Featured review
Another impressive documentary on the assassination of president John F. Kennedy and the countless conspiracy theories related to the tragic event
of November 22, 1963. Though Oliver Stone's epic was the talk of the town between 1991 and 1992, this very project does not mention it at all, unlike a
similar themed released around the same time; yet it does follow the ideas and theories brought on that amazing movie with the leads tracking down the
American establishment of power, FBI, CIA, mafia, Cuba, Oswald, Ruby, Communists, the military complex and the involvement each part could have or had
from the background, motivation and cover-up.
Despite the release of secret documents related with the case (Trump administration back in 2017, way before the scheduled year of 2029) and that the official case against Lee Harvey Oswald was mantained without any significant difference related with a conspiracy, the case doesn't feel closed or right in our minds. And it's documentaries like this that still makes us wonder since they present solid cases and weird coincidences that make everything believable rather than the lone shooter scenario that authorities make us believe, and even on later assassination attempts on other politicians around the world.
This piece follows historians, reporters who covered the case, personalities close to some of the events like medical examiners, who all contest many issues presented as facts, from obvious cover-ups to the magic bullet theory. It's a great complement of facts established on other projects, but this one takes a great time presenting a strong and compelling background of potential groups that could be behind Kennedy's murder, a solid background over his politics and reasoning for such a persecution against him, and one the leads that wasn't much explored in Stone's film was the one concerning teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa and the mafia connection; and also distancing itself from the movie (and I wonder why) is that the whole case against businessman/ex-CIA Clay Shaw isn't brought up at all - Jim Garrison appears briefly on an archive image.
For those who want a patient presentation of elements, facts and countless archive footage, this one is a must-see to gather up some missing pieces or to enlighten the few bits from the 1991 movie that you might have missed, or haven't thought much about it. It doesn't offer conclusions, but it offers a view of what could have happened and who could be behind it, you can form your own view. Obvious that they won't comprehend countless of other thinigs and the enormous number of people related with the case - I don't think it'll ever be possible, and the closest I ever got to it was Philip Shenon's 2013 book - but they provide a comprehensible material that it's easy to follow, thrilling and highly informative. 9/10.
