This is an entertaining crime-drama, full of action and twists and turns, leading to a happy ending for the survivors of a wild night.
This film started life as a TV film, but it has a good script and a few of Australia's top actors. Unfortunately the YouTube version of this film was a little gritty, being taped from TV onto VHS before converted to digital format.
However it is nicely filmed, and Judy Morris gives a wonderful performance as the slightly unbalanced babysitter whose plan to steal the baby for herself is stymied by a train delay and two would-be kidnappers.
Carmen Duncan is also charming as the baby's upper-class mum determined to have a night out at the ballet, unaware of her baby's adventurous night. Gerard Kennedy plays a psychotic prison-escapee who bullies a young acquaintance, played by Vince Martin, into a daring kidnap plot. Veteran actresses Muriel Hopkins and Queenie Ashton also take part, adding their expertise to the action.
The story takes place in only three locations in central Sydney: the Boulevarde Hotel in William St, Central Station and the Sydney Opera House. It's a surprisingly good little film.
