Black Brazil
guisreis23 December 2020
A documentary on black culture, heritage and social problem in Brazil. There are many important informations and elements, like the notes by Gabriel Joaquim dos Santos and his House of the Flower, the testimonies by Benedita da Silva in the beginning of her electoral career, the history of African-Brazilian religions and samba, the answers of people living on the streets. However, the film ressembles a collage, lacking solid bounders. That happens particularly when it comes to the narrative, which changes subsequently without good reasons and outcomes. The colinist-like ethos in the interviews and explanations seemed improper to me. Music in the last part was annoying. I do not know if it would be possible (if enough records exist), but I would also prefer to listen more Gabriel Santos himself than the artificial narration by Milton Gonçalves supposedly imitating him.
