Last summer, Stereotypical Barbie admitted on the dance floor that sometimes she thinks about dying, and in part because of her brutal, relatable honesty, "Barbie" was the biggest hit of the year. Now, Bob the Builder is apparently set to endure the toy company Mattel's next on-screen existential crisis, as star Anthony Ramos says that the movie will follow a version of Bob who has "kind of lost his sense of what it is, to build," per Total Film.
"In the Heights" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" star Ramos spoke to Total Film for the magazine's latest print issue, in which he tried to explain the weirdly emotionally complex plot of the upcoming "Bob the Builder" film. The movie was previously described by The Guardian as being about Bob traveling to Puerto Rico, where he "takes on issues affecting the island and digs deeper into what it means to build.

ITV has announced the planned closure of its children’s channel Citv.
The channel was launched in 2006 after the success of the Children’s ITV programming block, which launched on ITV in 1983 to provide dedicated late-afternoon programming for children aged between five and 13.
On Friday (10 March), the broadcaster announced that the Citv channel is set to close in the early autumn, after the launch of a new “dedicated destination for kids” on its streaming service Itvx.
The new service, Itvx Kids, is due to launch in July 2023. It will be rolled out during the UK school summer holiday period, with a range of titles aimed at both school-age and preschool children.

You can just tell that Oprah Winfrey’s CBS interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has Buckingham Palace shook. On Monday, Stephen Colbert’s cold open saw Queen Elizabeth II attempt to enlist the British “Bob the Builder” gang to “fix” the British monarchy.

Bob punted that loaded question to his team of heavy-load machinery. No one seemed confident in tackling the enormous task.

Even if parents are going batty trying to keep their little ones entertained while cooped up at home during this pandemic, they’re not necessarily plunking the kids in front of the TV — not linear TV at least. Meanwhile, certain streaming services are seeing a lift in interest, underscoring the next generation’s shift in television viewing habits.
For the week of March 23-29, viewership of ad-supported kids’ linear cable networks — a group that includes Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney Xd and others — slid 3% from the comparable week in March 2019, according to Bernstein research analysts, citing Nielsen figures. And that year-over-year decline actually marks a major improvement: prior to shelter-in-place measures being implemented, weekly viewership of those channels among 2- to 11-year-olds had been plummeting an average of 25% since the start of 2020.

NBCUniversal is rearranging the toys it uses in its kids-programming playground.
The company’s Universal Kids will place a bigger bet on its ties to DreamWorks Animation, which NBCU bought in August of 2016 for approximately $3.8 billion. The network will stop developing original shows that are not based on DreamWorks properties, according to a person familiar with the matter, though it will continue to acquire series made by third-party producers.
The move takes place amid declining ratings and an executive restructure that has the network’s operations reporting directly to Frances Berwick, the executive who oversees NBCU’s lifestyle-based cable networks, including Bravo and Oxygen. Deirdre Brennan, the former general manager of Universal Kids, left in February. Universal Kids has been the primary vehicle NBCU hoped to ride to get into the multi-billion dollar market for kids entertainment, jockeying with rivals like Walt Disney, Viacom’s Nickelodeon and WarnerMedia’s Cartoon Network.

Bob the Builder is back and you can see the new-look character in action below.
A new trailer for the revamped series has been unveiled ahead of its premiere on Channel 5.
The new-look Bob was unveiled towards the end of 2014, and fans of the show - as well as original star Neil Morrissey - voiced their disapproval on Twitter.
The handyman and his friends, who made their first appearance on CBeebies, have been given a makeover and 'digified', losing their stop-motion look.
Channel 5 has signed an agreement with producer Hit Entertainment for 104 new 11-minute episodes, with Harry Potter star Lee Ingleby replacing Morrissey as Bob.
Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt and The Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison are also lending their talents to the show.
Bob the Builder will return to screens later this year. Can he still fix it? We'll have to wait and see.

The first image of the brand new Tracy brothers from the upcoming Thunderbirds reboot was released earlier today (January 15).
As it turned out, the reaction was less than Fab, with many fans of the original series sharing their views on Twitter. Boyband comparisons and terrifying death stares are among the most noted complaints so far.
Here are just a few reactions from Gerry Anderson fans old and new:
It's called Thunderbirds, not Thunderblokes
— Alec Meer HD (@bonzrat) January 15, 2015
So, the new #Thunderbirds are basically One Direction as Power Rangers? http://t.co/z9MjEBqfFe pic.twitter.com/ihIxvXBbqX
— Christopher Allen (@chris_allen) January 15, 2015
And I thought that Busted song was the biggest insult to Thunderbirds. These new Tracy Brothers make me want to vomit.
— Daniel Sperling (@dan_sperling) January 15, 2015
As creepy as they are, the new CGI Thunderbirds somehow look even more human than most of the Tory frontbench. pic.

There are many upsides and downsides to the growing world of streaming movies, but easily one of the most frustrating is the lack of permanence that exists in the system. There are thousands of great movies available to watch, but because of the way contracts are structured they can be online one day and gone the next. Case in point: Netflix is losing a ton of great titles as soon as the calendar switches from October to November. The blog Now Streaming has compiled a list of all movies and shows that will be getting removed from Netflix on November 1st. A good number of the titles are things that adult cinefiles probably don't care too much about, such as various Barney, Bob The Builder, and Thomas & Friends movies, but there are some bonafide classics and Oscar winners that will no longer be available to subscribers. The idea of trying...

The reboot of Bob the Builder, with a new look and voice, has got a mixed response from fans online, and the former voice of Bob, Neil Morrissey, appears to agree with the critics.
Mattel has replaced Morrissey with Harry Potter actor Lee Ingleby for the new series, which also transports the popular children's character from Fixham to Spring City.
Retweeting two critics of the changes, Morrissey appeared to back the annoyed fans who believe that they shouldn't mess with the original.

The Italian American One Voice Coalition has accused the Sundance film festival hit of promoting "racist" stereotypes. Levitt, who is Jewish, is told to stop "stereotyping and denigrating" both Italian Americans and Jews via the movie, which he wrote and directed as well as starring in.
"Here we go again with the same shop-worn, racist stereotypes of Italian Americans in movies," said the organisation's founder, Dr Emanuele "Manny" Alfano. "It never ends. Levitt, himself the son of proud parents who once founded the Jewish Progressive Alliance and fought for social justice causes,...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon traffics in the outlandish, hurtful stereotype that people who enjoy porn all like to masturbate (Perhaps some of them just enjoy the art of filmmaking!), but it’s received the most ire from Italian-American advocacy groups who have branded the film “racist.” The comedy is blasted in an emailed press release from the Italian American One Voice Coalition, which has previously complained about the portrayals of Italian Americans in everything from The Sopranos to Bob The Builder to, simply, “Robert De Niro.” In the statement, the group’s founder, Dr. Manny Alfano, says Don Jon ...

The porn industry is fascinating. Not just because of the array of erotica on show but also the machinations of the porn industry itself. I have read widely on the subject (particularly the Cinema Sewer books by Robin Bougie – thank you Robin for sharing the most delectable cinema morsels on the planet) and I feel it has been a worthwhile and enjoyable feat. Films about the porn industry are rare but porn films are a dime a dozen.
I couldn’t find 10 films that deal directly with the porn industry without going into hardcore territory. So instead I have had to present 10 films that feature pornography as a main theme. They are all fascinating in their representation of their subject. Some take a very cynical approach to pornography – that it ruins and corrupts its performers, and some take a very lighthearted approach – porn connects the performers in love.
Whatever the approach to porn,...

Two things are certain: Everything is scarier when you are a kid, and kids make everything scarier. With these two facts in mind, I realized I have a couple of stories that you just might find enjoyable, and I want to share one with you in this Doctor Gash Tip of the Scalpel to Childish Horrors, Part 1.
This is a story that will really hit home for those of you who have children and have seen The Exorcist (and I’m sure many of you thought twice about the former after doing the latter). I certainly welcome the rest of you Dreadies to read and hopefully enjoy this story, but I think it'll really hit home with you parental veterans of The Exorcist.

Seth MacFarlane without question is the current behemoth of animated comedy TV, and recently film, with his debut effort, Ted. Seth has been churning out his own brand of animated TV comedy since 1999 with Family Guy, currently in its 11th season, by no means an easy feat in current TV schedules. The fact that it has been going on for so long, with a few years off air from 2002 – 2005, is a testament to the rabid fan base of the show. However it certainly isn’t a testament to the quality of the comedy, or it’s much loved creator.
I will admit that I was obsessed with Family Guy over ten years ago, and constantly berated my friends that it has replaced The Simpsons as the best cartoon comedy on TV. I imported posters from America and personally ordered the DVD into stock at my local entertainment retailer who had never heard of the show.
