Dragon Ball fans were thrilled by the announcement of Dragon Ball Daima, and the series has exceeded even their high expectations. Set between Kid Buu’s defeat and the start of Dragon Ball Super, this original story follows the Z-Fighters after a rogue Dragon Ball wish transforms them into children, leading to an unexpected journey into the Demon Realm. Daima strikes the perfect balance between the lighthearted comedy of the original Dragon Ball and the intense action of Dragon Ball Z.
The anime series delivered playful adventures, entertaining characters, and humorous side-stories while also featuring some of the franchise’s best battles in years. With more hits than misses, Dragon Ball Daima proves to be a worthy addition to the franchise. Now that the series has reached its conclusion, certain episodes stand out as the best examples of what made Daima so special.

As São Paulo State and Brazil at large gears up its funding for film, TV, vid games and beyond, there is a distinct possibility that Brazil’s Congress will approve this year a global streamer investment quota for Brazilian films and series. If that happens, it could see R$700 million-r$800 million ($122 million-$140 million) being invested in independent Brazilian production, producer Fabiano Gullane (“Senna”) estimates.
Already Brazil is Latin America’s comeback story and its players, thanks to “I’m Still Here” and “Senna” walk the world stage. The following reveals spoilers for Star Trek: Section 31, now streaming on Paramount+.
Star Trek: Section 31 is basically a caper film in outer space, with a team assembled under Michelle Yeoh's former Mirror Universe Empress Philippa Georgiou to stop an apocalyptic device from falling into the wrong hands. The movie has great fun with the squad, constituting various little-seen species from the Star Trek franchise, as well as legacy characters like Rachel Garrett in their younger days. That includes a turncoat, working with the villains, and giving the protagonists a mystery to solve before they're betrayed.
In this case, it's literally the smallest member of the group: a sentient parasite named Fuzz controlling a robotic simulacrum of a Vulcan. He stands as one of the film's most original choices, which makes it a reasonably bold choice that he should prove a villain. It also allows actor Sven Ruygrok to continue in the role,...

The English dub of Dragon Ball Daima is now available on Crunchyroll. Fans hoping for newfound clarity regarding controversial retcons in the Japanese version of Daima will be disappointed to hear the English version continues the invalidation of Dragon Ball Super.
As of Jan. 10, 2025, the English dub of Dragon Ball Daima will premiere every Friday with one new episode per week. The first episode, "Conspiracy," sets up Goku’s latest adventure by having King Gomah of the Demon Realm use the Earth’s Dragon Balls to wish everyone involved with the Majin Buu incident back into children. Before the wish, Goku and friends celebrate Trunk’s ninth birthday and the restoration of Earth. The controversial moment involving the Supreme Kai and Kibito occurred in the Japanese broadcast version.

It only took thirteen weeks, but Dragon Ball Daima has finally premiered in English, and the dub is off to an admittedly solid start. I'm not a dub guy. I have a lot of nostalgia for Dragon Ball and Dbz's original Funimation cast as someone who grew up watching both anime every day after school on Toonami, but I almost exclusively watch Dragon Ball with subs these days. The English translations have a bad habit of changing the scripts, and the earlier dubs feature hit or miss performances, to say the least.
Credit where credit is due, however, Funimation's been pumping out some great dubs for the series ever since Dragon Ball Z Kai – which is far and away the studio's best effort as far as Dragon Ball is concerned. With time and the advantage of more faithful scripts, Funimaton's cast regulars have only gotten better over the years,...

A brand-new holiday has been invented in the English dub for Dragon Ball Daima. Episode 1, "Conspiracy," premiered on Crunchyroll on Jan. 10, 2025.
In the English dub of Daima Episode 1, the Z-warriors and friends are seen celebrating Trunk’s ninth birthday. After congratulating Trunks, the gang does a quick shout-out to the anniversary of Earth returning to existence after everything that happened with Kid Buu in Dragon Ball Z. While this isn’t too different from the Japanese version of the episode, the English dub has everyone declaring "Happy Return to Existence Day, Earth!" after wishing Trunks well.

It’s that time of year again. While some directors annually share their favorite films of the year, Steven Soderbergh lists everything he consumed, media-wise. For 2024––another year in which he not only premiered a new film, but shot another and is prepping another to begin production shortly––he still got plenty of watching in.
Along with catching up on 2024’s new releases, he took in plenty of classics, including Opening Night, Jaws, Casablanca, All About Eve, The Conversation, Alien, and nine viewings of various Star Wars films. Bill Skarsgård will star in the crime thriller Dead Man’s Wire, which leapfrogs director Gus Van Sant’s planned collaboration with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
Gus Van Sant hasn’t directed a film in several years now, with the American filmmaker most recently having made several episodes of Feud: Capote Vs The Swans for the small screens.
A few months ago, we heard that the director of My Own Private Idaho and Good Will Hunting would be reuniting with the stars of the latter film, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, to make Killing Gawker, an adaptation of Ryan Holiday’s book, Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, And The Anatomy of Intrigue.
That project will chart the real-life tale of how billionaire libertarian Peter Thiel used Hulk Hogan as his proxy to sue gossip website Gawker out of existence after it released a sex tape of the legendary wrestler.

The following contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima Episode 3, "Daima," now streaming on Crunchyroll and Hulu.Dragon Ball has steadily evolved in rewarding ways over the past four decades, yet Dragon Ball Daima is already delivering a breath of fresh air thats come along at the perfect time. Dragon Ball series are often guilty of delivering more of the same and relying upon gimmicks like time-skips to help advance story and character development. Dragon Ball Daima has proven to be a unique outlier thats brazenly nostalgic to the series past, but also willing to forge ahead into exciting territory that feels distinctly different. Dragon Ball Daima admittedly kicks off with a gimmick Goku and everyone else getting turned into children but these juvenile transformations feel secondary to the grander Demon Realm adventure that lies ahead.
Dragon Ball DAIMAs first two episodes effectively set the table and helped establish a baseline for the new series.

In Dragon Ball Daima, Goku and his friends face a new threat thanks to Gomah and the Demon Realm. Gomah uses the Earth Dragon Balls to turn the Z-Fighters into first-graders, so the Majin and his allies can have a chance against them if they ever fight. Daima Episode 2, "Glorio," shows that the Z-Fighters aren't the only ones who were transformed into kids. The wish affected the likes of Master Roshi and Puar, as well.
Fan-favorite Gohan, however, is strangely absent from all these events. During Trunks' birthday party, Goku claims that Gohan is studying. Still, even when the characters turn into kids, there's no mention of contacting Gohan or even a glimpse into what Gohan is experiencing and whether the wish affected him at all. This lack of Gohan has left fans wondering when the famous half-Saiyan will appear.

Spain’s Zeta Studios, the company behind Netflix hit “Elite,” has partnered with leading Brazilian indie Conspiração to create “Bajo Presión,” a Spanish remake of the hit Brazilian TV medical drama, “Sob Pressão”(“Under Pressure”).
Set in the emergency room of a public hospital, Brazil’s “Under Pressure” hit a sweet spot, mixing large suspense – about the fate of patients, and the series’ long term relationship – and a bracing social realism. The story revolves around a surgeon (Julio Andrade) and doctor (Marjorie Estiano) battling not only for their relationship but also against the severe lack of hospital resources. Following the adventures of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the USS Enterprise-d, Tng is not known for being particularly dark or gory. Captain Picard usually attacks problems with words and diplomacy rather than phaser fire, but he takes a different approach in Tng season 1, episode 25, "Conspiracy".
"Conspiracy" almost didn't air at all because even some of the producers worried it was too much. However, in the UK, the network hosting Star Trek: Tng was much stricter when it came to gore and violence. At that time, it was the BBC, the UK's taxpayer-funded network, that had broadcasting rights for Star Trek: The Next Generation. There was one scene in "Conspiracy" that the BBC took incredible chagrin with, and so in the UK it became a...

In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Conspiracy", the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-d find that a mysterious species of intelligent brain parasites has infiltrated Starfleet. The parasites look like pink-shelled stag beetles and enter a host's body through their mouth. Once inside, the parasites completely take over their host's brains, using their bodies like puppets. Multiple higher-ups at Starfleet Command had been taken over, with the queen parasite inhabiting the body of a character named Lieutenant Commander Remmick (Robert Schenkkan).
Luckily, Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Commander Riker (Jonathan Frakes) figure out the conspiracy and use clever disguises to sneak into a secret dinner party attended only by infected officers. Picard and Riker get the drop on everyone, thank goodness, and begin firing their phasers. Everyone is knocked out and the parasites exit their bodies.

Despite directing the beloved Hangover comedy trilogy, and re-inventing DC Comics' most-beloved villain in Joker, even director Todd Phillips occasionally has trouble getting projects off the ground in Hollywood. Phillips' Hulk Hogan biopic, starring Chris Hemsworth as the iconic wrestler, was first announced in 2020, and was being produced by Netflix. Following the announcement, the hype was at an all-time high as Chris Hemsworth kept fans updated on his workouts to portray the gigantic wrestling superstar. The project saw numerous delays due to the Covid pandemic and the joint WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but fans held out hope for the movie.
However, in an interview with Variety to promote the upcoming Joker: Folie Deux, Todd Phillips confirmed that his Hulk Hogan film is officially down for the count. In June of this year, Chris Hemsworth said that the project was still going ahead, although there would be a long wait before audiences see it.

The Hulk Hogan biopic, starring Chris Hemsworth as the titular WWE superstar, has been scrapped. The disappointing news is not too surprising, since the project had been stuck in development hell for months.
Filmmaker Todd Phillips confirmed that the Hemsworth-led Hogan biopic would not be moving forward while promoting his highly anticipated new project Joker: Folie a Deux. "I love what we were trying to do, but that's not going to come together for me," the director said when asked to provide an update about the film (via ComicBook).

To paraphrase legendary wrestling star Hulk Hogan, whatcha gonna do when Ben Affleck and Matt Damon make a movie about you? Apparently youre going to sit back and watch, as the Good Will Hunting duo will be producing a film based on the Hulksters' infamous legal battle with Gawker, which saw the now-defunct website fork over $31 million to the former WWE/WCW icon after he sued them following the release of a sex tape in 2012.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck and Damons production company, Artists Equity, have acquired the script for Killing Gawker which was penned by Academy Award-winner Charles Randolph. Adapted from the non-fiction book Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue by Ryan Holiday, the film will trace the events surrounding the infamous lawsuit which had all the makings of a juicy Hollywood scandal. Gus Van Sant adds to an increasingly interesting ensemble for Killing Gawker, that already features Matt Damon, plus Ben Affleck as Hulk Hogan.
Just yesterday we covered the story that Artists Equity, the production company run by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, would be adapting the non-fiction book titled Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue. Ryan Holiday penned the 2018 book which covers the legal drama that ensued when Hulk Hogan, the iconic former wrestler, sued the gossip website Gawker for publishing a sex tape of him that had come into Gawker’s possession.
The unfolding drama put Gawker out of business but also revealed some conspiratorial plotting behind the scenes. During his wrestling days, Hogan was alleged to be something of an arch-manipulator, using any means to keep himself top of the pile and Holiday’s book suggests that in the Gawker case, there...

Matt Damon is set to star opposite Ben Affleck in Killing Gawker, a drama focused on Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit against the Gawker website.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are, of course, longtime friends and collaborators. They’ve shared the screen many times and also co-own Artists Equity, a production company that was founded upon the values of fairly ensuring payment with cast and crew both above and under the line.
The company’s first film was Air, the 2023 film that dramatised the true story of Nike becoming a major player in the world of sports shoes thanks to the signing of basketball legend Michael Jordan. Air sold to Amazon for a hefty sum and in the past 12 months, Artists Equity’s slate has continued to fill out with the likes of The Instigators, a Doug Liman film, and The Accountant 2, which will see Affleck return in a sequel to the 2016 action thriller.

Back in 2012, Gawker published a leaked sex tape of former WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan that led to a lawsuit backed by PayPal co-founder and conservative firebrand Peter Thiel. The $115 million verdict ultimately led to the demise of Gawker, and there’s been a screenplay about the saga making the rounds in Hollywood for a while. According to a new report from PWInsider, the movie is now “expected to move forward in the days ahead” with the backing of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the latter of whom is eyeing the role of Hogan.
If the rumors bear out, Damon and Affleck would pick up the project, titled Killing Gawker, through their Artist Equity production company with a reported January 2025 launch in mind. Damon would also star in the film as Thiel. Update: Gus Van Sant — who previously directed Damon and Affleck in Good Will Hunting — is in talks to helm Killing Gawker.

The Academy’s tendency to award trophies to Holocaust movies has long been whispered about — and even occasionally joked about by cheeky comedians.
In 2009, shortly after Kate Winslet won a Golden Globe for her performance as a former Auschwitz guard in “The Reader,” presenter Ricky Gervais pointed to her in the audience and deadpanned, “I told ya, do a Holocaust movie; the awards come.”
Winslet, who would go on to receive an Academy Award for her part in Stephen Daldry’s film, had several years earlier appeared on Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s HBO comedy “Extras” as an actor who stars in a film about the Holocaust in the hopes that it will earn her an Oscar.
The night of the Globes, Winslet laughed at Gervais’ ribbing, as did many in the crowd. It was a much a jab at the industry as much as it was at her.

The new Showtime limited series “Fellow Travelers” received rave reviews and is now being embraced by awards groups, with three bids at the Critics Choice Awards and a pair of nominations at the Golden Globes. Horror fans will recognize Adam Marcus as the director of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday and the co-writer of Texas Chainsaw 3D, two divisive but oft-discussed entries in their respective franchises. He recently returned to the genre to helm Secret Santa, a holiday horror-comedy streaming exclusively on Screambox.
The final installment in our three-part interview with the raconteur focuses on Secret Santa and the trials and tribulations of independent filmmaking. He also teases several projects that are in the works, including a monstrous collaboration with special effects legend Robert Kurtzman.
Secret Santa was born out of Marcus and his writing partner/wife Debra Sullivan’s frustration with the lack of creative control they had on their two previously produced screenplays, 2013’s Texas Chainsaw and 2015’s Momentum. “Artistically, it just started to feel really hollow. I was like, ‘Did I get into this to make money, or did I...

Star Trek: Lower Decks has made some surprisingly detailed forays into canon species like the Orions and Ferengi. The Bolians have been largely background characters with no single figure prominently in the Star Trek franchise despite their long history with the Federation. Bolians are bald, blue members of the Federation that could benefit from being further fleshed out in Lower Decks.
Star Trek: Lower Decks is dedicated to exploring the forgotten aspects of the Star Trek universe, and that isn't limited to just characters. Entire species have received surprisingly rich development in the animated series' hands, most notably the Orions, whose onscreen appearances were strictly limited before D'Vana Tendi arrived in the season premiere. Other races have received similar treatment, such as the Andorians and Tamarians who each have notable representatives onboard the U.S.S. Cerritos. The show's status as canon has allowed it to significantly flesh out their...

Nick Oliveri has announced two career-spanning compilations, N.O. Hits at All Vols. 8 and 9, continuing his running series of the same name. Both arrive January 19th via Heavy Psych Sounds.
As a teaser, Oliveri offered up the Vol. 8 opener “Chains and Shackles” — the first official release of a 2010 collaborative track with Slash.
The song originates as an outtake from Slash’s 2010 self-titled album and is finally receiving a proper release on Oliveri’s comp. His unhinged snarls and Slash’s frenetic riffing call back to the stoner-punk that the former contributed to the early Queens of the Stone Age albums. The track was even produced by Eric Valentine, so that sound is definitely there.
“Slash wrote the music and Eric Valentine and myself wrote the words,” said Oliveri in a press release. “I feel the song is hard-driving and it has the right amount of uncensored dirt, filth, sex,...

This Star Trek: Lower Decks article contains spoilers.
Okay, leaving aside the super-racist episode “Code of Honor,” we’re all agreed that “Shades of Gray” is the low point of Star Trek: The Next Generation, right? Sure, there’s still “Masks” and “Rascals” and I get why people don’t like “Sub Rosa” (I said what I said), but “Shades of Gray” is hardly an episode. Riker gets an alien infection, Dr. Pulaski sticks a doo-hickey on his head, and then he… rewatches highlights from the first two seasons. And that’s because “Shades of Gray” is that most dreaded product of 1980s syndicated television: a clip show.
Fortunately, clip shows have become a relic of the pop culture past rendered unnecessary in our always-on digital age. But Lower Decks never forgets, so it’s no surprise that the series would do its own version of a clip show. And...
