The Division.”
At E3 (the big annual video game event) yesterday (via Collider), it was announced that Netflix has purchased the rights to the upcoming film “The Division,” which is based on the game franchise of the same name.

Netflix has bought distribution to Ubisoft’s “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” a video game adaptation starring Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal.
David Leitch, whose credits include “Deadpool 2” and “Hobbs & Shaw,” is directing the project, which was announced Monday at E3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Rafe Judkins is adapting the screenplay.
The story is set in the near future with a pandemic virus spread via paper money on Black Friday, decimating the city of New York and killing millions. By Christmas, what’s left of society has descended into chaos. A group of civilians, trained to operate in catastrophic times, are activated in an attempt to save who and what remains.
87North Productions, Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories, Chastain’s Freckle Films and Ubisoft Film and Television are producing the film.
“Tom Clancy’s The Division” became the fastest-selling new video game in history and currently has more than 20 million players.

Here's everything you need to know about Marvel's Avengers project at Square Enix.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Marvel's Avengers (also known as The Avengers Project) is an upcoming game from the developers at Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal, with Square Enix set to publish the title, presumably across PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It's unclear at the moment whether it shares continuity with Insomniac's similarly-titled Marvel's Spider-Man, but seeing Earth's Mightiest Heroes together in a Aaa game is a very exciting prospect either way.
The game was first announced in 2017, with a brief trailer that showcased familiar imagery pertaining to some of the most iconic characters in Marvel's stable of superheroes, including Captain America's Vibranium shield and Iron Man's armor. We assume most of the Avengers you know and love will make an appearance.
Square Enix has been tight-lipped thus far about the finer details,...

The games industry’s biggest event of the year is but a stone’s throw away once more, and you know exactly what that means.
Yes, as is par for the course whenever E3 rolls around, a deluge of leaks, rumors and hype parades precede the exhibition’s official beginning and the trend certainly isn’t changing course in 2019. One particularly hot topic this time around is Marvel’s Avengers. First announced over two years ago, the superpowered adventure is confirmed to be putting in an appearance at publisher Square Enix’s annual press conference next month. Some details, however, have already been let out of the bag early, it seems.
Following on from previous rumors indicating that developer Crystal Dynamics will be adopting several elements from Square’s own Kingdom Hearts series, these latest leaks are equally as juicy. The first comes by way of Reddit user iAMA_Leb_AMA,...

If you’ve been around long enough, then you probably remember how licensed video games haven’t always had the greatest track record – especially when it comes to the superhero genre. Fortunately, there have been exceptions to the rule, as the likes of X-Men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Batman: Arkham Asylum really helped turn the tide.
Now, with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes tearing up the box office, one would think gamers would like to step into their shoes for a new interactive experience. The Division 2's first year will be loaded with new content.
Ubisoft has already shared the first details about The Division 2's first year of Dlc updates.
The most significant pieces of The Division 2's first year of content updates are the three episodes that make up the game's initial story arc. The first episode, titled D.C. Outskirts: Expeditions, adds new missions to the game and will see you track down members of the Outcasts and Black Tusks (two rival in-game factions). This episode will also allow players to embark upon a mission that sees them hunt down a lost convoy.
The Division 2's second episode (Pentagon: The Last Castle) will also add new missions to the game that revolve around a still mysterious situation involving the Pentagon (which has seemingly been converted into some kind of stronghold). From the very first trailers for Anthem, I was admittedly a little too excited. For every ounce of skepticism my friends and others had, I held reassurances that this would be the game to take all the best parts of BioWare’s strong writing — and the increasingly popular looter-shooter formula — and combine them in perfect harmony. Having now played the game (at release and preview events), I choose not to rely on the tired rhetoric that all “these games” release in a poor state. I won’t make excuses for a gameplay loop that actively dissuaded me from continuing to play. And I am certainly not holding my breath that things are going to get better any time soon.
When Bubsy 3D released, everyone agreed that, even though it controlled badly, this was about as good as 3D platformers would control on release. It’s well documented that other platformers,...

The deeper you go, the more you'll see what agents are truly capable of! Check out the new and improved Dark Zone in Tom Clancy's The Division 2.
One of the best parts of the first iteration of Tom Clancy's The Division was the Dark Zone. The once easier to control streets of New York City instantly became a lawless, ruthless playground, as enemies went from mindless NPCs to strategic, remorseless gamers. Dark Zones were the most dangerous, pulse-pounding places in all of the Division, as players could eliminate other players and loot the things they worked hard to get. It was high risk, high reward, and now it's coming to our nation's capital.

The video game publisher has a new pirate-themed game coming out in the near future called Skull & Bones and they are now developing it as a live-action series as well. They are teaming up with Atlas Entertainment (Dirty John, 12 Monkeys) to produce the drama and it sounds like it could be cool!
The game is set during the end of the Golden Age of Piracy and it lets players customize their own ships, sail the Indian Ocean, and wage naval combat in both solo and co-operative gameplay.
Not much is known about the story that the series will tell, but Variety reports that it will feature a female lead. I think a series like this that revolves around pirates has great potential. I love pirates and I’ll definitely be looking forward to this show and hope that it turns out good.
Amanda Segel is set to write the pilot and executive produce it.

Skull & Bones may be known as a stupendous sea-worthy open-world adventure with epic ship battles and pirate pillaging that's been teased for the past two years by game publisher Ubisoft. However, in an intriguing development, the highly-anticipated video game will arrive as part of a multi-medium blitz, with plans now set for a television series based off the property.
Ubisoft is planning to produce a Skull & Bones TV series, reports THR. The game company is making the medium jump by teaming up with Atlas Entertainment, a studio connected to some DC Extended Universe films like the smash hit, Wonder Woman, and Suicide Squad, as well as imminently-returning Bravo drama series, Dirty John. While specific plot details for the small screen adaptation of the pirate game were not revealed, the company is...

One day, the quest for a decent narrative film adaptation of a popular video game might end. Today is not that day, however, and the mission continues. Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain is now in talks to join the planned adaptation of Tom Clancy’s The Division – one of Ubisoft’s bestselling titles – which is being packaged for sale by Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
The project has been on the radar for some months, with the involvement of Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal as star and producer already confirmed. The Division will also be co-produced by Ubisoft’s Gerard Guillemot, and Chastain would presumably come aboard as co-lead cast member. The story would be a great fit for the actress, too, who has built an impressive career combining heavy duty drama (Zero Dark Thirty, A Most Violent Year), with more action-based fare (The Huntsman: Winter’s War).

Patrick Duffy says he'd like to participate in a Step by Step reunion movie and that it would be interesting to see how the Lambert family grew up. I just hope such a series spawns a serious topical drama that desperately adds a laugh track when ratings tank, giving the Tgif generation a The Bradys of their own.
You've seen me complain that the dark side of a golden age of television is a too-full DVR that make it challenging to keep up with all the good shows (as well as the guilty pleasures and hate watching) available. It also means that shows like Southland and Switched at Birth don't quite get the attention they deserve. I'm still looking for time to get caught up on Game of Thrones, much less time to get to that third episode of Top of the Lake.

We're starting to get details of American Horror Story's third season. Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson will return for the third story. Ryan Murphy added that he had promised Jessica Lange she'd get to wear some designer gowns to get her to return after playing Sister Jude, so her character this time will be a "glamour cat leading lady."
Meanwhile, the big industry news is that Fox might split American Horror Story's network into two channels. Broadcasting & Cable reports that FX would keep the dramatic content while the new network would focus on comedy (similar to the division between TNT and TBS) and inherit shows like Archer and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The new channel would take over the Fox Soccer channel.
After quitting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Meredith Viera might be entering the daytime talk show scene.

You know those stars who blow up for all of about five minutes -- or five years, if they're lucky -- and then disappear into the ether? The ones whom you're reminded of only upon seeing a late-night commercial for "Totally R&B" or gasping with excitement as they pop up on the latest episode of "30 Rock"?
The Huffington Post has been scouring the Web for juice on some of your old favorites, from pop-music princess Mandy Moore to "Cruel Intentions" heartthrob Ryan Phillippe. Find out what these and plenty of other stars are actually up to. Believe it or not, most of them are in fact still working. (We didn't believe it either.)

You might not be aware, but R&B slow-jam aficionado Ginuwine is still making music. He released a greatest hits album in 2006, and his most recent effort, 2011’s “Elgin,” debuted at a crisp No.

The first (maybe) in what will undoubtedly be a long string of big-budget punishments for the popularity of Lost, NBC‘s The Event is filled to bursting with misdirection, pseudo-camp drama, and the kind of “shockers” that not only force your brain to include the cover track “Dun Dun Dunnnnnn”s, but are difficult describe outside the realm of nonsensical soundbites and liberal repetition of “really”s.
Following the life of random nobody Sean Walker (Jason Ritter), the President of the United States (Blair Underwood), and everyone in-between, the show takes viewers on a wild ride investigation into an incredible cover-up, and the mysterious detainees who are apparently connected with same.
Jumping around in time, for no reason apart from the fact that it is “all clever and whatnot,” we watch as Sean sort of tries to hijack a plane, then move back and forth between his less-than-stellar efforts to talk to the pilot,...

Mad Men's Jon Hamm reflects on how the role of Don Draper changed his fortunes from that of a jobbing actor and sometime set dresser for porn films, to an international celebrity with a lead role in Ben Affleck's new blockbuster The Town
Jon Hamm walks into the tea room of Claridge's hotel – the broad-shouldered, unshaven, square-jawed, grey-flecked embodiment of handsomeness – sits down in the seat opposite me, looks in horror at the Starbucks cup he's clasping in his left hand, and says: "But look! I've done the world's most gauche American thing on the planet! I've brought coffee – to high tea!"
I try to reassure him that it's perfectly fine. This is Claridge's. They're too nice to take issue with such behaviour. But I find myself too addled by the fact of Hamm's handsomeness, and also his celebrity, to make much sense. Good looks and fame always...

"The Event" is an emotional, high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter, "The Class"), an Everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his would-be fiancée, Leila (Sarah Roemer, "Disturbia"), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.
Sean's quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly elected U.S. President Elias Martinez (Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood,...

Jon Hamm could transfer from "Mad Men" league to superheroes team. The actor reportedly has a big chance to portray Superman as he is being "seriously considered" by Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures to take the lead role in the next "Superman" movie which is tentatively titled "The Man of Steel", Tmt reported.
Though the studio has had eyes for the "Space Cowboys" actor to play Clark Kent, there is no indication that Hamm and/or his representation has met with WB, Legendary or the filmmakers. Thus, there has been no deal in place and Hamm is only one of several names being thrown as the candidates to play Superman.
Other names which have been linked to the role are Zachary Levi and Joe Manganiello. Reports said the "Chuck" thesp has joined audition for "Man of Steel" and he is possibly eying the lead role, while the "True Blood" actor...

It's no stretch to say that "Mad Men" has been a career-defining show for most of its core cast. But that doesn't mean the actors didn't have careers before that.
In honor of "Mad Men" beginning its fourth season on Sunday (July 25), we at Zap2it decided to dedicate our latest Z-wind to three of the stars of the series: Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss.
Hamm had been a working actor for the better part of a decade before landing the role of Don Draper. He may have been best-known for his role in "Kissing Jessica Stein" (where he co-starred with his long-time girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt), but he also had a string of TV roles, including stints on "Providence" and "The Division" and guest spots on "Gilmore Girls" and "CSI: Miami."
He also did seven episodes of ABC's short-lived series "What About Brian," which brings us to our first clip.

While director Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern" has been filming in New Orleans since last month, another actor has joined the cast in a pivotal role.
According to Superherohype, Jon Tenney has signed on to portray Martin Jordan — Hal Jordan's father. "Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I'm his father," said Tenney. "I'm Hal Jordan's dad. I'm very excited — it's incredible company."
When asked about the film's script, Tenney replied "Well, it's under lockdown, that script. It's very, very secretive. They’re only releasing sections of it, so they're keeping everybody in the dark. What I've read is amazing. And 'Green Lantern' was one of my favorite comic book characters as a kid."
Tenney is perhaps best known for his role as Agent Fritz Howard opposite Kyra SedgwicK on "The Closer." He has also appeared in "CSI," "The Division" and "Without a Trace.
